I'm using 1920x1080, which is the recommended for my 1080p (TV) screen. The screen is 32 in.
Hmm... when I move GIMP to my secondary monitor, which is 1366x768, the cursor looks fine.
Tried a few different resolutions on my main screen. It gripes that the TV doesn't support the resolution.

GIMP tool cursor is huge on (very) low resolution screen
In Mint 20.1, the tool cursor in GIMP is absolutely huge. My regular cursor is regular size, no special settings. I've confirmed that this issue is specific to Cinnamon because 1) it persists under Ubuntu 21.04 with Cinnamon, and 2) the GIMP cursor size is normal if I run it under Ubuntu/Unity. How ...

Re: Mount external HDD stopped working
Huh. Last night I tried a reboot, which did nothing. But today, after spending some time in Windows, I again rebooted into Mint and the drive auto-mounted as normal.
Thanks, WharfRat. If (when?) this happens again I will try that mount command.

Mount external HDD stopped working
I have an external (USB) hard drive, format NTFS. It used to be the case that when I plugged in the drive, Mint would automatically recognize and mount it. I was copying a bunch of files to the drive via Nemo, and stopped the copy operation before it had finished. This seems to have unmounted the dr...

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /home/chellrose/sharepart This didn't do anything. It seemed to be cranking away at something, but at the end of the process, owner was still root. ... <SOLVED> Mount NTFS partition with me (not root) as owner
I have a NTFS partition that I use to access files from both Linux and Windows. During installation of Mint, in the partition editor, I set this partition to have a mount point of /home/chellrose/sharepart. Now the partition mounts beautifully upon startup... but with root as owner. I want to make c...

Re: Installing amdgpu-pro: "Not a directory" error
My primary monitor is a Sanyo TV, model no. FW40D36F. The resolution (which *should* be 1920 x 1080) has the display larger than the screen itself, so that the panel, window menus, etc. are not visible. It seems that the display is only about a title-bar's width too wide, though, as I can move the c...

Re: Installing amdgpu-pro: "Not a directory" error
Thank you. The commands you listed do give the proper output, so it looks like everything is good! Is there no way to change display resolution, monitor configuration, etc. (besides the default Mint utility, which isn't playing nicely with my primary monitor)? I don't mind using terminal commands if...

Re: Installing amdgpu-pro: "Not a directory" error
Huh. The first time I tried that, it gave a "#!/bin/bash not found" error. :? I deleted the directory, re-extracted it from the tarball, and ran your command again. It appears to have run this time... however, when it gets to the end, it gives this message: Processing triggers for libc-bin...

Re: Installing amdgpu-pro: "Not a directory" error
Thanks for replying. Regarding bash: I was getting "#!/bin/bash not found" errors when trying to install via the normal method. Removing the shebang line at the top of the install file and then using bash at the terminal is the only way I can get it to execute to any degree. I have made th...

<SOLVED> Installing amdgpu-pro: "Not a directory" error
I recently installed a Radeon RX570, and Mint 19. I am trying to install amdgpu-pro 18.40 using the suggestions in this post . Re: Samba drive access from Windows is very slow/erratic
Thanks. Additional info after more testing: On the Windows side, it looks like the share keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. The little symbol that shows connection keeps switching between red (disconnected) and green (connected). Rarely, if I catch it at a green instant, I can get into a subfolde...

Re: Removing executable permissions from text file on NTFS partition
I missed that option in Nemo. That fixed it, thank you!
I'm not terribly familiar with numerical permissions. Out of curiosity, does the fstab entry you gave remove executable permissions from *all* files in the partition (regardless of file type)?
Thanks again.

<SOLVED> Removing executable permissions from text file on NTFS partition
I'm using Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. I have an NTFS partition which I use to access files on both Linux and Windows. I have set this partition in fstab so that it mounts with owner and group "chellrose" rather than root. Some of the text files on this partition have executable permissions. Conseq...
