Re: (RETIRED) KDE Wallet Error

Stupid thing wasn't even installed. I get the feeling I've got a slightly incomplete install of KDE on here. Oooops! The system is Mint Linux 18 Cinnamon that I installed KDE on after the fact. This can be tricky, switching desktops like that. Do you want to pursue fixing it from here or do a re-in...

Re: KDE Wallet Error

I don't use KDE Wallet myself. You can shut it OFF with Menu->System Settings->KWalletManager. Or delete whatever key you have in there right now and "take a mulligan". (that's known as a "do-over") :) thank you for the response, but KWalletManager doesn't appear anywhere in the menus or come up in...

Re: Chrome web browser need to be updated

I did install Chrome through the package manager. When I look at that about Chrome page it does not present an update option. May I ask how to activate that Mint Update you spoke about? Thanks, John John, It should already be active. Look at the lower-right corner of your screen in the tool tray fo...

Re: Get iphone 7 Plus Photos Into Cinnamon 18.1

Hi "rgand", I forgot to mention: This might work: If your iPhone, or any phone or device, uses an unencrypted microSD card for storing the multimedia files (photos, music, video, etc...), and you have a USB microSD card adapter (low cost), you can temporarily remove the microSD card from that phone...

Re: Get iphone 7 Plus Photos Into Cinnamon 18.1

Dropbox looks like a pretty fair solution. I wouldn't want it syncing anytime except while my phone is connected to wifi though.

Re: [SOLVED] Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Glad you got it working. That's the kind of thing that you can't just copypaste commands for and do in 10 minutes. Solving those kinds of things as a newer linux user feels pretty damn good no matter how much experience you have elsewhere. Pretty soon you'll be explaining to Torvalds himself why hi...

Starting with mint 17 forward all numbered releases are based on Ubuntu LTS - But 16 was based on Ubuntu 13.10 and reached end of life in July 2014. you can...

Re: My Terminal Won't Start

the thread you referenced said mint 16 which reached end of life and is no longer supported. if you did install mint 16 you should install either 17 or 18 instead. Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Hi "mweaver", That's cool (good) that you have a remote desktop application that is working the way you want it to. You have been installing and testing various RDP applications and methods which takes some time and effort, that is good for you and helps other here as well. So, thank you. Out of cu...

Joining Mint 18 (Cinnamon) Laptop to Windows Domain

At the moment I'm not sure there'd be any real advantage to doing this, but I've been doing some light reading on the subject so I know it can be done. For me at this moment it's more curiosity than anything else.

Any thoughts?

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Ugh! After all that work and I was so tickled with myself I was rooting around on the internet following threads from one thing to another last night looking for methods to make remote-app sessions ( that's what it's called when you run just an application from a terminal server ) and I found some ...

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Wow, your skill here is much more current than mine. xfreerdp was forked from rdesktop in 2009, about the time I started using rdesktop on a daily basis. Good job and well done. Why thank you kind sir...I've seen rdesktop and I'm glad it forked cause that things is a hot mess. I'm wondering though ...

Re: (SOLVED) Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Let me try this again.... cause I accidentally closed the tab I was using to create a post... ugh. Holy Shit I've done it!! Sorry for the language, but it's sort of exciting. After I got finished talking to Bob from India (a knowledgeable and well meaning gentleman who works for Symantec as a suppor...

Holy Mother of Yoda! I think I'm almost there, but it would appear I've got some work to do on the TS Gateway... I was rooting around the internet and came across a post in regards to xfreerdp. One thing led to another and another and before too long it appeared things were going to work the way I'...

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

I know I'm close... Edit: I checked Wine on my system and found the Windows RDP client exe file right in the system32 folder where its supposed to be but when I attempt to run the program there are errors which is what makes me believe Wine is incomplete on this system. You are. Stop. You don't nee...

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Hi "mweaver", Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum ! I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the ...

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

I'm not a Windows guy when it comes to this, but isn't RDP a universal protocol independent of Microsoft? There are some great RDP/VNC/SSH clients built right into Ubuntu/Mint, like Remmina for a GTK solution. Off hand I can also name vino and vingere, but don't quote me on which one is the client....

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Had a look at Crossover today.... While I really didn't expect Quickbooks to actually work, they advertise complete support for MS Office 2010 and 2013... All I can say from my experience is I'd be surprised if Notepad could actually run. What a great big steaming pile of s--t. I think I need more ...
