Re: [Solved] USB stick always reads as UEFI mode

Hi I have a similar problem. I am trying to re-install Cinnamon 19.3, and my USB does the same thing - persists in EFI. I copied the iso file to disc, deleted the EFI directory tree with the archive manages, and installed the result to my USB stick as a bootable image. But the UBS stick with this on...

Re: Mint 19.3 language settings corrupt

Possibly solved. I copied the locales directory from /usr/share/i18n on my laptop, and ran update. This got me my language settings back, except for the (top) Language box. I was able to set that to en_US, and got my terminal back. I don't see why my en_GB files had vanished from the locales directo...

Mint 19.3 language settings corrupt

I noticed a problem with my language settings and went to Preferences->Languages. The display is corrupt, and I can do nothing with it. Also, when I try to run a Terminal window, the system log reports Jan 26 14:41:12 LM-desktop org.gnome.Terminal[4297]: Locale not supported. I rolled back several d...

Re: Mint 19.2/3 rtl8188fu driver problem

I cannot find a control for secure boot in the BIOS: the board is a Gigabyte H61M-S1, and does not appear to have the control. modinfo:- filename: /lib/modules/5.3.0-26-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko version: v5.3.9_28540.20180627 author: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. description: Realt...

Re: Mint 19.2/3 rtl8188fu driver problem

Firstly, I have got a new WiFi USB adaptor - Tp-link TL-WN725N - and built a driver for that. And so - roger@LM-desktop ~ $ journalctl -b -k --no-page -l | grep 8188 Jan 25 08:53:47 LM-desktop kernel: 8188eu: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel. Re: Mint 19.2/3 rtl8188fu driver problem

There is nothing obvious:-

roger@LM-desktop ~ $ sudo modprobe rtl8188fu
[sudo] password for roger:
roger@LM-desktop ~ $

Where should I be looking?

Mint 19.2/3 rtl8188fu driver problem

I recently bought a WiFi USB dongle. The device identifies as ID 0bda:f179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. I believe the correct driver for this is rtl8188fu, but am open to correction. I installed the driver according to https://github.com/corneal64/Realtek-USB-Wireless-Adapter-Drivers When I enable th...

Re: Home networking wifi mint 19.2/3

SOLVED
I followed the guidance in https://askubuntu.com/questions/171914/ ... d-wireless, and reversed the order of eth/wifi in /etc/resolvconf/interface-order.

Re: Home networking wifi mint 19.2/3

SOLVED
I shall post the configuration tomorrow when I have worked out what I have done. Critical, I believe, is interchanging the order of eth and wlan entries in /etc/resolvconf/interface-order on the gateway machine.

Linux Mint 19 upgrade stuck half way

I have an HP laptop. It had Mint 18.3 installed, and I had installed Mint 19 in a spare partition for testing. I tried mintupgrade today, after making a snapshot with Timeshift. The upgrade got stuck on android-tools-adbd:amd64, and would not progress. I ran apt autoremove manually, and tried again,...
