Re: Remove dots, periods on right end of panel window-list-items
I never did find an explanation how to remove the ellipses on open windows buttons in the panel. I was able to make other windows or elements stop using ellipses (that also used the Pango ellipsize feature) by changing the "MODE" from "END" to "NONE." But it didn't work...

Re: Change Firefox titlebar background to gradient
Long ago and far away... I finally figured out a relatively easy way to put the same gradient on title bars as on <menu / tab / nav / bookmark> bars or toolbars background. One of the Mint-x Metacity themes had a gradient set up for one of the bars, so I used that Metacity theme in the theme I was u...

Re: How to create panel launcher for folder without opening Thunar
Thanks MrEen, You were correct on the link that discusses adding "additional items" to a panel launcher in XFCE. I don't think Cinnamon has the same thing - maybe in ver. 19 or 20. It is a "Panel Launcher plugin." What the xfce.org doc writers didn't say is there are several bugs...

How to create panel launcher for folder without opening Thunar
I'm running LM 19.3 Xfce on an older laptop (well, not ME, per `se). The apps running & window opening times are fine on it, but do try & conserve RAM. On my other box (Cinnamon DE), I created a folder & added most of my often used apps' launchers to the folder. Ultimately put a launcher...

Mint 19.3 Xfce - panel launchers & RAM
I installed LM 19.3 Xfce on an older laptop for a friend. Limiting unnecessary RAM use is a concern. Xfce works quite well on it, mostly. Still looking for ways to trim RAM use w/o a huge productivity hit. I've searched a good bit to find roughly how much RAM each of the "quick" launchers ...

Re: Remove dots, periods on right end of panel window-list-items
Uh, oh. I was afraid an answer to this question might be obscure. Truncating labels - replacing w/ dots (doesn't save any space) on open window buttons in the panel may be buried in Fx code. I couldn't find anything on the web.
It seems new to me - don't remember it in earlier versions.

Re: Starting pgm fm CL
You're right (for after Mint 18.x)! Good catch.
Yes, I still use LM 18.x on one box (most of the time) but LM 19.3 on another (not my 'puter, just "fix" it).
So I wasn't thinking of the change starting in LM 19.

Re: Starting pgm fm CL
If you have to use sudo to start apps from CL (& some you will), DON'T use just "sudo" to start a GRAPHICAL (GUI) type of app. Instead, use "gksudo" then the regular starting command (from the launcher, if it has one). If you use sudo to start GUI apps, it can mess up permiss...

Re: Please recommend a YouTube downloader
It's a little easier to do some things using the GUI youtube-dlg - but if you don't change a lot of things each time, like D/L destination; whether you're using a proxy, etc., the command line version is just as, if not easier than the GUI helper, once you learn - or make a cheat sheet for a few, co...

Remove dots, periods on right end of panel window-list-items
Anyone know how to remove the wasted space of dots & maybe padding on each window-list-item-labels, where labels are longer than the list-item-box? I'd rather see more description than dots & wasted space. I've tried everything in cinnamon.css & failed. Thanks. cinnamon.unwanted.dots.end...

Re: Change Firefox titlebar background to gradient
antikythera, Thanks. I guess my comment about "care about Firefox titlebar & that's fading fast" was misleading. I meant more so, that wanting to spend more time on getting a gradient in the title bar was fading. I don't want to turn it off, because at times certain apps use or compare...

Re: More an 'FYI' than question. Change app icon used on panel buttons.
Cinnamon 18.3 in that if you pick an icon from a different theme it doesn't use the full path in the launcher, just the icon name, Are you saying that even if you click the icon in the Cinnamon launcher, browse to the exact location of an icon to use & select it, that sometimes it still won't u...

Change Firefox titlebar background to gradient
I found how little I know about Metacity themes & xml format, even after studying a good bit to (fail to) make one small change. I even found some examples, similar but not exact to adding a vertical gradient to title bars in a Cinnamon theme, Cinnamox Heather. Also tutorials at https://wiki.gno...

Re: mint 19.3 Mate slow boot_older laptop
Thanks for all comments, suggestions. The dinosaur has risen from the ashes. As it turns out, Mint xfce 19.3, kernel 5.0 runs fine on the 2 GB RAM laptop. With a couple of adjustments. Finding the necessary changes for each case is the hard part. Number of people with complaints, " computer boo...

Though it's more likely that the entire leading-edge OS and DE is too much for a 13yr old fossil. Fossil?!? I resemble that remark. I agree in theory w/ bjmh46, Re: this machine should boot faster, given it runs apps OK. For several logical reasons. No disrespect - it's a complicated issue. I'm not...

mint 19.3 Mate slow boot_older laptop
This Toshiba Satellite 32bit laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, only has 2 GB RAM (good qual, but maxed). It's taking longer by "wall clock" time to boot than "systemd-analyze" shows. It takes 3 - 5 min to reach login screen. I've disabled a lot of eye candy in Mate, if that will ha...

How to inspect Cinnamon panel & HTML / CSS for Firefox bookmark library UI?
Technically, this isn't about Mint - except for the panel. So far, I haven't found a way to view the code for elements in (Linux) Firefox bookmark library. Devtools (nor browser toolbox - for chrome elements) don't outline the library UI elements - or I haven't found instructions or figured it out. ...

More an 'FYI' than question. Change app icon used on panel buttons.
This is more of an FYI. If others want to add comments or know an easier way than I did this - great! Mint 18.1, Cinnamon 3.2.7. I'm not sure when the Thunderbird icon changed on the panel button for open apps. I've used Mozilla's version from the start, but I guess the Mint installed Tbird had icon...

Re: Mint NTP won't sync time or connect, but NTPDATE would
Hi, gm10. Hi, mintefrsh. Right. This is what I have done on all of my Mint 18.x systems, where ntpd and systemd-timesyncd.service collided: Stopped ntpd service. Uninstalled ntpd. Enabled systemd-timesyncd.service. Started systemd-timesyncd.service. Lived happily ever after. P.S.: It did not even o...

Re: Mint NTP won't sync time or connect, but NTPDATE would
Thank you both (I hope). :D I appreciate the shorter sounding solution & Karl's 2nd motion. Why oh why didn't I post here, 1st? May not have many hrs left & wasted quite a few. If ntpd has frequent problems - least starting in LM 18, I never came across many articles (out of 100 or so), sayi...
