RELIABLE way to run cinnamon-screensaver-command ?

Running Mint 19.1 Kernel 5.0.0.15-generic Cinnamonm 4.0.10 I am trying to set the system up to safely lock after hours. I don't want to set a LockScreen delay but do it from a cron job. So far: I have: export DISPLAY=:0 && cinnamon-screensaver-command --lock >> ~./cron.log set to run every midnight....

Re: "System reports" - removed in Mint 19 ?

Thanks.

It was especially irritating that Googling for it did not tell me that it's actually called "mintreports." If it had, I would have known to check first.

As it is, the issue I thought I needed it for has decided to stop happening. For now ...

Re: "System reports" - removed in Mint 19 ?

Nope, never installed (maybe because I started with Mint 17.3 ?)

Anyway now installed - and therefore guaranteed I won't need it ever in future :)

Many thanks.

"System reports" - removed in Mint 19 ?

Because I can't find it.

Allegedly introduced in 18.3

PAN Newsreader - reposting failed posts ?

Is it possible to get PAN to create a draft for a post so that if posting fails (despite PAN thinking it hasn't) it can be reposted ?

Having some odd errors posting that aren't tripping any warnings. Seems something in some posts I reply to breaks PAN, or Eternal September.

Re: Desktop shortcuts stopped working ?

OK, thanks to the bug reports above https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/2009 I've found a workaround. My shortcuts were firing up an ssh connection to a server. The original shortcut was: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Comment=Secure Shell to Debian server Terminal=true Name=SSH to DebServer6...

[SOLVED] Desktop shortcuts stopped working ?

I noticed this thread about creating NEW shortcuts

viewtopic.php?f=208&t=285360

However, my problem is slightly different in that the shortcuts I had on my desktop before I upgraded to 19 have all stopped working. When I click on them - nothing.

Mouse/touchpad oddity - fix ?

I'm running Cinnamon 18.3 on an HP laptop with touchpad. Usually I use a USB mouse, and I swap the buttons (I'm left handed). All good. When I have to use my laptop away from the office, I use the touchpad. In the past, I've powered the laptop down, and then powered up to usday, e it - and the touch...

Evolution, GOA and Hotmail ...

Am using Evolution as my email and calendar app of choice. Have set up my Hotmail account via Gnome Online Accounts. Have then added that account to Evolution. What I am finding, is about 10 to 15 times a day, Evolution throws an error/warning about not being able to connect to account "Hotmail" or ...

LiveCD with SSH login pre-enabled

OK, here's the score. Let's pretend I have a machine which - for whatever reason and it's not important right now - cannot be connected to a monitor. So there's no way to reliably interact with the local console. Everything else is 100% functional - including the network. The 100% best way to access...

Re: What on earth is this image from LiveCD

I guess I could remove the DVD (it's still in the laptop) and look for the image file, and then google backwards ? seems a bit of a ballache though. FTAOD, that's a PICTURE of a mouse in the centre, not a mouse pointer. The mouse pointer works, and is a regular arrow one. My issue is without the men...

Tried to boot live CD - latest MINT MATE. Got this. Only mouse and Ctrl-Alt-F1/F8 work.

Hands up who has NEVER seen that picture before ?

It's a 2012 Acer Laptop that runs Windows 7

Ah, bit more to work with - thanks :)

Funny - we used to cross-assemble with nary a thought. Why not cross-AV ?

Re: Using Linux to virus scan other OS software ?

Thanks for the quick answer ! Not sure if it's me being slow, but I really can't see if that solves my question ... firstly it says it requires Windows (which I don't have running on any machine) which is a bit odd for a LiveCD. But secondly, it doesn't say that it can find other OSs viruses or malw...

Using Linux to virus scan other OS software ?

Is there an AV program I can run under Mint, that can scan Mac or Windows programs for viruses and malware ? ClamAV sprang to mind, but their front page isn't clear. Maybe my mind is messed up, but personally, scanning one OS software using another OS seems much safer and less open to an amusing inc...

Tool to create podcast RSS feed from local files ?

Have tried quite a few podcast tools from the repository - and elsewhere - but can't find what I need. I have a set of audio files, carefully tagged, and ordered. I want to be able to create a podcast RSS feed for them, so I can subscribe to it in my Android client (Podcast Republic). Currently I ca...

Re: *Really* laggy system - diagnostics

No. I fiddled around ages ago to ensure Timeshift only ran at night. I can't remember exactly how (it wasn't intuitive).

Just run your command, and it returned "Not Running".

*Really* laggy system - diagnostics

Here's my system specs ... Generally I run Firefox, with about 10 tabs open at any one time. Plus Evolution for email/calendar. Every so often - and it's getting worse - the system will jam up for over 5 minutes. When I say "jam up" I mean the clock doesn't update (I have photographs of my phone tod...

Whatever happened to this? The calendar in the date/time applet is still pretty much useless as of Cinnamon 3.4.
I agree ...
