mintupdate-tool levels

The mintupdate-tool seems to be disregarding the level specification. On several occasions now, I tried to specify to install only, say, level 2 upgrades but the tool also applied other levels. Here is the command I tried to use: sudo mintupdate-tool -l2 upgrade Instead of just level 2, it also inst...

Re: seeking clarity on ppa,s

There is no such thing as a perfectly trustworthy download site (not even the official repositories). Even if the people running the PPA are totally trustworthy, someone may have hacked them. Think about it - if even US government systems and large corporations get routinely hacked despite all of th...

mintupdate-tool commands

Where are the mintupdate-tool commands documented? The "man mintupdate-tool" and "apropos mintupdate-tool" don't show anything and the "mintupdate-tool --help" only lists the switches. I have seen examples with the "upgrade" and "list" commands but no explanation for each. Are there other commands t...

Re: What is the right way to run Update Manager remotely?

On my 18.2 'media-server' (aka repurposed old laptop stuffed behind the TV) I've in the last few days put a crontab entry on the root crontab using mintupdate-tool to automate updates. I've got sSMPT set up on the machine so I get emails with the output of cronjobs. As written this will run at 6am ...

Re: What is the right way to run Update Manager remotely?

I've seen that error message across the board when running GUI apps via SSH. Whether I use sudo or gksudo. When I first saw it, a while back, I searched the forums for an answer. Some claimed it was a known bug in Debian based Linux with GTK. But the general consensus was to not worry about it if t...

That is going to be so cool! I have not upgraded to 18.2 (I think that the mintupdate-tool is introduced in 18.2) but just this is a good enough reason to do that update. Thank you!

What is the right way to run Update Manager remotely?

I have a small LAN with 5 Linux Mint 18.1 computers (Cinnamon 3.2.7). Being generally lazy, I prefer to do most of my management remotely. Plus, my kids' desks have a tendency to be covered by a variety of sticky substances, so I try my best not to make physical contact. Therefore, I am trying to fi...

Graphic Pen Tablet

Does anyone have a recommendation for a graphic pen tablet that will work well under Linux Mint 18? I noticed that Wacom does not provide any Linux drivers. Is Xserver-xorg-input-wacom pretty reliable? Are there any graphic pen tablet companies that are more Linux friendly?

Re: AMD A6-7400K Kaveri Radeon R5 APU

Where can I go to learn how to configure the graphics driver from the command line? Switching into software rendering mode mode during boot is fine sometimes but right now, even that does not work. I would like to be able to reset the video driver to either the default or to try another driver. Howe...

AMD A6-7400K Kaveri Radeon R5 APU

I have a system that is running Linux Mint 17.3. I attempted to upgrade it to 18.1. However, for the life of me, I can't get the graphics to work. How can I restart Cinnamon remotely?

Occasionally my Cinnamon appears to lock up. I can not move the mouse and the keyboard does not respond. I also can not open a terminal and even the [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Backspace] combination does not work. However, Mint is still running just fine in the background, I just can't interact with it. For exam...
