Re: Bye bye i386...

I said goodbye to i386 30 years ago when I bought my first 80486 but that's not what this looks to be about :) :) ...couldn't agree more - but i want to see the complaints /reactions around: sky has fallen, why oh why, will Mint continue '...', Microsoft this & Microsoft that etc etc

...but good to know for the future. ...seems there exists a by far easier method than the above loopback one... syslinux-utils is already pre-installed under Mint - i assume the command should be isohybrid --uefi for EFI systems?... Semi-relevant: Crucial appears to have taken offline their support...

Yes - although to be perfectly honest, as i don't use it myself, Libreoffice pretty much has always had me covered,
i didn't really paid much attention myself, to either how Manjaro or Peppermint implements such / pulls it off...

Re: antivirus

Now the question is, are those new settlers welcome, or not? They will definitely change Linux, since they have completely different requirements and needs (this discussion proves it once again), and they massively outnumber the natives. If history is an indicator this is a recipe for disaster, yet...

Re: antivirus

...Kurt3162: i might sympathize on a certain level, but you're framing it under a wrong context & missing the point. People coming from Windows love Wine, since it allows them to keep their Windows programs, giving them the best of two worlds . It's actually even a major selling point for deciding p...

Re: antivirus

...Moem: i'm not a programmer either. The point of the above is: 1) AV products under Linux (with or without Wine...) are snake oil crap...the 'wrong' solution to the problem. 2) That it's not really rocket science for someone to design a windows executable that could infect linux executables as wel...

Re: antivirus

Would it really get that far if it expects to land on a full installation of Windows, not something like [not even] an emulator? That depends a lot on how well-crafted it is. Actually it only depends on if it does call functions Wine does not provide. Heck, Win10 malware often doesn't even work on ...

There's at least one user of Mint that I know of. Given that I have at least 5 computers, all running mint, I can confirm 5 users. ;) ...5 users courtesy of lsemmens + plus me, Drygar_2016, Pjotr, smurphos & gm10...so, yeap, that indeed verifies: ...as the Arch forums' moderator above correctly est...

LM forums have 115000 members, the FB page has 132000 likes, and the Reddit page 28000 followers. Ubuntu, 2.1 millions in the forums, 1.32 million ...

...the very first thing you're doing wrong there is that you're trying to install the wrong drivers : Radeon™ Software for Linux® version 19.10 for Ubuntu 18.04.2 ...the last version supporting Ubuntu 16.x (and thereby Mint 18.x), to my knowledge at least, is: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/relea...
