Re: Multiple Mint Distro’s on single USB Flashdrive.

Thanks for that all41.

I'll take this further tomorrow but one other question before I turn in for the night.

Does multysystem unpack the iso container, or does that have to be done separately somehow?

Thanks

Re: Multiple Mint Distro’s on single USB Flashdrive.

Now we're talking. Multisystem it is. :D

Can you now recommend a trustworthy repository to download from?

I've checked Synaptic Packet Manager but can't see it there.

Thanks.

Re: Multiple Mint Distro’s on single USB Flashdrive.

No luck there, most of the Posts were years old and refereed to "Hard Drives" as opposed to "Thumb Drives".

Quite odd because my own search before posting didn't produce anything either. :?:

Multiple Mint Distro’s on single USB Flashdrive.

A simple one for most of you. What I want to do is put a number of Mint Cinnamon distros on the one Flash Drive. The reason for this is most laptops these days don’t have DVD/CD drives and if a friend wants ver 18.0 installed then I just pull out my USB Flashdrive and install it. If ver 18.3 pull ou...

Re: A manual fsck (Solved)

Thanks very much phd21 for taking the time to present such a comprehensive appraisal of the fsck function.

I’ve saved it, and bookmarked it for future reference, and I’m sure others will be equally appreciative of your efforts.

Thanks again,

Bob

Re: A manual fsck

Thanks Guys, problem fixed. :D You were all right, with slight variations, and the one I managed to find before the replies started coming in was was that of Sir Charles back in July. Worked a treat and everything is running again. A-bentofreire: I dumped Win10 a couple of years ago, installed Mint ...

A manual fsck (Solved)

A mates computer is bringing up a message upon boot (The root file system on /dev/sda1 requires a manual fsck.)

How does one do this given that Mint hasn't started so there is no Terminal even if I knew the commands. :D

Mint 18.3

Thanks.

Re: Mate to Cinnamon

Thanks Anoep and Moem. I’m glad we have established that he couldn’t have inadvertently changed from Cinnamon to Mate with some key combination. Your suggestion Moem that when Cinnamon is running in fall-back mode it looks like Mate is very likely the case. I will follow that line of thinking and re...

Mate to Cinnamon

This is a question on behalf of an 88 year old neighbor, so please forgive the lack of detail. It seems somehow his desktop has changed from Cinnamon to Mate and he would like Cinnamon back. Quite what he has done is anyone’s guess, and all he can tell me is his OS is Ubuntu of some sort. I live in ...

Thanks a million all41.

I’d never heard of “USB Image Writer” but it works a treat.

Definitely a “Game Changer” for me. :D

Re: [SOLVED] Mint 18.3 Disk.

Yes all41, given that less and less Laptops/Notebooks are being sold with CD/DVD drives, I’d better get used of booting from and working with Flash/Thumb drives. I’ve only ever used Flash/Thumb Drives for temporary storage, but I can see the rules have been changed courtesy of the Hardware Manufactu...

Re: Mint 18.3 Disk. (Solved)

Thanks Moem

I was thinking an iso file was already an image so I didn’t want to burn it again as such.

All good now, just have a couple of coasters. :D

[SOLVED] Mint 18.3 Disk.

I’m trying to download and burn an active Mint 18.3 64bit Cinnamon disk, but so far have only wound up with two disks with just the .iso files which won’t boot.

What am I doing wrong?

.iso files have always caused me trouble so I’m obviously screwing something up.

World Time & Date Map

A few years ago I downloaded a Map of The World (Mercator Projection) which when you placed your cursor over an area it gave you a time and date at that position. It didn’t require an Internet Connection, but it must have updated when one was available to keep track of Daylight Saving Time. Ok, it w...

Re: VLC - SWF

Thanks for your patience flemur, it was a struggle but I followed your instructions and now have Flash Movie Player and Flashplayer that both play SWF files fine. A couple of laughs along the way as I thought I’d better check the pdf license agreement in the flash-player_sa_linuxx86_64.tar.gz file a...

Re: VLC - SWF

Thanks for your input everyone. I think we can safely say that VLC is not reliable when it comes to dealing with SWF files. Flemur, I tried to download Adobe Flashplayer, but have run into all sorts of problems just trying to download it. I’m wondering if it is still available as one site threw up a...

Re: VLC - SWF

I’m not saying I know better than you at all. What I am saying is there are more than one swf files that won’t play on VLC, but will play on Flash Movie Player. I’ve uploaded this one to Dropbox as an example. https://www.dropbox.com/s/seknffsk1icndpd/Hervey%20Bay.swf?dl=0 It’s only shots around a b...

Re: VLC - SWF

Don't think it's file corruption because there are a number of them and they all play fine under Flash Movie Player which is actually a Windows program operating under wine.
