Re: Wallpaper doesn't appear.

Someone else had this problem and eventually found it was simply because the setting for "Style" in the Desktop background settings had somehow got changed to "None". :) In that case, the wallpaper does not show at all and you just get the solid colour. If that is what has happened here, then click ...

Re: Can I tweak the active window color?

Hi, begtognen There is probably some obscure setting in a configuration file somewhere which determines the colour gradient. Sorry I don't know which one! If you have no great attachment to your current theme, the simplest answer is probably to switch to a different theme in the Window Manager setti...

Re: Lexmark CX-417de Scanner Not Recognised

Hi DLF2000, I understand your latest question is mostly posed out of frustration but I cannot see that Linux has done any damage here. At worst, the driver doesn't operate your printer properly but presumably it would still work in Windows. Indeed, if it turned out to be equally useless in Windows, ...

Re: Dell c1760nw printer with 19.2

Hi, David A couple of further thoughts struck me. The 'hplip' thing reminded me that many laser printers are/were compatible with HP's printer language, I suppose because HP Laserjets are in a way the archetypal laser printer. Unfortunately, a quick look at the Dell and Xerox info online gives no in...

Re: Dell c1760nw printer with 19.2

That second error message seems odd as 'hplip' refers to the driver package for HP printers, whereas yours is supposedly a Xerox rebadged as Dell. It is as though your computer is trying to print the test page to an HP printer - and failing. So I wonder if you also have an HP printer and whether tha...

Have you tried adjusting the slider above this setting? Perhaps putting it more to the left?

Re: Desktop Icons

But Mint does show shortcuts in the filesystem. There would be no point having shortcuts if they were invisible! If you click on File System and look for instance in the /lib directory you will see icons with the shortcut arrows in the corner. The point is that it is only the inbuilt Desktop shortcu...

Re: How do I create a password for Linux Mint 19 Xfce

Hi, Jane Glad you got your problem sorted. It might be worth making it clear though that you only have one password in Linux Mint and you use it every time you log in (unless you opt for automatic login as you obviously did originally) and also when performing any system changes such as regular soft...

Re: Lexmark CX-417de Scanner Not Recognised

Hi DLF2000, I don't know if you've had a chance to try Brian's further suggestion. If you've done that and still had no success, you might want to note that Lexmark apparently released an updated driver on 10th July! The new file is: lexmark_network-scan-linux-glibc2_04082019_x86_64.deb Not sure if ...

Re: Lexmark CX-417de Scanner Not Recognised

Hello DLF2000, Copy those three files into this folder: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane/ You will need to copy them as root. Simplest way in Nemo is to right-click on any empty space within the window containing the three files and select "Open as root". Input your password. Nemo will then reopen wit...

Re: LM 19 (cinnamon) shutdown hang sometimes

iirc when I tried (before installing later) on my Athlon II pc, I clicked shutdown and it turned off normally. To be fair, I agree now you are probably quite correct! My Linux Mint Live USBs deliberately hang on shutdown in the way I described, but it seems to depend on the way they are created. So...

Re: LM 19 (cinnamon) shutdown hang sometimes

Hi, I'm slightly confused by your query because it's meant to hang on the logo when you shut down! But you should at that point get a message on the screen saying "Please remove the installation medium, then press Enter". Then if you pull out the USB stick and press Enter, the machine should switch ...

Re: Can't add new Wallpaper

If the problem is the same as last time, then the solution may well be the same also! :) It sounds as if you are trying to change the wallpaper using the settings on the Desktop. Karlchen's suggestion was to use the File Manager (Thunar) instead. Navigate to the jpg or png file you want, right-click...

Re: Help With File Management

Some of the comments in this thread about moving files and dragging and dropping files between multiple tabs etc seem strange to me. I think the simplest way of moving or copying files or folders (from wherever to wherever) is by right-click cut and paste or right-click copy and paste. Of course, it...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Thanks, kyphi . It's just a shame I have no practical experience of wi-fi networks, IP addresses or even Epson printers so I may not be the best person to be giving out advice! fotoD: For what it's worth (see para above) I think you are on the right lines. Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Sorry to jump in here (especially as I don't even own an Epson scanner) but I think there may be some confusion here because fotoderek and kyphi are probably talking about two different pieces of software. As far as I can see, there are two Epson packages relating to scanners, both called Image Scan...

Re: Printer Issue

Hi, I assume that you have not managed to get this printer working at all, either via USB or wireless, and that you have not downloaded any drivers from Epson. Instead you have chosen from the list of drivers already available in Linux Mint and that XP-8500 wasn't listed so you chose XP-820. However...

It's unlikely, I know, but you haven't accidentally changed the Page Layout settings to print 4 pages per sheet?
