Re: What software to use for remote connection?

Further to my previous posts my position is I still have a HP Laptop Model 14-d001AU that refuses to install TeamViewer, or AnyDesk or NoMachine. The OS is Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. Common to all attempted installations is the following message. Teamviewer Error.png The message can’t be closed and a compl...

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

I suggest setting the Update Manager to full Automatic, behind the scenes. I should have mentioned that once I managed to complete the initial installation all later updates were handled by Synaptic Packet Manager and Update Manager. Unfortunately Teamviewer doesn’t appear in Synaptic until the fir...

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

AZgl1500, you have no idea the comfort I draw from there being someone else tearing there hair out trying to get someone to listen, whilst trying to work remotely. :D The eldest of my problems is 90, the next 81, then myself at 77 and “Junior” at 74. The 90yo was a Telephone Technician who is Medica...

Re: Linux drivers for Brother printer cannot "scan to PC"

I had problems awfully similar with a Canon Scanner and the end fix was a programme called Sane-Airscan.

Just a thought in passing.

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

Sorry about the delay getting back with a progress report but I’ve spent hours getting nowhere however have now managed to get TeamViewer working on two computers but what and effort when you aren’t familiar with Linux. Anyway, I thought I’d concentrate on my elderly Desktop – Gigabyte MB – AMD Dual...

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

Very Interesting. I used Teamviewer with Mint 18.0 cinnamon years ago and it worked fine. However, an update put paid to that and it never worked again. I’ve since updated to Mint 19.3 cinnamon (same as you) and still no luck. Could you tell me the version of Teamviewer you are using and I’ll try ag...

Re: Canon Printer - Mint 19.3

Progress here, I have now got the printer working on wireless. :D Fix was I had to set the printer hunting and then push the WPS button on the Router and bingo. Why Canon couldn’t have included that in the instructions eludes me. However, that still leaves me with no Scan facility and the onl...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

Thanks again guys for your time and trouble. To update matters I have just had the Applets/Icons do the disappearing act again so I thought I’d check if anything didn’t work. Well I could never test everything, but I can confirm that all the icons/buttons on the bottom Panel work as they should alon...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

I understand we want a solution to this problem, but in the meantime lets see if we can make restarting easier. Next time you need to reboot, try this instead: Ctrl-Alt-Esc If that doesn't work try this in a terminal: cinnamon --replace & If that doesn't work try: Ctrl-Alt-Backspace If that doe...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

Thanks guy’s I’ll report back. Given the nature of the beast it might be a couple of days before it does it again, on the other hand it might be a couple of minutes. One thing that strikes me as queer is the Panel remains, and still works fine, and the desktop retains its Mint logo and background co...

Re: Canon Printer - Mint 19.3

Don't know if this is any help or not, but I've found a program that works fine for scanning via USB Cable called VueScan. Only problem is the trial version has a Watermark right across the scan and it costs an arm and a leg to have the watermark removed. Anybody use this program or know anything ab...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

@Bob M : are you by chance using multiple monitors on that machine? Mint 19.2 Cinnamon here. Losing some of the desktop icons happens to me too but only after connecting and enabling a secondary monitor to this notebook. Used to happen when closing and reopening the lid, which automatically transfe...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

To go back to a previous kernel, you choose it from GRUB during boot. You may need to hold SHIFT during boot to make sure the machine boots into GRUB. It should show you your available kernel options. Once the machine is fully up and running, you open the Update Manager, go to View => Linux Kernels...

Re: Missing Applets/Icons.

Thanks for clarifying that Moem, I'd been scratching my head on that one.

Just as a matter of interest, how do I roll back the Kernel should I wish to?

Thanks

Bob
