Re: Name that Movie

Here's another one I think should be fairly easy for SciFi fans. That's the first hint. "So I said to the customer: 'Did you trying turning it off then turning it back on again?'" (Anyone who has spent time on a help desk will probably have used that line before. ) "Just what do you think you'...

Re: Observations on life

Hattiesburg? My sister lives there. Well, she lives in Petal now actually. I was born and raised in McComb and spent the last couple of years of my childhood in Vicksburg. Went to New Orleans several times pre-Katrina. Only once since.

Re: Download speeds

I have Cox cable, because that is the only provider currently servicing my neighborhood. I have the 300Mb/s plan. I have been rather salty lately because I have used websites and apps which check download speeds and the best I have gotten on either has been around 30 - 37. So I wonder if, as mention...

Re: Observations on life

I live in the Southeastern Virginia area known as Hampton Roads, which consists of seven cities. Here, our roads have bridges, tunnels, pot holes and tolls. Our weather forecast? Maybe it will rain. Or maybe not.

Re: Linux antivirus story and question.

Cool story. I think there is a possibility that something happened. Remember, the 90's were the Wild West days of the Interwebs. Online chat rooms were a great forum for script kiddies and wannabe hackers to wreak havoc. Fun times!

I love the Marx Brothers! Every bit as funny as the Three Stooges, but with much more adult humor.

Love that song! You could always count on John Hughes films having great soundtracks.

Re: Name that Movie

I don't have time to read through all 93 pages to see if this one has been posted yet, but here is a rather easy one: A few quotes: "You mess with the bulls, you get the horns." "Does Barry Manilow know you raided his wardrobe?" And several years before Bart Simpson said it... "Eat... my... shorts."

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I used MySpace for a little while way back in 2005. Got rid of it when it started getting overran with tweens and bots. I used FB for a little while also back when it first moved off Harvard's campus and became open to the public (who remembers the wall flair?). I lost interest in it quickly after t...

Have you tried it with VMWare? I have several distros running in VMWare on my Win10 laptop and they all use the wireless just fine.

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I stopped using Facebook about 8 years ago or so. Even still, during the pursuit of my Master's degree in Cybersecurity, I learned well before the Cambridge Analytica shenanigans that Facebook couldn't be trusted to protect your privacy. I'm glad that scandal broke, but the truth of the matter is th...

Re: Who no longer uses Windows?

I still use my Win10 laptop a bit. I do have another laptop with dual boot Win 10 and Ubuntu. Then on my main Win10 laptop I have Mint, Parrot, Anarchy, Debian, Kali, Tails, and Fedora in VMs. Eventually I am going to load over the Win10 partition on my Linux machine. I like Ubuntu, but I like Mint ...

Re: Microsoft announced that it brought the famous Kali Linux!!

We all know Microsoft has a strangle hold on the PC market that they will never relinquish. I learned a harsh lesson last week that, like it or not, Microsoft Office is king when it comes to Office-type software. I wrote a paper for my Capstone class and I used Libre (which I absolutely LOVE!) on my...

Re: Whats your opinion about using Raspberry Pi as your daily driver ?

I have a Pi2. I like it, but I would never rely on it as a daily driver. I think the best thing about it, other than its small size, is that it is a great learning tool for kids and a great device for newbies to learn a bit about Linux. I think using it for some minor daily driving duties, such as w...

Re: Net Neutrality

Thanks for the reply. I agree, there are plenty of sites out there that give factual information. The problem is, and the original point I was trying to make, is that far too many people DO NOT USE THEM. They simply participate in group-think and if someone says "Net neutrality good... repeal bad" ...

Re: Net Neutrality

I won't pretend to know why the big ISPs lobbied so hard for it. I can only assume that it was for the very same reason any other big company lobbies for anything... $$$. Of course there is always the threat that ISPs will jack up the costs for users. But there's just as much of a possibility that ...

Re: Very serious Lenovo (firmware?) bug...

I've steered clear of Lenovo products after it was discovered many of their products were coming prepackaged with known Malware. I almost bought a Lenovo laptop yesterday with the mindset that the Malware wouldn't be an issue since I would be installing Mint. Now, after reading this thread, I think ...

Re: Net Neutrality

This whole net neutrality argument has really shown group-think in motion, especially among many of the left-leaning "news" articles and comment sections (just stating the facts based on what I have read in the news... not trying to be political or anything  ). Most of those against repeal...
