Re: Can all Linux computers still be hacked in 10 seconds via "mousejacking"?

I have yet to read any founded arguments against my question about this perceived security problem. I really think this could still be a serious problem. But I thought this forum would be a good place to find counter arguments, which I havent read sofar... A rootkit can be installed in 10 seconds IF...

Can all Linux computers still be hacked in 10 seconds via "mousejacking"?

Research from 2016 showed everybody that any computer could be hacked in 10 seconds from 250 feet away (80 metres) via an UNencrypted wireless mouse. I only recently read about that research from 2016. Have things changed since then? If not, are many mouses, and are therefore many Linux computers, s...

Re: Who can help where to find a wired mouse, which cord doesnt get entangled?

Just came back from the multi media store, THE biggest in town. Guess what? No wired mouses available. None! Well, there was one sad microsoft basic mouse with a wire, but that doesnt count ofcourse. I couldnt find a trackball mouse either, not one with a wire anyway... I guess that means I have to ...

Entanglement rate equals the square of the length of cable times the age of the user
En = L2 x Ua
They should start teaching such mathematical insights at schools!

Have you tried tying up the cable to make it shorter?
Unfortunately it has to be long... :(

They reacted quickly at Firefox releasing this .1 release so soon after the 66.0 release.
I feel secure again. I love that word " secure", feels like I am in a James Bond movie: "is this line secure?"

Thanks a lot everyone, you gave me some new good ideas. Heard about some stuff I would have never thought of myself. What a great help this forum is! I am gonna buy my mouse and keyboard tommorow, so I have to make a quick decision what to buy. I use a JamesDonkey mouse, purchased at Banggood severa...

Re: Big frustration: where can I find a wired mouse which cord doesnt get entangled?

I've never really had a problem with that, and my current desk more-or-less precludes the possibility. Portreve I am a bit surprised that you dont recongnize the problem. Fortunate for you ofcourse, but I use Logitech mouses as well (M100) but those are the cheaper Logitech mouses I buy. Maybe it's...

Re: Big frustration: where can I find a wired mouse which cord doesnt get entangled?

I got so frustrated with it all that I went back to having a corded mouse (the Logitech m500)... Portreve, does the Logitech M500 mouse cord get entangled? Any tips HOW to avoid the entangling of a cord mouse? Catweazel, I did cheer to soon. I searched the google "tangle free mouse" results, but I ...

Re: When do we get Firefox 66.0.1?

Of course, we users should be worried if any browser is affected by a number of security vulnerabilities, no matter how many security vulnerabilities have been fixed in the most recent version, published every 6 to 8 weeks. This strongly suggests that at the time being secure software may be an ill...

Thank you Catweazel, you really made my day. These mousecords have been such a big frustration for me for years! Who can help where to find a wired mouse, which cord doesnt get entangled?

Recently discovered the meaning of "mousejacking", a security flaw in many wireless mouses, which can be hijacked from a distance of 250 feet ( 80-90metres) within 10 seconds. This is old news (2016) by the way, I only read about it recently for the first time. I choose to use a wireless mouse howev...

Thanks Catweazel! I overlooked that link, thought it only was about Firefox 66.01, but it also mentions 2 security issues in the current Firefox 66.0. I guess it is normal that there are always/often critical securtiy problems present in any browser version. No need to worry, but I did anyway becaus...

Re: What are your favorite movies?

I recently watched "Roma" from three times oscar winning director Alfonso Cuaron. Nothing much happens in "Roma"at the first hour and a half, it has a fragile, slowburning pace that is not of this time, yet it is still incredibly mesmirising and beautiful from beginning to end. The still shots of so...

Thanks for that link norm.h ! That link describes my problem exactly. Great. Vlc Mediaplayer has given me some troubles some months ago as well, when I made changes in another program. I love Vlc Mediaplayer, but Vlc software seems to get out of balance fairly easily due to changes in standard softw...

[SOLVED] I click on the trash can symbol and Vlc Mediaplayer opens instead (with an error)

I have a trash can symbol in my taskbar. But when I click on it, instead of opening the trash can, it suddenly opens Vlc Mediaplayer with an error: "your input cant be opened". What is also suddenly changed is that when I attach a usb or harddisc Vlc mediaplayer automatically starts playing all the ...

Slowpoke47, you might really wanna reconsider your plans to use Windows7 indefinitely, as you said earlier. https://betanews.com/2019/03/08/windows-7-zero-google-recommendation/ Windows security updates will stop in 2020 as far as I know. With that recent zero day Google Chrome I wouldnt wanna live ...

Re: standby mode works not right

Another thought came to mind. Maybe there is a process still running, that prevents your pc from going into sleep/pause mode. This process could have been stopped when you login, but somehow gets activated afterwards and prevents your pc from going into sleep mode. You could open "System Monitor" an...

Re: Moved from 10 year old to 6 year old computer. From dual to quad core. No noticeable difference in speed.

Does an SSD increase the general speed of opening a browser or the speed with wchich a menu opens? First time? Tremendously. After that code that is to be loaded from disc for any such action will generally be cached in RAM and RAM is still faster than SSD anyway ...you will notice SSD over HDD tre...
