Re: Is Linux Mint ugly?
i think mint's appearance is fine, as is the operating system overall, and i didn't come to mint based on its appearance. the default themes, software, etc. are enough to get one started in a Linux OS. rather than change the themes, why not an easier tool to customize themes. i realize there are exi...

if you have the latest kernel and noticed you're having issues with suspend and resuming it could have something to do with your nvidia gpu driver: from my googling i found the following bug report from ubuntu where somebody else had the same issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+b...

Re: linux mint name change
Peppermint is partially derived from Linux Mint. It postdates Linux Mint by about 4 years, and from day 1 they borrowed a few Linux Mint developed applications such as the Software Manager I don't think Linux Mint should rename just because another later released distro uses a similar name and uses...

pi-hole is software you can use to filter out ads on your network. it can be run on a raspberry pi [raspian] or another operating system. i've not used it personally myself, but i might try it out on a spare computer. there's also smoothwall os. https://docs.pi-hole.net/main/prerequesites/#supported...

Re: linux mint name change
at this point the team should just keep it "linux mint" since it's had that name all this time and that's what everyone knows it by. if they were going to rebrand it, i would suggest naming it "cinnamon" or "cinnamon os" after the desktop environment and then just call ...

Re: installation/boot issues with 32bit Mate 19.2
i remember in the days of windows xp, i sometimes had issues installing xp on a system with more than one ram module present. i think it also happened if i had more than 4 gigs present too since it was the 32 bit edition. this was a long time ago, so i don't remember all the details. i do remember t...

[SOLVED - nov. 14 2019] fonts blurring in desktop
my apologies if this isn't the best forum to post in, but it's not really tutorial-level in my opinion and it is software-related. even though this is a new topic, i'm already marking it solved as i appear to have fixed my issue, just wanted to share my solution in case this happens to somebody else...

Re: How to change font colours
howdy, try installing oomox theme designer from the mint software manager. it's a flatpak application, so hopefully you still have the flatpak "framework" still installed. i just started using it myself, so i'm no expert on using it yet but it seems pretty handy. i haven't figured out how ...

Re: [SOLVED] need help: desktop icon label rename background color
so i was close. it was indeed using a gradient effect. seems like an odd place [to me] for a color gradient to be used, but maybe this is easier for other people to read? it's easier on my own eyes for dark background, light text [and borders, etc]. through my various web travels, i've seen where ot...

[SOLVED] need help: desktop icon label rename background color
was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction when they get time. my os: cinnamon desktop on mint 19.2 theme: air-mail-dark [exported from oomox], but it's an issue for me in the default themes as well i'm also using black as the color of the desktop background itself what's my issu...

Re: How many are 100% Linux here?
I'll throw in with 95% linux, i mainly keep windows 10 as a fall back in case there is a game or program i absolutely cannot get to run under linux for whatever reason. since first coming here in 2017, the times i've booted windows i could probably count on one hand. last time was setting up my new ...

Re: [HOWTO] Dual Booting & Windows System Time Incorrect
Thank you Pierre for the other solutions, for some reason I never came across the registry fix in my searches. I'll have to give that a try. I've noticed Windows doesn't seem to lose time if I don't boot all the way into Mint. Have a great day

[HOWTO] Dual Booting & Windows System Time Incorrect
Purpose: How to automatically correct windows time clock with a batch file and task scheduler. This is my personal workaround. Why: After I've personally setup a dual boot scenario on my pc, I noticed Windows no longer behaves and has correct time on the system tray, unless I went ahead and manually...

Re: I did it!
Thanks for the welcome everyone. :) I'm glad I ended up with Mint as well. Really solid OS and desktop environment. It should have been my first choice to begin with. On further thought, now that I have my dual boot figured out, I have even less desire to run Windows than I did before. In fact, boot...

I did it!
Hello world! After several days and headaches, I've finally did a successful dual boot with Linux Mint [Serena w/ Cinnamon] and Windows 10, and on two separate hdds. I'm a linux newb although I messed with some distros here and there back when I was in high school years ago, starting with slackware....
