How do I get Chromium FFmpeg codecs (non Snaps)

I've been using Opera and have a lot of years worth of browsing in it. But Opera has always had their issues and one is their Codec. For some sites the research I found says that I need to install Chromium FFmpeg codecs. The link in the Opera forum takes me to SNAPS and I don't so SNAPS. Any other w...

I took a quick look at the links and will have to take time later today to digest what they did to the files.

Re: kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101

Yes the last install controls booting. Maybe I should be looking into the last install which was LMDE.

Re: kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101

I have multiple alternative recovery options, some don't work or boot. I have found one that does start the 5.3.0 - 51. So maybe I'll keep 5.3.0 installed plus 4.15 and see how it goes. FWIW I keep, and almost always use, one 4.15 kernel with one 5.3 for backup; from what I see in this forum 4.15 i...

Re: kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101

You dont have to edit any sub menus to boot to a different kernel. Just boot in grub, choose advanced options and choose the kernel you want to boot to. uname -r gives the kernel you have booted to. [/quote] But the problem is all those options don't give a reference name of the kernel. Each option...

Re: kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101

I removed all kernels and kept 5.3.0 - 51 and 4.15. All of those options are still available but now by default it boots into the 5.3.0-15 kernel. I guess I could go find grub and see all the sub-menus and edit but I could cause more problems. I'm going to boot one more time to check that it is boot...

I'll give that a try.

Keep at most 2 kernels and delete the rest. They take space.

kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101

I just noticed that kernel 5.3.0-51 installed but only using 4.15.0-101. Levels - preference - update manager still there?

Looking at my one laptop, it has an old installation of Mint 17. On it there is a choice of levels on preferences - update manager. Is that still available on 19.3 or has it been moved? The reason I ask is that on another old laptop I want to stop kernel updates. It used to be this way -- "Controlli...

Re: Boot into recovery - password locked

Ok, I'm giving up. I use a short password, which is allowed at installation. While experimenting with passwords I have lost the ability to have a short password. I DO NOT LIKE being told how and what to do with my own computer. I almost feel like this is windows telling me how to go about my day. So...

Re: Boot into recovery - password locked

Well I did that and changed the password to a new password. Attempting to get into recovery boot I eventually get this - Give Root Password for Maintenance (or press Control-D to continue) [17.601784] Input BRLTTY 5.6 Linux screen driver keyboard as /devices/virtual/input/input19 Hit Control-D and i...

Re: Boot into recovery - password locked

No this is not on the tablet. This is on a machine that has Windows, Tricia and LMDE4. Everything runs as expected except for the LMDE4 recovery option. I only found out when I said -- "hm I've never booted into the LMDE recovery - wonder what it looks like?" And that is how I found the boot locked ...

Boot into recovery - password locked

When I go to boot into recovery I get a password locked message. I can continue but it doesn't boot into recovery I get a normal boot.

This isn't a problem now BUT if I ever need recovery - I'd be locked out. I'd like to fix it now when I don't need it so it is there when needed.

Using refind is a possibility, and the one I recommend. At install time, refind normally auto-detects your architecture and installs the corresponding binary. So in your case it would have installed a 32-bit EFI.

Re: Bootloader in windows EFI

I may have to mark this one fixed. And reading about the Atom processor here - https://github.com/5bentz/linux-asus-t100/blob/master/T100TA_guide.md After reading about EFI here- http://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/principles.html While reading the above I saw this and installed the program. I ...
