Keyboard layout not properly set after installation

Hello Community, I installed 19.1 xfce 64 Bit and set both - the time zone I am in (Zuriche / Central Europe) - the keyboard layout needed (i.e. "Deutsch (Schweiz)") German keyboard layout has some special characters (like ö, ä, ü, ...) and the two characters 'y' and 'z' are changed compared to an e...

How do I connect an existing home partition

Hello Community, I installed 19.1 xfce 64 Bit in an existing 30 GB-partition I had not used before leaving both - 18.3 Cinnamon 64 Bit and - /home untouched in two separate partitions. Everything works fine except that the content of the existing directories in /home is not listed. The folders shown...

Re: [solved] HP5103 netbook does not boot from USB-stick or SD-card

... I made the installation of Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64 Bit with an USB memory stick two yrs ago and I did not have any issues. I was wrong when I said there were no issues when I installed 18.1 two years ago also from an USB stick. Now I remember that it was pretty much the same issue. I had pr...

Re: slow boot & poor performance on a HP5103 netbook

@Pjotr
thank you. Regarding visual effects I did as advised.
Regarding XFCE: that's what I also thought. But I cannot boot this laplop from both USB and SD. Also are BIOS setting seem to be right. Filed another post about this problem.

[solved] HP5103 netbook does not boot from USB-stick or SD-card

Hello, I wanted to give Mint XFCE 32 bit a try on my HP 5103 netbook as with Cinnamon 64 bit it shows slow boot & poor performance. The netbook does not boot from both a bootable USB-memory stick or an SD-card (both creating on a desktop running Mint 18.3 by right-clicking on an .iso and selecting '...

[solved] slow boot & poor performance on a HP5103 netbook

I am experiencing a very slow boot and poor performance with Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64 Bit on my HP 5103 netbook (Atom N550 CPU with 2x1.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB Harddisk). I am aware this is not a race horse, but normally it should be o.k. for surfing the web, mail and libre office when travelling. But ...

Re: [Solved]Cinnamon just crashed - The whale is dead

@Jens I experienced (and still do) the same problem with a freshly installed system from scratch. See my thread "LMDE: Popup-menus ... empty" or something like that. Do not want to leave the editor to check the exact titel I gave it. I do not understand the solution you found. How did you do it exac...

Re: Power Management when running on battery

Sorry I did not get back to you earlier. I was running into an issue with Cinnamon on this box I concentrated on. Following the output of the command System: Host: nb03_hp5103 Kernel: 3.16.0-4-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 4.8.4) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.2.7 (Gtk 3.14.5+4) Distro: LinuxMint 2 betsy Machine: ...

Re: LMDE 2 Mate 64 small hardware report

@uftipk
My answer might be late as your question is from Nov.
But: LMDE (and the LM main edition as well) run both perfect on small 10" devices. I installed in on a HP mini 5103. It is not a question of the size of the screen, but of the resolution.

Re: Popup-menues empty / frame only

Posted a link to this thread as a bug report.
I should have added that the last test I did (with the main edition) was as a live session from an USB flashdrive. LMDE 2 is still installed.
Am I right that a new stable ISO of LMDE will be available later this week?

Re: Popup-menues empty / frame only

Made another test on the same box (a HP5103 netbook) with the LM main edition, Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit, until the battery was down to zero. That worked very well. Which means, the problems / issues I ran into are purely LMDE 2-specific. Should that be communicated to the developers somehow? ...

Re: Popup-menues empty / frame only

o.k., I am aware that this is the branch of the main edition and my issues here are with the LMDE edition. Nevertheless: I left the box running for a couple of hours with just FF and TB active. Switched between those two apps every now and then; between Inbox and Sent Mail in TB and different tabs i...

@austin.texas thx. I will check that. Meanwhile I made a third installation on this box. (Solved) "Non-System disk .." message after fresh install

Folks, just wanted to communicate the solution I found separately in this post to make it better accessible. Following what worked for me: It seems that there is no consistent view regarding a boot flag to be set or not. I made three installations of LMDE on my HP5103 netbook before I finally now ha...

Re: "Non-System disk .." message after fresh install

@Mute Ant Again, thx for your help. Followed your advise and again started a Live Session, ..., and in the parameters replaced boot=live with root=/dev/sda1 . When I pressed F10 nothing happened at all. There are some more parameters which all refer to "live". Shouldn`t they be changed as well, then...

Re: "Non-System disk .." message after fresh install

@Mute Ant thx for your quick reply. I am very used setting up partitions with all their parameters and assign what they should be used for. But this time I am a bit confused. I set up only 3 partitions: sda1 (Swap), sda2 (/) and sda3 (home). Looking at the GParted-table (out of the live session) I j...

"Non-System disk .." message after fresh install

I made a complete new installation of LMDE 2 on a HP 5103 netbook from a flashdrive (USB stick). New partitions (for swap, root and home) were setup and formatted prior to the installation with GParted, all as Primary. The installation itself went absolutely smooth. The partitions already set up wer...
