Re: World Timeclock

Thanks very much for your time and effort phd21, it’s appreciated.

It looks like there are some very good options that are internet dependant, to I’ll just work my way through and pick one I like.

Thanks again everyone,

Bob

Re: World Timeclock

Thanks very much guys. Well it looked like I was spoilt with choice, but they all seem to rely on the Internet. Anyway, here is a screenshot of what I am looking for in Application format. Time Zone Map2.jpg I imagine the old version I’m talking about ran a couple of Databases with Place Names and T...

World Timeclock

Can anyone suggest a World Time Clock Application that will work with Mint – 18.0 – Cinnamon? I’m looking for one with a World Map that works without an Internet Connection. I had one years ago when the family were traveling, but it was a Windows one running on ME as I recall, and I’ve no idea where...

SD Card recovery Program.

Is there a data recovery program for recovering files from SD Cards and or Thumb drives that have been deleted or corrupted? A mate of mine seem to have trouble with his camera on occasions and looses pictures which I have always been able to recover using a program on my old XP Computer. So, I thou...

Re: Internal Search Engine

Thanks for that slipstick. No sign of it yet but it is a jpg file and whilst it should be in the Pictures Folder I think it probably got inadvertently saved in another Folder. In fact, it may even be within a Folder within a Folder within a folder so it could be a real hunt. I’ll have a little play ...

[SOLVED] Internal Search Engine

Can anyone recommend a Search Engine that will find lost files on the HDD. Ok, I have a good idea as to what the file name is, and I’m sure it will be there somewhere, but misplaced. The search on the Menu finds Applications OK but not much good at individual files. Mint / ver 18.0 / Cinnamon Thanks...

Re: Windows Programme problem

The problem program, PicPick, is just a simple but useful photo editing and screen capture App. As an aside, can anyone recommend a good Mint screen capture program? What I like about PicPick is its ability to allow you to save regional parts of the screen and insert lines, arrows, circles, text et...

Re: Windows Programme problem

The Update Manager includes a module for manually installing kernels - open Update Manager > View > Kernels. If adding a kernel from a lower series (i.e. 4.4) from the one currently installed and active (i.e. 4.8) you'll need to manually select the lower series kernel at boot time via the Grub Menu...

Re: Windows Programme problem

Thanks for your input smurphos. You may be onto something because here is what I’ve got. VER:18.0 has two kernel’s. 4.4.0-21-generic & 4.4.0-36-generic VER:18.1 has one kernel. 4.4.0-21-generic VER:18.2 has one kernel. 4.8.0-53-generic So it seams the 4.4 kernels work fine, but the 4.8 doesn’t, whic...

Re: Windows Programme problem

Just as a matter of interest I added PlayOnLinux to the troublesome machine but still doesn't work.

How do I go about installing an older version of Mint, although the other two computers working fine would indicate to me this may be a Mint 18.2 problem?

Character building stuff. :D

Re: Windows Programme problem

Thanks Guys. Here is a screenshot of all the associated installations of Wine including version numbers. Wine3.jpg They are exactly the same on all three Computers. I suggest that Update Manager is responsible for that. Ok, the message received when I try to start PicPick on the faulty computer is t...

Re: Windows Programme problem

Ah yes  sorry.

It looks like it installs ok but produces major error message when you try and run it.

No particular reason to run 18.2, just a learner trying to get familar with the different versions.

The Windows programme is called Picpick, a good little photo editing programme.

Windows Programme problem

I have a Windows programme here that runs fine on Mint ver. 18 & 18.1 but not 18.2.

The Wine & Winetricks version is the same (latest) on all three computers.

Anyone throw any light on the problem?

Thanks

Mint Password Interrogation

I’ve just installed Mint 18.2 Cinnamon on a 87yo’s HP ProBook 6550b Laptop and having to repeatedly enter his password is driving him mad.

So how can I reduce the password interrogation to say Logon and Synaptic actions?

There is absolutely nothing of value on the computer.

Thanks

Re: Skype 8.13.0.2

Actually Sue I found the old download in my Download Folder amongst all sorts of things.

However, if you can find Ver 8.11.0.4 in that link you provided you should be in business.

One other thing is it will want to update, so don't let it, or you'll be back to square one.

Good Luck

Re: Skype 8.13.0.2

Well according to Microsoft they don't support Mint anymore.

See Link in post #4

For what it's worth I managed to get the earlier version of Skype (Ver. 8.11.0.4) to work after re-installation and considerable trouble. :(

Re: Skype 8.13.0.2

I managed to recover the situation by rolling back to my last Restore Point using "Systemback" and am now running ver. 8.11.0.4 again. Seems one can't even run Linux without Microsoft stuffing something. And just a heads up the Mint updater still wants to reinstall the latest version, so unti...
