Re: Hello Cruel World!

You don't need to struggle with a tarball. Point your browser at https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads, Choose the Ubuntu v1.04 (and either 32 or 64 bit option), and download it to your computer. Click on open with gDebi and VB will be installed. If gDebi isn't installed, go to the Package...

Re: Automatic display of all hard drives on Desktop...

Because I could not resolve the problem of "frozen" unbootable computer returning an error that dmraid45 module could not be found, I did a completely new install and then sat back and did some thinking, to try and isolate the error and, at the same time, figure out, how to successfully mount my USB...

Re: Automatic display of all hard drives on Desktop...

Thank you AndyMH for spotting the error I missed in fstab. I subsequently amended it but still couldn't boot the computer into LMDE-3. Just got the same dmraid45 module error.
In desperation, I did a complete reinstall. See the following post.

Re: Automatic display of all hard drives on Desktop...

Thank you for your prompt response altair Curiously, on boot, I did not get an error message but when i went to the terminal and typed sudo mount I did. I did some investigating and found that the USB-HDD was mounted at /boot/efi. So I amended fstab to read # USB-HDD was on /boot/efi on install UUID...

As far as the video card goes, did you look at the documentation ? No, I hadn't read the documentation. My bad  However, see below. As far as apt-daily.service, according to this site the service shouldn't be run at boot and should be run some time later. Check the first answer for a workarou...
