Re: [Solved] Boot partition is full

I used to come back to a sign in as user when I came back from suspend. Now I get a black screen - nothing. I have to reboot every time. My current desktop is then gone.

Re: [Solved] Boot partition is full

I too had my boot sector get too full. It happened after I used the update manager. I got the warning boot disc full. When I tried to reboot I got a kernel panic string. I found I could boot using an old kernel. I pasted the recommended string to the terminal and ran it and it appears to have remov...

Found it. Thanks. Upgrade in progress.

Sorry if I have been confusing to people, but I'm sure you understand that newbies don't quite have all the lingo right. I'll work on that.

Re: LM 18.1

@rlslemmer , Look in the Mint Update Manager's menubar , and you will find "Upgrade to Mint 18.1" or something similar. You do not have to download anything. The Update Manager will do everything for you ! :-) "Upgrade to Mint 18.1" was not in the list for the Upgrade Manager. There was a Firefox u...

Re: LM 18.1

.iso files were not meant to be "opened." They were meant to be booted from and installed. Burn the .iso "as image" to a DVD or USB stick. Boot from it. Click the Install button on the desktop. What you just said is totally Greek to me. I don't know what burn an .iso image means or how to do that.

Re: LM 18.1

So really? I have to read a 54 page PDF in order to figure out how to install an update? You've got to be kidding me! Or I have gotten myself into a sick and stupid mess by choosing Linux over Windows? Give me a break! Automatic updates are the thing nowadays. I'm lazy and stupid, I admit, but the g...

Mouse scroll speed

I am a total newbie to Linux Mint. Mouse scroll speed was the first problem I noticed when I started using LM, and the first I have still failed to solve. There is nothing in the mouse settings that even mentions the mouse wheel. :( My mouse wheel does actually work., but it takes 5 or 6 turns to mo...

Linux Mint 18 is based on GTK3. Mousewheel doesn't work for GTK applicacions like gedit and all admin panels. Thank you for this information. But I am a total newbie to Linux Mint. This was the first problem I noticed when I started using LM, and the first I have still failed to solve. There is not...

Re: I accidentally deleted my bottom panel

You must be more precise in what you are doing. Example: This is what I get: roger@roger-TravelMate-P245-M ~ $ mate-panel -^-^reset You inserted 2 spaces, which I replaced here for reference with the sign ^ , which did not exist in the original advice. With such failures no terminal command can wor...

Re: I accidentally deleted my bottom panel

chrisuk wrote:Hold ALT key and press F2 - type mate-terminal. In the window that opens type mate-panel --reset.

This is what I get:

roger@roger-TravelMate-P245-M ~ $ mate-panel - - reset
Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running.

Do I need to delete the panel I attempted to create?

Re: I accidentally deleted my bottom panel

@Cosmo. - He doesn't have a panel ! Right. So: Press super-L (this opens the Cinnamon Debugger) click "Actions" (at the bottom right) and select to reset Cinnamon. What or where is super-L? You will be lost if you try to use a Cinnamon solution on the Mate desktop. Run this command to check ...

Press Ctrl+Alt+t to open a terminal. In the terminal enter cinnamon-settings panel Then: "Add Panel" EDIT: corrected command to cinnamon-settings panel roger@roger-TravelMate-P245-M ~ $ cinnamon-settings panel The program 'cinnamon-settings' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:...
