Re: Breaking: Update Manager in 19.2 will no longer feature a protective level system

Sounds like you are quite well-off. Please be considerate of others who can't afford to just throw away their computers and get another one, or to regularly send in their computers for costly repairs/system-recoveries because of buggy updates or ISOs. ...i only own a single laptop here. If i someho...

Re: ImageJ doesn't run

Try: sudo cp /usr/bin/imagej /usr/bin/imagej-orig Say in order to be on the safe side, ie. have a 2nd copy of the original file. Not that it really matters in this specific case... because even if things go wrong, you could simply reinstall imagej & it will return to what it was. But it's a good pra...

Neither archive.ubuntu.com or yukinko.canonical.com times out here (archive.ubuntu.com gets re-routed to steelix.canonical.com, danava.canonical.com etc, depending on the moment...) ...can you try the following & see if it makes any difference whatsoever? Clean the lists first... sudo rm -rf /var/li...

Re: Everything works, looking for trouble anyway (Ideapad 530S-ARR)

I'd only recommend in a more generic manner the idle=nomwait myself, as the others are somewhat more involved / system-specific... Over-generalizing now, maybe kinda think of the iommu soft/pt parameters for Ryzens, sort of like the 'equivalent' of i8042.reset i8042.nomux for non-detected touchpads....

...the ivrs tables / device mapping is not always identical, the above was (relatively) specific to Oves' model. Eg. different Lenovo model / example (with Ryzen as well) here . Someone can manually find the addresses for his/her system with the following procedure . The iommu=soft is also somewhat ...

Re: fileSystem is full

If the journal couldn't be flushed, try journalctl --vacuum-size=10M or else, the even more drastic sudo rm -rfv /var/log/journal/* The rest, gm10 already covered them above: tail -n100 /var/log/syslog to see what / if something is spamming the log: not syslog. 1 , those are archived ones. Then just...

Try journalctl --flush, then run journalctl --disk-usage to see if it got reduced.

Re: Mint 19.1 random freezing

Your processor is affected by a well-known & still unresolved bug , with the workaround being to pass a parameter to grub. xed admin:///etc/default/grub Change / modify there as follows... GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" intel_idle.max_cstate=1 quiet splash" Save, run sudo update-grub , reboot. However...

Re: Breaking: Update Manager in 19.2 will no longer feature a protective level system

Before the above changes, Pjotr had described the Update Manager as the crown jewel of Linux Mint that made it better than most other Linux distros. If the crown jewel is lost or changed to ordinary grubs, LM will be no better than any other Linux distro. ...the 'crown jewel' of LM's development (s...

Re: How to disable wakeup on lid open event?

Couldn't pull this off either - at first i disabled everything under /proc/acpi/wakeup just in case...
then checked with grep . /sys/bus/*/devices/*/power/wakeup afterwards, and disabled a couple of still-enabled ones
(only left the PWRBN / power button enabled there). But still nada... :?

Re: HDD Spindown Issue

On Bionic, the path should be /sbin/hdparm instead... locate hdparm Another thing to note : /lib/udev/rules.d/85-hdparm.rules You might or might not have to change 69 -hdparm.rules to a higher number (than 85), if you find it still doesn't do the trick (eg. 90 -hdparm.rules or similar...)
