Re: Stuck at KDE Login screen - Infinite loop

Thanks for the idea, Igor. I think one of my machines resolved via the dist-upgrade, or something--I'm not sure exactly why the boot loop suddenly disappeared. On the first machine, I tried switching from kdm to lightdm, and voila, that machine happily autologs me in again.

Re: Stuck at KDE Login screen - Infinite loop

I can just drop to console and enter startx to get into the desktop.
Thanks for that suggestion, Igor. That did allow me to access my desktop. Now I'm just wondering how long I will just have to limp along like this. :|

Re: Stuck at KDE Login screen - Infinite loop

Thanks for your reply, anandrkris. But I tried that, and to no avail. And a second machine of mine now has the same problem, and it is not set for autologin. This has really shaken my confidence.

Re: Stuck at KDE Login screen - Infinite loop

I am running LM 14 KDE 64 bit. Until today, it has been near perfect. After today's updates, I cannot get past the KDE login screen. I have been able to log in using console, allowing me to try the above suggestions and others (creating a new account), but none of them have worked. And yes, I had au...

Printer invisible on lpt1 under LM 10

My computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61, and I have a HP LaserJet 6P attached to the parallel (lpt1) port of a Lenovo docking station. I have had zero problems configuring the printer with every release of Linux Mint, until now. On Tuesday I was printing under Linux Mint 9; on Wednesday, after installi...

Re: Used to have Sound - Just stopped working...

I had something like this occur on my Lenovo T61 Thinkpad. It turned out that one sound channel had muted itself. Here's roughly how I dealt with it: 1. Open a terminal and start alsamixer 2. Start something that makes sound (e.g., one of the "test" buttons on Menu/Preferences/Sound applet) 3. Get t...

Re: How to : upgrade JAVA Runtime Enviroment

I could not find the update 13 version of 64-bit sun-java6-bin in the community repo. Whenever I update, my update 10 version wants to uninstall itself because of that. Does anyone know what the plans are?

Re: Ubuntu Tweak

Unfortunately, I get a "this distribution isn't supported" error message on Felicia x64. :(

Edit: What I should have said is this:

Unfortunately, I get a "This feature isn't currently available in your distribution" error message whenever I select any of the "Application" sub-menus on Felicia x64.

Re: permission to install .bin pakage

What's in the community repo appears to be only the i386 version of sun-java6-bin. I am using the AMD64 version of Felicia, and now sun-java6 wants to uninstall itself during updates. Will the 64-bit version be made available in the repo sometime soon? Otherwise, I basically have to disable the comm...
