Unable to Apply Security Updates

Re: VPN
I had installed the Windscribe cli which is in Beta and I'm finding that Windscribe runs at boot up and I'm not seeing any obvious setting in the cli to change that. I'd like to only use it when needed since the free version does have a 10 GB monthly limit and 99% of my Internet activity is innocuou...

Has anyone else switched to Cloudflare's DNS 1.1.1.1 ? Seems to be working well here. Any downsides I may not have discovered yet ?

Re: Firefox 59...when will it be available?
I spoke a little too soon about the Diagonal Screen Tearing issue with FF. It seemed to be better on my other Mint system but on this one is seems much worse. I'm typing this on Chromium and the tearing issue is not present. I've tried all the settings in FF 59.0.1 with no success...... :? EDIT: Sad...

Re: Firefox 59...when will it be available?
I just got the 59.0.1 update here and everything seems to be working well. Web audio plays just fine and the diagonal screen tearing issue seems to be much improved. No high CPU or Memory usage.

Re: Libreoffice does not update since v5.1.6
From the link above: "Note: I just realized that the LibreOffice Fresh PPA still doesn’t include version 6.0. I’ll update the article when I have news about it. For the moment, using the PPA won’t install LibreOffice 6.0". Did they just forget to update the text on that page ? I was going ...

Diagonal Screen Tearing in Firefox
Anybody else experience diagonal screen tearing when scrolling or watching videos in Firefox (58.02, Mint 18.3) ? I've tried to adjust settings in Firefox and looked for updated video drivers from within Mint. I don't remember this happening in Vivaldi but I've un-installed it so can't check again. ...

I don't actually remember getting a level 5 but I just included it to make the point that I have accepted every update that's been offered to Mint 18.3 on this system.

Re: What is Mint's current "official" recommendation about updates?
I have installed every update ever presented to 18.3 on this computer, level 1-5 and I've never had an issue. Perhaps I've just been lucky but I'll continue to do so.......

Re: How to Determine Meltdown & Spectre Vulnerability
If you installed the available security updates for your kernel, you have the fix for Meltdown. Thanks, that was what I assumed but just wanted to make sure. I update religiously and always accept all offered updates. Firefox 57.0.4 has mitigation in place so that websites can't use the Meltdown an...

Re: How to Determine Meltdown & Spectre Vulnerability
My question is has Linux Mint been updated to mitigate the vulnerabilities ? I use 18.3 and check for updates each day. I assume a patch has been released.

Same problem here with the gnome-keyring-daemon not closing on shut down. Seems like a fairly common issue. It only happens periodically here but on two different systems.

Yes the instructions were perfectly clear here and I'm no Linux expert. Sadly I'm still getting jumping icons. One boot everything will be fine, the next boot icons have moved around. Once all the non system icons changed size. Hopefully the bugs will get worked out in a soon to be released u...

Re: Firefox57.0.1 and Youtube?
I also use Chromium and that will load and play Youtube page and videos. Good, you eliminated your system as the possible cause and narrowed it down to Firefox. Proper procedure. :) I wonder what there is in common with the people who are having problems playing Youtube videos. Same Videocard/drive...

Re: Firefox57.0.1 and Youtube?
What would a Profile have to do with YouTube videos not playing ? Anyway the first thing I would do is try another Browser. The OP already said "I disabled all the extentions in an attempt to illiminate them one by one". So the next logical step would be to try another Browser. It's the on...

Re: Firefox57.0.1 and Youtube?
What about trying another Browser ? If the YouTube videos load in another browser that would point to an issue with Firefox. If they still don't load that would point more to a system issue. Worth a shot just to see.....
