Re: Linux Mint 19 logo at startup disappeared after kernel update

Yes, I will try to replace it soon. Those battery troubles only started recently and I have fear of messing up my computer hardware when I have to open it, through accidental static electricity or some other stupidity of mine. I am not very handy with these kind of things, but I have read it is not ...

Re: Do you I think I have made a big mistake by buying a 720p TV ?

I guess you cant return it back to the store any more? You could always ask if it's a local store. Even with internet purchases in most countries you can return your purchase within 2 weeks. But if you cant return it any more and the picture quality is good, I shouldnt worry to much about your tv be...

Re: No display after boot, following recent updates

Your tv display worked correctly when you used a Live Usb LM19.2 in a test, so we can rule out any possible hardware defects of your tv display or of your HDMI cable. So it must be OS related. And more specifically update related, since your problems started right after some regular software updates...

Re: No display after boot, following recent updates

I have experienced myself recently that the LinuxMint logo has disappeared after upgrading to kernel 58. I have a dark screen (with a red dotted line) during boot now, while before I could see the LinuxMint logo. But after boot my LinuxMint19 OS still works fine. Does your OS still work correctly af...

Re: Linux Mint 19 logo at startup disappeared after kernel update

Thanks a lot for all those detailed information Karlchen! I have started my 10 year old computer and below is what I have experienced. The reported behaviour here occurs only on computers having onboard Intel graphics chips. I do have Nvidia, but I use Nouveau drivers, because Nvidia gives massive p...

Re: Could not download all repository indexes

In Menu , select Administration / Software Sources . Enter password. In the main screentab called Official Repositories you can (temporarily) change the mirrors from which you are normally downloading the updates. Change the base mirror and the main mirror (temporarily) to an alternative fast mirror...

Re: Linux Mint 19 logo at startup disappeared after kernel update

I see a similar behaviour on Xubuntu 18.04.3. But only during the first startup after a kernel update. During shutdown and on second reboot (and further reboots) the normal plymouth screen (Xubuntu splash screen in this case) will be displayed again. carum carvi, has it happened only once or has it...

Linux Mint 19 logo at startup disappeared after kernel update

I am using LM19 Cinnamon and my beloved LinuxMint logo has disappeared during startup after the latest kernel update to 4.15.0-58 Startup shows a black screen now, with a dotted long red line across the screen and the LinuxMint logo only flashes 2 times on the screen very quickly, in less than a sec...

Re: No display after boot, following recent updates

wtwt, welcome to the LinuxMint forum, Upgrading to LM19.2 would be my advice, since you experienced that your display does work with a live LM19.2 usb. Below is a helpful link how to upgrade: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3792 Downgrading to an older kernel, which deepakdesp already suggested, would...

The title of this post immediately refreshed my memory about another bird from the past: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZw35VUBdzo Silly, but so enjoyable silly. To go back to the topic of craftsmanship: 3d printers are most likely to destroy the last craftsmen on earth. More basic skilled sort of...

Re: Disable Nemo Expandable Folders

Well, that is a pretty specific request which I hope you will find a solution for, but the Compact View method is the best option I can think of. Perhaps someone else has a tweak that will help you out.

Re: Disable Nemo Expandable Folders

Ok I understand.

If you select Compact View in the top right corner of any Nemo window, then those dropdown menus will disappear.

You can choose to always use Compact View in every folder by selecting:
Nemo / Edit / Preferences / Views and then select: "View new folders using": Compact View.

Re: Disable Nemo Expandable Folders

I am a bit puzzled by what you mean by "dropdown" menu, but if you wish to alter Nemo settings then Open Nemo. Select Edit. Select Preferences. And in the submenu of View and Display many options are available on what is shown and HOW it is shown when you open a folder in Nemo.

Very interesting article Lsemmens. Keeps me wide awake of ALL the vulnerabilities attached to working with computers. Looks like an extension problem. I found this thread by googling it and there are a few suggestions. http://www.computips.org/remove-yahoo-search-from-mac/ Now I understand HOW it could happen. Quite a nasty trick. In my Windows years, when I was used to install ANY software program without thinkin...

I was referring to seeing the asterisks (*), not the actual password, just to know if at least you're typing something. Currently, it seems you can't even select the box with the mouse, looks like the system is locked, but as I said it worked somehow). Oh, I understand your complaint better now. Ye...
