Re: Desperately need double functional height of taskbar.

Are the MINT people watching these forums? Can this be added to the features request? I presume no answer to this question means they're not reading all threads... Their contact page suggested posting on the forum, that's why I did. Although I am sure Mint does not have double height panel in the pr...

Re: Desperately need double functional height of taskbar.

No, that feature is weird. It increases everything to crazy levels (that is not what I am after if you've read my post) and then when things are so big they are jumping out of the screen, two lines of taskbar apps will appear (that is what I want but NOT AFTER the first part of this sentence and lar...

Desperately need double functional height of taskbar.

Guys, I hook up my Mint 18 Mate to a work projector which changes my resolution to 1024x768 or something like that. I have 10 or so apps pinned to my "quicklaunch" (little panel next to start button) so that is permanently taking a bit of my "taskbar" horizontal space. When I am connected to the pro...

Mint Mate: Desperately need double functional height of taskbar.

Guys, I , for whatever reason, cannot post in the proper forum - Desktops. There is no New Post button. So I am posting here, maybe the admins can move it and investigate. I hook up my Mint 18 Mate to a work projector which changes my resolution to 1024x768 or something like that. I have 10 or so ap...

Re: Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

**UPDATE**

I have noticed that this is not only happening in web browsers. Thunderbird mail preview does the same thing.

Is this some issue with my video driver? Again, Ubuntu with Unity on the same laptop does not display that problem. But Ubuntu with xfce desktop does.

OK, this is the video. You can kind of see the weird effect. So annoying. The background information is in the first post.

Re: Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

OK, thanks. Yeah, I dislike Unity as well. I am on Mate for one reason... same layout as Windows LOL (and I work on all three platforms, Win, Mac and Linux).

Let me find some time to commit to this issue. Not urgent. I will reply again once I get a video sample.

Re: Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

OK, sure, but now scrolling is even worse. Not smooth at all (duh...). ... and I think some remnants of that effect are still there. Of course it is hard to tell since scrolling now looks bad anyway. Any idea why Ubuntu/Unity works flawlessly on the same setup? Something vastly improved in Unity as ...

Weird "jello" effect when scrolling web pages, LM + Mate

It is nearly impossible to shoot a video of it probably because of the low Frame Per S rate on phones. It is basically a bit like a jello effect, except not horizontal but vertical, visible only when scrolling long web pages in Chrome or Firefox. Because browsers scroll very smoothly overall, it is ...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

No, that scrolling issue has nothing to do with the projector. It is on my laptop's screen. I will shoot a video and maybe we can tackle that one. I will open a new thread. Thanks!

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

This is what I meant by when I said 1024x768 actually works better. Crappy picture but it shows how it nicely fills the entire space. 1366 ironically wastes space at the top and bottom in order to draw a rectangle with a wider aspect ratio. Now if I could only get LibreOffice to display PowerPoint s...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

The switch was not off. It was ON, as shown in the picture. People leave them on all day long usually. I plugged in the VGA cable and the projector turned on with the extended display (I had to switch it to cloned). I did not have to use the desktop launcher. I would have tried to remove the xorg fi...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

I think this is pretty much it: I can use the projectors perfectly fine with all the help you've provided. BTW, I have updated my kernel (and all packages with apt-get upgrade) to the newest one last night and I was hoping that perhaps the our projector setups would be detected automatically - which...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

Looks like that line Option "ReprobeOutputs" "true" is optional. I commented it out and it still works fine. Tried commenting the other and it did not work. But here are some new discoveries. When I used the 1366 code, it didn't work as shown here: http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt196/yogi799/tr...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

Guess what though... to my surprise, my ubuntu now stopped recognzinig the projectors! Just tried two different ones and no go. So maybe now my Ubuntu is facing the same problem L.M. has from the beginning. I don't care since that was just a test install, but nevertheless it is perplexing... And yes...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

1. In a previous post you said this: sometimes, randomly, the xorg file causes my desktop to boot to 1024 with part of the screen cut off . i have to log out and back in to get the whole screen. my login screen is ALSO ALWAYS 1024 since the xorg file creation. Do you still see that? 2. When you fir...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

WOW! This is great... getting even better! So I installed the new script and.... two things: My login screen is now fixed and the projector can be turned on via the desktop launcher. Awesome! BUT, this is new (I think... never saw this before IIRC). I rebooted the computer and accidentally left the ...

Re: Sharp projector VGA (via miniDP) not working on new Thinkpad Laptop

1. The xorg.conf file should not be needed if the projector's EDID could be read correctly by the graphics driver, which includes the manufacturer name, product type, resolutions, timings and frequency ranges supported by the display, display size, and other info. Otherwise this info has to be supp...
