Re: Thermald - does it automatically load at boot
Since I could not find any reasonable xml files to use when configuring Thermald I removed it. I wanted to play with different scripts to see how they effected heat, performance, etc. I use psensor to monitor. Oddly since removing Thermald my temps seem to be lower, maybe more stable. Maybe letting ...

Re: Thermald - does it automatically load at boot
[/quote] i5 is a performance level indicator used for branded marketing of the Intel Core processor line-up and not a specific generation (currently there are four - i3, i5, i7, i9). There's been 11 generations of Core i5 to date, Sandy Bridge were 2nd generation produced and sold from 2011 to 2013....

Re: Thermald - does it automatically load at boot
Yep,it is for Intel. I've also found a few XML config examples.
I am fairly certain i5 is Sandy Bridge and mine is i5.

Thermald - does it automatically load at boot
I think I read that Thermald is included with installation and if so does it load at boot?
If it doesn't load at boot how can I include it to start at boot?
Are there options in Thermald like having it take over some of the kernels job?

Re: How do I use Deja dup and backup to google
It didn't take very long, about 15 minutes to save to Google Drive. This computer is doing it over wireless and I get about 100 Mbps down and 6 up. Ethernet gives me about 250 DL and 6 up. So at those wireless speeds up it took a bit of time to save and verify. So I am thinking that the LMDE synapti...

Re: How do I use Deja dup and backup to google
Well i had no such thing on the synaptic package Deja Dup. I went to one of my computers with Manjaro and installed Deja Dup. In their repository it was version 45. I used it and there were a lot more prompts in that version. Prompts to access Goggle etc. So I am thinking that the LMDE synaptic mana...

How do I use Deja dup and backup to google
Ok, I've tried many different ideas and Deja Dup 38.3 gives the option to back up to google drive. But there is something missing in the set-up. I keep getting waiting for google to be configured error. Trouble is that Deja-dup doesn't have any place to give the sign on for my google drive or any ot...

Re: Mint Cinnamon - Manjaro Cinnamon - what does it all mean
@urdwho - Thank you for your detailed comparison and analysis. I recently gave the lastest Manjaro 20 another try, too. But I still don't like it. Linux Mint for me is far more polished and professional. For example, I use full disk encryption. Manjaro's passphrase screen is nothing compared to Lin...

Re: Mint Cinnamon - Manjaro Cinnamon - what does it all mean
Ok I gave Manjaro 20 ten days of trial. It seems like it is good but man what a PITA it can be. I had to reinstall because I lost my printer and there was just no way of putting up that local print job. After the reinstall it worked. I added some things from their AUR to try out, kept a couple and r...

Re: IS there a downside to using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-18.04" package
No there isn't a downside as long as you are actually using Mint 19.X and not Mint 20 because using an old 18.04 package for Mint 20 xorg may cause unexpected issues. So use what works best for your work flow. I used the synaptics input driver too with my laptop because there were better options fo...

IS there a downside to using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-18.04" package
In order to get smooth scrolling working while browsing online I have two computers that want to use xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-18.04" The libinput driver does not have a smooth scroll when using a browser and that is why I installed the hwe-18.04 What is the downside of doing it? I guess...

Re: Mint Cinnamon - Manjaro Cinnamon - what does it all mean
Every so often I just go on a hunt for the shangri la of operating systems but I've always ended back at Mint. I've had / have- mate, cinnamon and LMDE4. But I just don't speak Arch. Like when I want all the mint back rounds I do sudo apt-get install mint-backgrounds* To do the same with Arch is lik...

Mint Cinnamon - Manjaro Cinnamon - what does it all mean
Wasn't sure where to put this post and if this isn't the right place the admin will most likely move it. :) I've been a Mint devotee for a long time but once in a while I take a look at other distros. So I have done with Manjaro 20 Cinnamon. Both Mint and Manjaro have all available updates; the brow...

Re: BIOS and Hard Drived locked in Toshiba laptop
Remove the battery from the BIOS (clock), it looks like a coin (the most common is a CR-2032). This will erase the setup settings, including a password entered, if any. It will look like a coin unless the CMOS battery is like the one on the P855-S5312. On the P855 it was soldered to the board. Easy...

Re: What happened to seahorse
Maybe the links in this thread [ RESOLVED ] seahorse guide might help. Thanks. Yes I saw that last night before posting and it really didn't explain much of what happened to the Seahorse I once knew. What I am seeing on last nights fresh install of Mint 20 doesn't look like I see here https://www.l...

What happened to seahorse solved
Its been a while since I did a new install or needed to use seahorse. I see it is installed but it doesn't appear in any applications. I liked using seahorse it was easy to use and it worked. Not a fan of GnuPGkeys. But wait when I open it I see it says seahorse but it sure seems different. I can't ...
