Re: I regret my installation of Linux Mint. How should I go about trying again?

Do you know what brand wireless adapter is in your laptop? I have two HP Pavilion laptops, both of which have Realtek wireless adapters. I found out when I was running Ubuntu that Realtek doesn't support drivers for Linux (at least Debian-based distros) and neither the Ubuntu nor the Mint loads I ha...

Re: 13 Most Promising New Linux Distributions to Look Forward in 2019

Can someone please explain why Mint is a beginner's distro???. Because is works? Sorry, but this moniker really bugs me. There is absolutely nothing I can't do on Mint that's blocked because it's for "beginners". Been using Linux since RedHat 6.2 at the turn of the century, and Mint is far and away...

Re: Brave browser...big big sigh... (also in the news: IceCat rocks;)

I loaded Brave when I was using Ubuntu. I honestly used FireFox more, but didn't really find any fault with Brave. I think I will load it back up on my new Mint install. I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, so what they are doing doesn't affect me. Sorry to be "that guy". But I am all about t...

Re: I said good bye to my dual boot system

I too started out with a dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu. Didn't take me long to reload Ubuntu to completely remove Windows from that laptop. Then just yesterday I loaded Mint and got rid of Ubuntu. Yeah, Mint may be based on Ubuntu, but I like the Mint DE better. So far, so good!

Re: I'm out of patience.

I have always been a Windows baby, ever since 3.1. I am in the military and our networks have always been mostly Windows-based, with a few systems running Linux (RedHat). Back in 2017 I became ever more interested in Linux. I attribute this mostly to the virtual labs I did while getting my M.S. in C...

Re: Name that Movie

Here's another one I think should be fairly easy for SciFi fans. That's the first hint. "So I said to the customer: 'Did you trying turning it off then turning it back on again?'" (Anyone who has spent time on a help desk will probably have used that line before. ) "Just what do you think you'...

Re: Observations on life

Hattiesburg? My sister lives there. Well, she lives in Petal now actually. I was born and raised in McComb and spent the last couple of years of my childhood in Vicksburg. Went to New Orleans several times pre-Katrina. Only once since.

Re: Download speeds

I have Cox cable, because that is the only provider currently servicing my neighborhood. I have the 300Mb/s plan. I have been rather salty lately because I have used websites and apps which check download speeds and the best I have gotten on either has been around 30 - 37. So I wonder if, as mention...

I live in the Southeastern Virginia area known as Hampton Roads, which consists of seven cities. Here, our roads have bridges, tunnels, pot holes and tolls. Our weather forecast? Maybe it will rain. Or maybe not.

Re: Linux antivirus story and question.

Cool story. I think there is a possibility that something happened. Remember, the 90's were the Wild West days of the Interwebs. Online chat rooms were a great forum for script kiddies and wannabe hackers to wreak havoc. Fun times!

I love the Marx Brothers! Every bit as funny as the Three Stooges, but with much more adult humor.

I don't have time to read through all 93 pages to see if this one has been posted yet, but here is a rather easy one: A few quotes: "You mess with the bulls, you get the horns." "Does Barry Manilow know you raided his wardrobe?" And several years before Bart Simpson said it... "Eat... my... shorts."

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I used MySpace for a little while way back in 2005. Got rid of it when it started getting overran with tweens and bots. I used FB for a little while also back when it first moved off Harvard's campus and became open to the public (who remembers the wall flair?). I lost interest in it quickly after t...

Re: Ubuntu won't use WiFi on my laptop under VB

Have you tried it with VMWare? I have several distros running in VMWare on my Win10 laptop and they all use the wireless just fine.
