Re: LinuxMint 19.1 and Windows 10 problem...

Cannot tell you how to correct this issue without making massive changes to the Win10 installation, which could result in data loss and breaking Win10. Yes, that's my fear, too. The owner has given me another HDD. If I fit this I presume it will appear as dev/sdb. If I install Linux Mint on this pa...

Modifying mp4 video files...

I have several .mp4 files where the music is too loud. So much so, in fact, that it is impossible to clearly hear the singer. Is it possible to modify the video by reducing the loudness of the music and retaining the volume of the vocals. All I have learned by searching the internet is that the musi...

Ride-on mower battery...

I have a John Deere L100 ride-on mower. The battery is showing 12.65 volts, but it will not start the mower. The battery terminals are clean. If I use another battery showing a similar voltage the mower starts without any trouble. Running the mower, once it has started, is no problem. I can even tur...

Firefox - downloading Youtube videos... (SOLVED)

Using Firefox v67.0 on LM v19.1 Tessa Mate. Until quite recently I have never had trouble downloading Youtube videos. Usually it is just a matter of clicking on the download button and selecting where to save the video. Two icons appear in the destination folder and when the download is completed we...

Re: Free Software vs. Freedom Software

Very interesting discussion. As an native English speaker one of my greatest regrets is not learning another language. I am in awe of the many people who are not English speakers natively, yet write lucidly on many subjects. If there was one gift I had the power to grant it would to be able to fluen...

Re: What is Win+Space for?

The Win + (I forget the other key) is the default shortcut to open the Menu. As I use the Win key + (something else) for all my keyboard shortcuts, I redefined the shortcut key for opening the Menu by using the key on the bottom of the keyboard - the one between Alt and Ctrl. To redefine the shortcu...

Re: Compose Key Issues - Alt+0150 doesn't work.

I don't use a Compose key but rely upon holding down Ctrl+Shift+U then releasing and typing the code. In the example you give I get what is described as Latin Capital O with Double acute.

I cannot repeat it on this forum page.

Re: authenticating?

Hi Millipede, This may not be looked upon by the purists as the thing to do, but as long as you have downloaded LinuxMint from the official source and received no errors when burning it to a DVD or USB stick, it should boot and run on your computer. If it doesn't you haven't lost anything by trying....
