Re: Two questions about Mozilla VPN?

Hello. I get where your coming from. I don't trust Mozilla on privacy stance. I'm aware that Mozilla isn't perfect on privacy, it's not that I have absolute trust in Mozilla, just that I trust them more than other actors in the VPN/browser space. What VPN and web browser would you recommend, as more...

Re: do I need compiz?

Hello. I've been using compiz for years. As a Linux user with some visual impairment, it absolutely used to be a necessity for me from an accessibility/universal access perspective. As the accessibility features native to the desktops supported by Mint have improved, it's become less of a necessity....

Re: How good & effective is Timeshift?

Timeshift in general is awesome, however, I did run into an issue once wherein I wanted to do an experiment with Wine, and took a timeshift snapshot beforehand. As expected, the experiment I was doing in Wine was a bad idea, but unexpectedly, rolling back with timeshift didn't purge the wine install...

Two questions about Mozilla VPN?

So, the Mozilla VPN now supports Linux. This leaves me with an interesting question. From the Mozilla website: The Mozilla VPN clients are compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit only), Mac (10.15 and up), Android (version 6 and up), iOS (13.0 and up), and Linux (Ubuntu-only). Question 1: Does that actua...

Small suggestion for when XFCE 4.16 is integrated with Mint

Hello. I'm a huge fan of the XFCE edition of Linux Mint. Thank you for continuing to support this version! I've been doing some testing in a virtual machine where I've manually upgraded Linux mint 20.1 XFCE to the 4.16 desktop. The current way I am testing this, through the, XubuntuDev/staging PPA, ...

Re: How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system? [Solved]

Hello. Sorry for not replying sooner. By Murphy's Law, I'm now having some power button issues with the laptop in question. I think it's just a matter of the power button not making a connection where it needs to, but I can't power up that specific laptop right now. I'll post back with troubleshooti...

Re: How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system? [Solved]

I got to the point where there was an active finish button that I was able to click, although it's possible I didn't give it enough time to reread the drives. How long would you expect that to take? My system drive is a 500 GB SSD that was about 40% full if that's helpful for reference. I didn't rea...

Re: Opinion XFCE vs Cinnamon

I also have a little bit of visual difficulty. Some of the features in the accessibility section of compiz really make things easier for me. Although I could probably switch back to xfwm now that that desktop zoom function is more reliable than it used to be. If you go the compiz route, there is a w...

Re: How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system?

So, I just finished a restore, and the foxclone GUI seemed to lock up after I clicked the finish button, but the restore itself seems to have worked flawlessly, in terms of being able to boot back into the restored system, and everything working correctly.

Re: Opinion XFCE vs Cinnamon

Hello. I've been doing some experimenting with various backup utilities, and since I had 3+ backups, I decided to experiment with manually installing XFCE 4.16 on my Linux mint 20 system. For what it's worth, here's my impression as a fan of the XFCE desktop in general. I'm not a fan of the client-s...

Re: How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system?

Here's an update on my adventures with backup utilities. 1. I was successfully able to install Systemback, and create a backup archive using the live environment function. However, I was unable to write the backup to a USB. 2. Foxclone definitely gets the points in the backup environment department....

Re: Opinion XFCE vs Cinnamon

Hello. I know the threat hasn't been active in a little bit, but it's one of the more informative comparison threads so I thought I'd add this here. Hopefully it will have been to the gym and lost some of the code bloat it gained in the transition phase to GTK+3 I just manually upgraded to XFCE 4.16...

Re: Mouse Not working

Hello. Not sure how challenging this would be given that your mouse already isn't working consistently. But have you tried running driver manager with the mouse connected to your system? Never had that sort of issue myself, but it might pull down the driver that you need. This is a weird note, but I...

Re: Security / password problems {SOLVED]

Hello. I saw this thread and thought this might be helpful. I used to also struggle with password management headaches as well, then I switched to using bitwarden. There is a flatpack available in the mint software center, and browser extensions for pretty much every browser. It makes it extremely e...

Re: How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system?

Thanks for all your great advice and suggestions. It's actually the MX ISO creation tools that sent me looking for something like that for Mint in the first place. It's still not clear to me exactly what their remaster tool does, but their backup utility does provide the options of creating a person...

How to make bootable/installable USB of current Linux mint system? [Solved]

Hello. I'm currently running Linux mint 20 with the XFCE desktop. It's by far my favorite operating system that I've ever run on hardware. Getting the system exactly how I wanted has taken a little bit of work, but now it's absolutely perfect! Now that everything is perfect, I would really like to c...

Re: Has anyone had luck running orca with LM 19.X XFCE?

As of this afternoon, the issue seems to be resolved. I'm not sure who to thank. But it's cool that I can install the latest version once I'm finally ready to ditch Windows 7.

Re: Has anyone had luck running orca with LM 19.X XFCE?

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the confusion, it's the orca screen reader that ships with the distribution. So thankfully there is no wine involved. There's an Orca bug in Linux Mint 19 onwards that shuts it off after 30 seconds. I would recommend MATE or GNOME for better accessibility too. Tha...

Re: how to change the title bar when using XFCE with compiz

I did finally figure out how to do this. It's fairly simple, but not straightforward. First, you have to make sure you have Metacity compatible window decorations installed. The easiest way to do this is to install the mate themes, but there are a few others out there. Then, you need to install Dcon...

[Solved] Has anyone had luck running orca with LM 19.X XFCE?

Hello, I've been experimenting with Linux for a while now, and really love Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop. On my Linux Mint XFCE 18.3 (currently installed alongside Windows 7) orca runs very nicely. However, when I test Linux Mint 19.1 XFCE in virtualbox, orca refuses to stay running for more than...
