Re: XFCE Windows Theme Settings

Hi satsriakal, I was going to post a reply but Mr Een beat me to it! Hopefully the links he has provided will help you find what you are looking for. Alternatively, I was going to suggest you could add some text in your home folder to make the necessary changes to whatever theme you already have. If...

Re: Xsane lost images

My mistake was thinking it was an auto save to the file shown in the save window because the image disappears after scanning. Just as an afterthought...it seems odd if the image disappeared after scanning. When I was briefly experimenting with Xsane yesterday, the scanned image remained in the View...

Re: [SOLVED] Xsane lost images

No problem! I'm pleased it works. I've not really used Xsane except to try it out, and it does seem a bit more complex as you say. To be honest, I'm always slightly confused by programs that open on the desktop with multiple windows... :)

Re: Xsane lost images

Hi I'm thinking that maybe you haven't actually saved the image yet? When a scan is completed the scanned image will appear on screen but "/home/jennifer/out.png" simply indicates what the file name/location will be by default if you choose to save it. To complete the save you still need to click th...

Re: Printer: HP Officejet 4500 G510n doesn't scan.

I'm not familiar with HP software but printing and scanning are normally two separate things. Does the scanning function not work if you open up Simple Scan (it should be in Cinnamon's menu under Graphics)?

Re: Accidently got rid of the top status bar in file manager

Thanks! "cntrl+m" got the "menubar" is what it's called back. If you accidentality disabled, and didn't see the shortcut like I did how would you then go about solving the issue without having to make a post? In answer to that I would say it's best to keep the Live-USB or Live-DVD from which you or...

Re: weather panel plugin

I have a few different Xfce distros on USB sticks and can confirm that those which have version 0.10.1 of the weather plugin are OK but version 0.10.0 no longer works. Mint 20 has the newer version but 19.3 has the latter unfortunately. There is a thread about this on the MX Linux forum: https://for...

Very ingenious! :D Seems like a good pragmatic solution and if it works for you, it could help somebody else with the same problem. Suggest you edit your first post to add [SOLVED] to the title.

Re: Tooltip on notification area shows at bottom

Clutching at straws here, but have you tried: (1) Using a different theme in the Mouse and Touchpad Settings (ie a different style of cursor, not just a different size)? (2) Selecting "Square Icons" or "Show Frame" in the Notification Area properties? (3) Turning on (or off) "Enable display composit...

Re: Unstable Cursor & Inconsistent Touchpad

Hi cindyo112 Hopefully you can find the right kernel which makes everything work OK. :) Otherwise, I just wanted to say that the xinput command you tried will only work for the current session. You could open the terminal each time you login and reactivate it - or more simply enter your command in S...

Re: Astrology program not loading after install

Hi Katt Those three Source downloads (tar.gz) are only relevant if you wish to compile the program from source which isn't generally a newbie thing. You say you installed the .deb files Pyswisseph, Python3-swisseph and OpenAstro.org but there's actually a fourth file listed on the download page - Op...

Re: Xfce status area in middle of panel -- how do I move it to right corner?

It looks as if you've accidentally removed the expanding Separator between the Window Buttons (the part of the panel which shows minimized windows) and the other icons to the right of that. Try right-clicking on the blank right-hand end of the panel and select Add New Items... Then highlight Separat...

Re: Mint 20: window unmaximize after hitting window top edge

It's weird and I don't know of any setting for this. However, even if there was a way to turn this unmaximizing off, you would still have the problem that the window would come away from the top of the screen. It's a fairly basic feature that dragging the title bar with the mouse (even accidentally!...

Re: [solved] gcolor2 in LM19 & LM20.

I agree. This thread is a welcome reminder about a useful little piece of software. It's one of the few things I always add on a new installation and we really shouldn't have to go searching the web for the deb file. I can't see why it was ever removed from Debian/Ubuntu/Mint repositories. They shou...

Re: [SOLVED] with Scribus / Print Lay-out Apps

I agree it's not very obvious. On the link in Andy's first post, I clicked on the coloured bar saying Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and then chose the first option amd64.deb to click through to another page on which the full link to the amd64.deb file is well hidden nearly halfway down (next to the words Binary ...

Re: Print Lay-out Apps

Hi, JTemple It seems from AndyMH's report that building a shiny new Photoprint from source is a non-starter. However, you may still be able to get the old version, which worked in LM19.3, to work in LM20. I haven't upgraded to Mint 20 yet but I do have a Live USB version of Mint 20 Xfce so I tried i...

Re: Volume control notification broken

I really don't know the answer but I was wondering if you have tried right-clicking on the volume icon in the panel, then in the PulseAudio Plugin properties try changing "Show notifications when volume changes" from off to on (or vice versa). Also in the main menu under Settings > Notifications > A...

Re: switch from Cinnamon to xfce

I assume by taskbar you mean the Xfce panel, which is usually horizontal at the bottom of the screen but can be changed to vertical in the Panel Preferences. You can then drag it to one side of the screen or the other. The thing to note about dragging the panel, however, is that you cannot just clic...
