Welcome Granny. Enjoy.
Love the name Granny Geek. Very original.
As far as being the oldest? Not sure about that.
I'm getting up there myself.

Re: why you switched to linux ?

I have used linux on and off for almost 10 years I think. I would be what is considered a distro hopper. I have tried all the major ones at one time or another. Except for Fedora. I can't seem to recall using that one. Some times I would dual boot and sometimes not. I now switched to linux full time...

Re: Advertising

The ads that appear on the forum are generated by Adsense The content supposedly reflects the interests of the user, probably based on their recent searches This can lead to some seemingly quite odd ads appearing So,although Mint derives some income from Adsense (to feed the devs and run the servers...

I'm all for LinuxMint making money.
But don't you find this rather ironic?

They refuse to support Linux users yet this is what happens.
I'm somewhat disappointed by this. But I'll live. :)

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

with straight Debian my audio would not work and display Ubuntu and mint don't care about free / non-free modules. That way, the desktop is always usable out-of-the-box, but the philosophy of linux isn't respected ;) Hogwash. And it has nothing to do with newer hardware. The issue has been ongoing ...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

If LMDE is a sleeping distro I say fine. I'll stick with what works.
Heck; with straight Debian my audio would not work and display
was only 1024x768. Amazingly wireless worked.
In this day and age something as basic as that to not work is
unacceptable. -imho

Re: Asus U56E laptop functional with Mint

Bought a new laptop... The touchpad is an Elan SMartPad- in windows it uses two finger scrolling (which I hate, Im too used to edge scrolling). However it is identified as a logitech scroll mouse. Mouse works, buttons work, and tapping works, but no scrolling. I found some instructions online to fi...

Re: Gnome vs. XFCE

The XFCE CE release page said that it "...provides most of the functionality found in the Main Edition while taking less resources." I was wondering (I'm a complete linux newbie, so I'm sure this is fairly obvious) what "functionality" would be given up with the XFCE edition? I ...
