Re: Deleting non-english fonts

Another approach is to use Font Manager GUI from SWM. With this tool you can easily disable all the fonts you don't want. Then if you change your mind simply re-enable. Once happy with the result, you could then delete the fonts as suggested already. System fonts to keep include Noto Sans Regular & ...

Re: Opening MOV file with VLC / xplayer Freezes PC

Reporting back after a large gap in time - June was swallowed up with theatre work (using my Mint C laptop for lighting control). I've now installed the packages phd21 suggested, one at a time ( libquicktime2 was already installed). With ffmpeg installed, the default xplayer now plays MOV files with...

Re: Best file search/preview app for Mint

I've just installed recoll v1.23.7 from SWM and am very pleased with its performance (using Mint C19.1). However to get it to recognise & index LibreOffice (and MS Office) files, you have to also install python-libxslt1 and python-libxml2 from SWM. Without them it only indexes text, csv, PDF etc.. T...

I've been wrestling with this very same issue as well - see viewtopic.php?f=48&t=294621&p=1640171#p1640171 .
At least I'm not alone!

Re: Opening MOV file with VLC / xplayer Freezes PC

I've uploaded a sample of the dashcam .mov footage for perusal of format. Given that smplayer handles the .MOV files OK, and that the root problem probably lies with the nvidia-304 driver and with no resolution likely, I think I'll stick with smplayer as the workaround. It's a pity because I'm sure ...

Re: Opening MOV file with VLC / xplayer Freezes PC

Thanks phd21 for the suggestions. I followed your instructions and Driver Manager then offered the choice of nvidia-304.137-0ubuntu2 driver, or nouveau v1:1.0.15-2 (current default). Selecting the nvidia-304 option then 'Apply Changes', produces this error message and the nvidia driver doesn't get i...

Opening MOV file with VLC / xplayer Freezes PC

Just discovered that attempting to open .MOV files with either VLC or the default xplayer causes my desktop PC to completely freeze. Any audio currently playing continues and the mouse-pointer can be moved, but ABSOLUTELY NO keypresses are recognised and the PC requires a power-reset to recover. All...

Dropbox Install Failed in MintC 19.1

(Edit: Moved to a new topic as requested). I've just completed two fresh installs of Mint Cinnamon 19.1. All went well except when using Software Manager (SWM) to install Dropbox / Nemo-Dropbox. Each time SWM hung at about 70% and had to be force-closed.. Subsequently, Update Manager produced the er...

Re: SUDDENLY Windows 7 KB4480970 Blocks Access for Linux Samba shares

UPDATE 2. I ran Windows Update again today but it still didn't offer the KB4487345 'fix' voluntarily, so I downloaded and installed it manually, and can confirm this restores normal Samba operation between Mint 18.3 and Win 7. If MS get around to providing KB4487345 with the regular Win Updates e.g....

Re: SUDDENLY Windows 7 KB4480970 Blocks Access for Linux Samba shares

Re: SUDDENLY Windows 7 KB4480970 Blocks Access for Linux Samba shares

Hello, allanr, You are aware that this is a Linux Mint forum, where you report a notorius Windows bug, introduced by mighty magic Microsoft in their fanatic January updates? ..... It is a Windows problem. Nothing which the Linux developers can fix. In particular it is not a Linux issue. Yes indeed,...

SUDDENLY Windows 7 KB4480970 Blocks Access for Linux Samba shares

I've been happily accessing files on my Win 7 PC from Linux Mint 18.3 for a while now (thanks to Altair4's instructions). Suddenly (yesterday, Thurs 10Jan'19) all connection attempts from Linux to the Win 7 PC were blocked due to a user/password login loop. I actually noticed it first from a Raspber...

Re: [SOLVED] Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'

Thanks to 'gm10'.

Your script solution has fixed both my desktop and laptop's failure to awake from sleep, which started with kernel 4.15.0-24 on Mint C 18.3.

Brilliant.

[Workaround] Network Issue With LM18.3 and Kernel 4.15.0-24

After accepting the latest kernel 4.15.0-24 update, I realised my laptop wired Ethernet connection would not reconnect after sleep. It was ok after first boot, but failed to connect after any period of sleep. Reverting to 4.13.0-45 restored normal operation. I'm posting this in case it helps others....

Re: Wireless not working

Yes, try reverting to kernel 4.13.0-45.

I had laptop issues with the network failing to awake from sleep after updating to kernel 4.15.0-24, and had to revert. There seem to be driver compilation failures with 4.15.0-24 and LM 18.3

See also Cinnamon issues with 4.15.0-24 and LM 18.3.

Re: Cinnamon constantly crashes after update to kernel 4 15.0-24

Thanks everyone for responding with helpful thoughts/suggestions. Looks like my elderly nvidia GeForce 7600GS video card and legacy 304.135 driver are the limiting factors. As recommended I'll stick with kernel 4.13.0-45 for the moment and trust that when I do eventually upgrade to LM 19 all will be...

Cinnamon constantly crashes after update to kernel 4.15.0-24

My LM Cinnamon 18.3 PC was working well until today when Update Manager offered Kernel 4.15.0.24, and I accepted! Prior to that the kernel was 4.13.0-45-generic x86_64 (64 bit), and Cinnamon version is 3.6.7. Now after every start, this error window appears: "Cinnamon just crashed. You are currently...
