Re: Distrowatch.com ranks

Distrowatch just records a visit to a distro once per day. People who already have a distro installed are probably less likely to visit than if they were still "shopping". Nothing to get upset about since it is a tally of daily visits rather than a conscious ranking. Be prepared to see thi...

Re: Hello.... Is it me you're looking for?

Hey there, BaronCabbage, I am glad to see that you did not give up. I began my struggle on a 15" late 2006 MacBook Pro, with the frustrating 32 bit EFI and the 64 bit CPU, that won't boot from a USB. A DVD install was required. The EFI was a blessing in that it got me started early with the rEF...

I apologize.

I mistakenly misread this as a MacBook Pro1,1.

Re: Laptop Memory - Exceeding the max

Your mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro 9,2 has 2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM slots and will accept 8GB in each for a total of 16GB according to the free MacTracker application. I would replace the hard drive with an SSD as first priority, followed by the RAM upgrade. New life for a great...

Re: Help me install Linux mint on my 2006 Mac Pro 1.1

The 2006 Mac Pro 1.1 uses an Intel Core Duo CPU which is 32 bit so you will need to install the 32 bit version of Linux Mint.

Re: Manjaro overtakes Mint in Distrowatch page-hit rankings

As has been noted before...

It is just a "page hit ranking", not a rating. It is a tally, not anyones opinion about anything.
Multiple hits by an individual are reduced to one per day.

I have only recently discovered the great value of YouTube as a learning tool. One channel that stands out for me more and more is DistroTube hosted by Derek Taylor. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVls1GmFKf6WlTraIb_IaJg/featured It helps a lot that I find his dialect of English to be "normal...

Re: Can no longer use Linux Mint

If Mint 18.2 was working, maybe it would make sense to go back to it. ...At least until your problems with 18.3 are resolved.

It is a shame to give up something that has served you for years.

I hope this works out for you.

Re: Install Linux Mint on Macbook A1181

I went looking for answers last night, and I found this article that says even when Apple went to a 64 bit EFI that they continued to restrict booting to 32 bit software for several years. http://www.everymac.com/mac-answers/snow-leopard-mac-os-x-faq/mac-os-x-snow-leopard-64-bit-macs-64-bit-efi-boot...
