Re: Opinion XFCE vs Cinnamon

And that was the point I was trying to make. When Mint uses Xfce 4.16, all the Xfce settings windows will be using the same CSD as that Calculator window. There had been talk of forcing it everywhere it's available, but they backed down on that. And over on the Xfce forum , some users have already ...

HOW TO change the colour of title bars and window borders in Xfce

One thing I dislike about the default Mint setup is the drab greyness of the title bars. They merge in visually with the actual window and also make it hard to distinguish between active and background windows. You can change to a dark theme and have black title bars but in Xfce it is not at all obv...

Re: Compact folder view

I suspect this may simply be a limitation/bug/feature (whatever you want to call it) of Thunar i.e. a slight variability in the horizontal spacing. In your File System window all the folders have short snappy names but maybe in your home folder (if you scroll down) there might be folders or files wi...

Re: manual FSCK required

It's stating the obvious, I know, but - whether or not this is a hard drive problem - your hard drive could still suddenly fail completely. Hopefully you have all your important data - including your thesis - backed up on something completely separate from the computer!! Preferably two backups. I'm ...

Re: Shade/roll-up window using mouse wheel in title bar

This may seem a silly question but are you sure the system you are thinking of was MATE? I say that because rolling up the window with the mouse scrollwheel is a feature in Xfce. In fact Mint Xfce has it set to be on by default (you can turn it on or off in Xfce from the Accessibility tab of Window ...

Re: SANE configuration for Xerox B205 and B215

The second line of code is not to add any additional software but simply to open (as root) that configuration file in a text editor, presumably in order to edit it in some way. The equivalent in recent versions of Mint would be: xed admin:///etc/sane.d/dll.conf then enter your normal password (it re...

Re: Taskbar font - size & color

Hi, Fizz. Bear in mind this thread relates to the MATE desktop so things will be different if you have Cinnamon. I've just checked Mint 19 Cinnamon and in that Fonts are found under Preferences in the Menu. However, based on a very quick look, I couldn't see that any of the font options actually cha...

Re: Taskbar font - size & color

If you've sorted out the font size, then to change the colour you could try my suggestion above but omitting most of the text and just using the last three lines. In other words, go to your home folder and make sure hidden files (those beginning with a dot) are visible (if they aren't, select "...

Re: Taskbar font - size & color

Hi, newyorkpaulie You could try doing this by adding a text file in your home folder which overrides the settings in your GTK theme. Make sure "Show hidden files" is enabled in your file browser and go to /home/ <username> /.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css (create this gtk.css file if it doesn't al...

Re: customized scrollbars in firefox broken in Mint 20

Yes - I too prefer wider, coloured scrollbars. The usual way to make adjustments like this is with a simple text file in your home folder. I have Mint 19.3 Xfce but I expect it works just the same in Mint 20 Mate. Go to your home folder and make sure that 'hidden' files/folders (those beginning with...

Re: Scanner scans, but pdf files are broken after 3 pages

That is weird, but it might be hard to pin down the cause, unless for instance you can point to a particular software update which happened just before the problem started. You could try opening the pdf in a different viewer - or web browser - but it doesn't help much if a file opens in some viewers...

Re: RICOH SP-150 does not print in LM20

In case it's simply a connection problem, you could try swapping the USB lead for another if you have a spare one and/or using a different USB port on the computer. Re the CUPS password issue, if you had a root password (which is optional in Mint) it might have accepted root as the user name and the...

Re: RICOH SP-150 does not print in LM20

Sorry you're not having much luck. Do you get any error messages at all (helpful or otherwise)? Suggest you attempt to print a short text file then click on your printer icon in the panel (or right-click on the printer icon in your Printers settings) to view the print queue. Then right-click on the ...

Re: RICOH SP-150 does not print in LM20

Not sure exactly how you would proceed from here but presumably having installed the driver, you need to add the printer again and this time point it to the driver or PPD file for the Ricoh SP 150. You can add the printer using the Printers app in Mint's menu (or from the command line by "setti...

Re: RICOH SP-150 does not print in LM20

I've just had a look at the Ricoh download page. As dave1953 says, there are downloads there for Ubuntu. It is true the downloaded file ends in .exe but if you right-click on it and "Open in Archive Manager" then click on "Extract" (twice) it gives you a deb file which can be ins...

Is this accessed via a web browser? Maybe a Firefox update has caused a problem, in which case you could perhaps try using a different browser instead, eg Chromium.

Re: Fn+F3 and Fn+F4 do not change brightness

These may be silly questions but I'll throw them in the mix anyway: (1) Isn't it more usual for just the function keys to control brightness, volume etc - i.e. F3 or F4 (not Fn+F3 or Fn+F4)? (Admittedly, it probably varies from one laptop to another and may be something that can be changed in the Bi...

Re: completely remove opera and snap

Hi missmoondog Removing snap packages should be fairly simple with a command like this in the terminal sudo snap remove name-of-package I don't know whether the package name for Opera is simply opera or maybe something else like opera-browser or whatever. But entering snap list in the terminal shoul...
