Re: Kernel 4.19 / 4.18 - trackpoint and touchpad not working

................................. So I'll stay with the LM provided kernel... ...correct choice  Seems a bug report has already been filled , you might want to keep an eye there (or even better help in resolving it quicker)... Look here as well, appears to include a couple of possible tempora...

Re: How does mint19 sync time

...on Mint 18.0, i recall both(!) ntp & ntpdate were installed.. Oh, good reminder, forgot about those. Actually default LM19 also has both of those installed in addition to timesyncd and is running ntpd via ntp.service, which seems to take priority. On my box I removed both ntp and ntpdate though,...

Re: How does mint19 sync time

...on Mint 18.0, i recall both(!) ntp & ntpdate were installed...& switched to timesyncd with those simple instructions . Mint 19 already uses timesyncd as gm10 showed above , so nothing extra to do there (see gm10's note below)... (except maybe have a read in regards to how it can configured if cur...

None? Ouch. You could also try the more generic acpi_osi=, without any further acpi_backlight parameters...
Do post the output from ls -l /sys/class/backlight/ in case someone comes with better ideas...

Nice. Controlling the backlight if it's not automatically working out-of-the-box is frequently more involved... Following the very exact same steps / procedure as per above, try further also adding the following parameters, ie. like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.nopnp i8042.no...

what's the link supposed to do? What is it, what does it do, and why would I want one? A semi-automatic way to control hundreds of privacy-related about:config entries if you will... In regards to the invididual settings / 'tweaks' themselves in the provided user.js, they are very well documented i...

...have you hold any packages from updating via Update Manager's levels?
I'd try: apt-get install --only-upgrade util-linux

Other than that, i'm out of ideas myself.
Do post inxi -Fxz & maybe also apt policy util-linux for others to know what they're dealing with though...

...on numerous Acer models, you need to first add a so-called 'Supervisor' password in your UEFI,
