Re: How is linux kernel 5 on linux mint?

trytip,

Thanks. However:
  • I wasn't sure which files I needed - do I need the 'all' package, and other packages?
    • crappy old Gdebi had problems with the packages;
      • installing the packages in terminal, using sudo dpkg -i *.deb gave various errors.
      I think I'll just wait to Ukuu to catch up.

@gm10

I don't think I have ever tried your version of the Update Manager!

Re: How is linux kernel 5 on linux mint?

Here is a somewhat unsystematic answer to your question. I'm running a 5.1 kernel, via the (paid) version of the Ubuntu Kernel Update Utility. (The kernel I have is not the very latest stable version, because 'UKUU' had trouble installing that.) I find that it works fine. I would advise installing a...

Re: Qt App HiDPI Scaling in Cinnamon

OK; I think I've got the cron version working, i.e. can make the computer run the fix every so-many minutes. It's a bit involved, though; post here if you want the details.

Re: Qt App HiDPI Scaling in Cinnamon

I have a solution to this. 1) Appending the following to `/etc/profile`: # ** To theme QT apps ** QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct unset QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE 2) Optionally, install qt5ct via `sudo apt install qt5ct`, run it via `qt5ct` in terminal or by using e.g. MintMenu to find 'Qt5 settings'. Then play a...

Does Mint 19.1 support secure boot (out of the box)?

My Mint installation will not boot if 'secure boot' is enabled in my BIOS. I am unsure that this has always been the case; I think I may have messed things up somehow. So has it always been the case? That is, does Mint 19.1 support secure boot? I do not mean: does Mint support secure boot after one ...

Re: [Pending] Tons of NetworkManager Warnings

gm10 (for indeed it was you) Thank you very much. I was ready to follow your admirable instructions until I got to the last part. :) Given that I'd need to remember I did this - along with all the other hacks I've done - and given that I have a workaround (a different way of my scripts doing what th...

Re: [Pending] Tons of NetworkManager Warnings

Thanks emoxam I would be interested in the repositories you mention, because the original problem is not just - given what I do on my system, anyway - log spam. Rather, I have had to modify some of my scripts, because the problem disallows their querying network status in a certain way. However, usi...

Re: Why does Linux Mint work when others don't?

Ubuntu put a lot of work into having wide hardware support and Mint is based on Ubuntu. However, I have found that Mint worked on hardware that Ubuntu did not . . I found that Antergos worked well on some hardware that other Linux distros, inckuding and perhaps especially Debian, had trouble with. (...

Re: Mint 19.1: screensaver has stopped working

Solved. Solution: I located

Code: Select all

~.local/share/applications
- a folder that does not exist on a clean Mint 19.1 installation - deleted the whole folder, and rebooted.

Mint 19.1: screensaver has stopped working

Here is a bug report I am thinking of filing against Cinnamon. I thought that I should check here for advice first, though. ``` * Cinnamon-Screensaver version (cinnamon-screensaver --version): 4.0.3. * Distribution - (Mint 17.2, Arch, Fedora 25, etc...) Mint 19.1 * Graphics hardware *and* driver use...

Mint 19 Cinnamon: Wine menus have disappeared

I am some other people have this problem having upgraded (via an in-place upgrade, at least on my part) to Mint 19 Cinnamon. .exe files do not run via Wine by default, there are no Wine menus in the MintMenu and Nemo's 'open with' has no wine option. However, the underlying Wine functionality is sti...

Re: LTS 4.9 Kernel

I don't have an answer, though I'd like to hear one. I can tell you that there are ways of installing any version of the kernel on Mint; a websearch should show how (and I recall that Reddit had some stuff on this). However, I wouldn't recommend installing anything in such a manual, somewhat hacky w...

Re: VPN

Mullvad - has good support - has very good anonymity - is cheap - has good speeds (if you go for a local server) - is light on system resources, even on an old processor - does not always work well with the GUI Mullvad supplies - works well with OpenVPN (as an alternative to the GUI) but there's a ...

Re: Update of network-manager (1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) causes DNS leaks in VPN (WORKAROUND)

xenopeek, and all:

Anyone know when the network-manager will be fixed? It's been a while now, and I'd like to upgrade (to solve other network-manager problems, and just so that I can forget about it and take the package off hold). I don't fancy trying the work-arounds.

Thanks.
