LMDE2 and configuration for long term support

LMDE2 is based on Debian Jessie, and Debian offers long-term support for Jessie through mid-2020, but how do we ensure that LMDE2 is properly configured to receive those LTS security updates? https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using#Using_Debian_Long_Term_Support_.28LTS.29 states that /etc/apt/sources.list...

Proper way to remove systemd as init in LMDE3?

I'd like to revert LMDE3 to SysV from systemd as the init system, is there an official way to accomplish this?

Note: I'm not interested in debating the philosophies of systemd here - if it is appropriate for you, great. It's not appropriate for me.

Re: Wesnoth 1.14 ?

You'll probably want to contact the maintainers about the possibility of an updated backport, at https://packages.debian.org/jessie-backports/wesnoth 1.14 is not in stretch yet, only stretch-backports. In the meantime, you might want to try compiling it for yourself?: https://wiki.wesnoth.org/Compil...

Re: Enable graphics acceleration + window animations under LMDE 2

How can you install graphics drivers in LMDE when, at its default boot-time resolution of 640x480, you can't even get to the OK and Next buttons in an installer because the windows are so huge the buttons are off-screen? That issue made me toss LMDE on the repository junkpile. Hold down the Alt but...

I ended up adding:
hdparm -Y /dev/sda
to /etc/rc.local, to put my SSD in standby mode.

I managed to get the open-source amdgpu driver working under LMDE 2 (Debian 8 Jessie oldstable), maybe this will help you all on the Main Edition?: viewtopic.php?f=239&t=266999

Turn off SSD while in LMDE2

Hi, I'm booting LMDE2 from an internal HDD, and I also have an internal SSD that's exclusively used to boot and run Windows and Windows programs. Is there a way to configure LMDE 2 to turn off the SSD or at least put it permanently to sleep/suspend to save power, reduce heat, and reduce wear and tea...

How To: Install AMD Radeon RX560 (Polaris 11/Baffin) GPU support on LMDE2 Betsy (Debian 8 Jessie)

My AMD Radeon RX560 card appears to be working well so far on LMDE2 with all open-source drivers. Here's a high-level look into what I did: 1. Installed & fully updated LMDE2 while connected to integrated graphics; 2. Added jessie-backports repository; 3. Installed AMD firmware, Mesa (3D) & X.org-am...

Linux is now 18.3

whatever you read in that article for 4.17 is null and void.
Well, he was writing about the upcoming Linux Kernel (4.17), not Linux Mint (18.3), but thanks for your reply.

Kernel vs Driver Question

I was reading this article: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMDGPU-DC-4.17-Default When he writes "With Linux 4.17 that is changing with AMDGPU DC being enabled by default across the board for supported GPUs" does this mean that all supported GPU cards will just work automaticall...

LMDE2 to LMDE3

Does the rolling updates feature of LMDE2 mean that it will eventually update everything to LMDE3, or will LMDE2 remain separately updated from 3?
