Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

In this thread on Qiana Mate RC , which has since been locked, several of us were wondering how to deal with the Level 5 Security Updates. The Update Manager says Level 5 updates are dangerous packages that can effect stability, but on the other hand, they are Security updates. I don't know whether...

I was looking for the same thing as you and I think Grub Customizer is your best bet for now.

Re: Configuration Files ' Keep or New'?

Here is a discussion from awhile back regarding whether to keep or replace Configuration Files; it still applies to Update Pack 4. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=202&t=57249&start=0&hilit=lmde+change+configuration+files+update Incidentally, I replaced the files up to /etc/gd...

Re: Trying to install k9copy

I hope this isn't considered hijacking, but I updated my LMDE with the Debian repositories before I read that I should wait until upgrade pack 3 comes out. This made it difficult to install k9copy when I pointed my repositories to LMDE. I solved this by temporarily pointing my security and multimedi...

Re: recent update about boot dependencies???

The culprit is: sysv-rc and three other packages "This package provides support for the System-V like system for booting, changing runlevels, and shutting down, configured through symbolic links in /etc/rc?.d/." I haven't heard any reviews of this at all, but I haven't actively been search...

Re: Desktop won't start on Helena LiveCD/DVD

Well, here's something rather odd - I never thought that changing my old monitor - a ViewSonic PF790 Color Monitor (CRT) - with a new NEC MultiSync EA231WMi monitor (LCD) would get rid of the flashing, no loading X problem, but it has! :? Now Helena boots on my old Dell as well... go figure... My sy...

Re: Dont show Firewire-Connection on DV-Cam

See info here for getting firewire up and running with Mint 7 and kino:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firewire

I tried it using the root method and it connected my Sony Handycam DCR-HC54 to firewire on my desktop.

Re: Desktop won't start on Helena LiveCD/DVD

Any solutions for AGP Geforce cards? I've been poking around the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305459 I even tried changing my AGP bios settings to no avail... I still can't get the desktop started on the LiveCD. :( I'm very happy with Mint 7 on this system and will most l...

Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread

An upstream bug that I had with ubuntu and edubuntu occurs with Mint 8 RC1. I've reported it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481152 Basically, the Live CD won't finish booting up into X and the screen starts flickering. I've never had a problem with my desktop and ubuntu/mint until 9.10/Helena...

Re: grub drive confusion

Are you able to control which drive boots up with the computer bios or a bootup menu (my Dell has this feature)? I do this because I get a Grub loading Error 2 message if I don't. It's a hassle but it works for me (maybe I'll post for help later - I almost ruined my NTFS filesystem trying to fix Gru...

I can live with that - may I suggest having the box checked by default to avoid problems for new users who normally leave check boxes as their defaults. :)

Re: Not including multimedia codecs by default in Mint8

what about the possibility of a "multimedia" edition which would be made in the same way as the current main release (i.e. simple renaming). And the "main" release which would install extra software goodies in place of the codecs, but have an easy-install option in the menu (and...

Current stable compat-wireless for kernels >= 2.6.27 (works with Linux Mint 7) at: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download/stable/ I did not need to add any extra apps for this to work. After building, installing, and loading (all explained at the above link), I no longer experience hardware free...

I like the idea of lighter than XFCE (which isn't that light on old machines) and full featured!
