HP Envy x360 detect tablet mode

Hello everyone, I am trying to write a skript which disables my keyboard and touchpad when flipping my HP Envy x360 into tablet mode. However, I cannot seem to find a way to detect said change. I have tried these approaches https://github.com/alesguzik/linux_detect_tablet_mode https://bbs.archlinux....

HP Envy x360 slow on battery

Hello everyone, my HP Envy x360 runs a lot slower on battery then when the power supply is connected. I cannot find any setting affecting this in the power settings. My BIOS does not seem to have related settings either. Anybody got a clue as to why this would be happening / how to prevent it? Syste...

Re: Search for documents in menu

Hello everyone,

I ended up using albert (https://albertlauncher.github.io/), which fits my requirements and is even better than I had hoped. Thanks for the launcher suggestion. Marking this topic as SOLVED.

Re: Search for documents in menu

Thank you all for your suggestions. After experimenting with them the only one making it into consideration ist synapse, since the others either require extensive tabbing or the use of the mouse. Two problems with synapse: 1. I have to explicitly search after I'm done typing instead of getting sugge...

Re: Search for documents in menu

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly, this does not really meet my requirements. Mainly, I am looking for a workflow in which I enter one shortcut, have my cursor in a search bar, type my query and select the results with my keyboard. Using nemo I would have to open the search bar with two shortcuts (...

[SOLVED] Search for documents in menu

Hello everyone, in Windows 7 it was possible to to search for documents and their content from the menu. Is it possible to achieve something similar in Linux Mint 19.1? I'm not necessarily looking for an exact equivalent, but for the ability to open a search box via a shortcut, type the document nam...

Re: Nemo change bookmark icons

Hi Holly,

glad you found a solution. Could you elaborate on it? I don't see any entry there indicating the icon. Or can you just set icons for the default folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Sync, Videos)?

One possibility I can think of for your scenario is you have another user logged in. If you logged in as User1 then switched to User2, User2 can't shut down until User1 logs out.
I quickly tested this, but at least I can halt the system even if another user is logged in.

Re: Menu session button only shows logout

I wonder whether the --halt instruction is just ending the session? The links you posted suggest this and it is indeed what happens. However I want the button to shut down the computer completely. The links describe the --halt option to, well, halt. If I open a terminal on my system (Linux Mint 18....

Re: Menu session button only shows logout

Thanks, After entering the --halt the button still only logs out. Now at startup I have to start a new session. Try to open a Terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t or from the start menu) and enter "xfce4-session-logout" manually. What does that result in? If you want the button to simply shut down you could ob...

Open System Settings, look for your Video Cards Icon, click on it fix the screen resolution from there. https://s6.photobucket.com/user/palladini69/media/Video%20Card%20Settings_1.png.html The given link does not display a picture. Re: Menu session button only shows logout

The action for the logout button is set in the properties of the Whiskers Menu Open the context menu of the menu (click with the secondary mouse button on the menu) and select Properties. Switch to the Commands tab. In Log Out it should say "xfce4-session-logout", which should open the logout dialog...

Re: BUG: Picture aspect wrong with two screens

It's not necessarily a bug but it's hard to say with no system info whatsoever. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here: inxi -Fxz Added output to original post. As to the matter of it being a bug or not: Under which circumstances should the same setting create different...

BUG: Picture aspect wrong with two screens

EDIT: Added system information Hello everyone, I recently added another monitor ( 1280 x 1024; 5:4 ) to my setup ( 1920 x 1080; 16:9 ) and am observing a strange bug. I set Backgrounds -> Settings -> Picture aspect to zoom. But whenever I log in, the zoom on my main monitor is way too strong. I can ...

Do you mean changing all the Bookmark icons as a group - which is possible - or individual icons?
I would like to change specific icons - those of bookmarks I added myself. Right now they all get the same icon, which is not helpful for navigation.

Nemo change bookmark icons

Hello everyone, I am using custom bookmarks in nemo and would like to change their icons. However, neither the context menu of the bookmark nor Bookmarks -> Edit Bookmarks seem to contain a way to change it. I tried changing the icons of the folders themselves, but that did not have any effect. Gree...

That worked exactly as advertised! Thank you very much. I was even able to add a separator between preferences and the application-specific options.

Re: Reorder panel launcher order (right-click menu)

Edited the original post to include my version: Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon. In any case I suspect such a feature would slow the machine down more than you clicking the right item so there wouldn't be any point anyway really. Why would it slow the machine? The order it is in currently must be configured ...

SOLVED Reorder panel launcher order (right-click menu)

Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon Hello everyone, when I right-click on the panel launchers (e.g. Firefox), the applications-specific functions (e.g. Open a New Window, Open a New Private Window) are all the way on top, with the general functions (Launch, Add, Edit, Remove, Preferences) being closer to the tas...

It is not. And my wifi works flawlessly again. Thank you very much!

One question though: How do you know which driver I'm using?
