Re: Slow start up?
This may be as good as it gets on that hardware.Try running updates again.Sometimes that helps. It is a good idea to update any time you add or remove a program.

Re: Panasonic TV and Mint 18.1
I ran into something like that a while ago.Turned out I had to connect both monitors/TVs before booting the computer.

My hardware is very similar to yours.Youtube works fine on Google chrome,if you can't get it working on Firefox.

Re: G'day from Australia!
Welcome to mint.I am in the same boat as you,but a year further along.I ditched Windows about 14 months ago.I found that the biggest obstacle to using Linux full time was figuring out which programs will do what I want with a minimum of head scratching(already bald).Luckily, trial and error in Linux ...

Re: OS freezes when i close my laptop
Is it a spinning drive or SSD?SSD's in general have issues with hibernate and sometimes with sleep.I don't use either on my laptop with an SSD as boot drive.

Variety gets my vote too.I have tried several others, and they all seemed to have issues,at least on my hardware.I do notice variety causes a very short pause on my dual core laptop every time it changes. It doesn't seem to do any harm,so I live with it.

Re: installation problem
I am also on an HP laptop.I found that it seems to depend on which program you use to create your installer.Mine would not work on an installer I had already use successfully on other hardware, but when I put the same image on a different flash drive with a different program,it worked.Don't know why,...

Re: My Latest Rescue
Try your local recycle places. In my city, there is a volunteer organisation that takes donations and fixes them up and gives them to schools.I notice they also are selling some for a small cash donation.Since they are only open short hours, I will have to skip out of work for a while to check them o...

Bluetooth recognises device but won't turn on
On my HP Elitebook 6930p with combo WiFi and bluetooth card,WiFi works, but bluetooth doesn't.I have been using this laptop for 2 or 3 years, with linux and no dual boot about 8 months.I never tried the bluetooth til I got a new gadget today,so I don' t know if it ever worked, but the WiFi on the same ...

Re: What are the software do you add after install?
Just read Majpooper's comment with interest. What really caught my eye was deleting the suspend button.Since I run SSD's for boot drives, that makes me wonder if I can get rid of hibernate and sleep buttons, since these functions are a no-no with SSD's.Can this be done?

Re: Hard Drive/Mount Question......Can someone please verify this is normal?
I guess I'm not the only ex-windows confused person. It occurs to me that part of the confusion is because Mint looks a lot like windows,it is not. That sounds like good advice to forget Windows terminology.Keep in mind that doing a clean re-install is a piece of cake, and free,on Linux. You won't learn...

Re: Dual monitor woes in mint mate
Yes,trytip.I think it is not a malfunction;that's just the way the utility was written. As I think I mentioned before, the dual monitor utility worked perfectly on this same hardware with Ubuntu 16.04.Also,I have had this same issue on my desktop, which is completely different hardware, and also works f...
