/etc/hosts limitations
Hi Wondering regarding the hosts file. Are there any limitations in terms of lines or filesize? I've found some lists to block ads, trackers etc but they are tens of megabytes of text in total. Does it still make sense to use hosts file even if lists are this big? Or are there any other ways of hand...

CommandRunner
I've just found the CommandRunner Applet. Very useful applet I must say, but not sure how to customize it beyond just displaying text. Looking at the Applets page https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/226 I can see its possible to use things like borders, icons, different text sizes and...

Re: XScreensaver [Solved]
Thank you
If I figure something out, I'll update the thread.
Simple solution to use XScreensaver for ctrl+alt+L, just unhook the keybinding under settings for Keyboard / System / Lock screen, and add "xscreensaver-command -lock" to Custom Shortcuts with the same keybinding.
Cheers!

Re: XScreensaver
This was highly anticlimactic. I have no idea why, but all of the sudden Xscreensaver launches. I started it verbose again when I went to check the log as you showed, and it went off. Started the GUI and launched the daemon, tested it, and again it worked. I really have no idea why. Youtube (main pa...

Re: XScreensaver
By manually activating, do you mean activating it from the File menu / blank screen and lock screen? In that case, they both work as intended. No bumps, of that I'm sure. No video player running, or crashed still as running task. Hm... may be that was a bit outdated? $ xscreensaver --verbose xscreen...

Re: XScreensaver
1) Screensaver (Cinnamon) from the Mint-menu, turned all off (lock computer etc), and set it to start "never" 2) Installed Xscreensaver via the Software manager in the Mint-menu 3) Start Screensaver (Xscreensaver-demo) from Mint-menu. Program asks me to start the daemon. I start it. Set Lo...

Run on lock
Hi
Are there any way to simply trigger scripts to execute when mint is locked/unlocked?
I know dbus can be monitored and used, but wondering if there is any more streamlined functionality?

Re: crontab + php
Hi Welcome, thanks for your input. I don't think Kalarm would be suitable for my script. The script itself runs fine, its just the exec() syntax with nmcli which will not trigger properly via crontab, but perhaps this has to do with the environment issues you speak of. If anyone has any further inpu...

Hi
Is the update manager possible in Mint possible to install on a regular debian system though apt? If so, what is it called?

Re: Email clients
Hi Sorry if I was unclear. I mean, if I've got 15 emails of which are open and read, and are waiting to get responded to (some emails might take weeks to respond to for different reasons and I don't want them to get lost in the inbox among other mails) I want to be able to leave them opened, either ...

I've yet to find any email client which can remember opened emails when its re-launched after closing (besides Thunderbird). In case I've missed a setting or plugin, does anyone here know of any other email client which can remember what emails were open from last time it was running, besides Thunde...

Persistent VPN
Hi
Is there any way of making a VPN connection persistent to the extent that it completely blocks all traffic if no VPN connection is established (unless manually disconnected) ?

Since upgrading to 19.3
Hey Since upgrading yesterday I've encountered a bug in Cinnamon. Task bar (panel for running tasks) display a tool tip when hovered, with text and with thumbnail. Two tooltips have completely hung, and are just stuck on screen although only the text is stuck, not the thumbnail. Might there be any w...

Re: Crontab and xidle
Oh I see, then I misunderstood you. Thanks for clarifying, I'll give the autostart option a try.
Okay, video players reporting to X would explain it, because its not the same as xprintidle which I've played around with a bit. xprintidle only seem to check for keyboard and mouse input it seems.
