Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

Started my Linux journey a year ago with Linux Mint, and then I started trying other distros to see what was out there. I tried a lot, and liked certain features with certain distros but was never really happy overall. Same here. Linux Mint is most balansed desktop distro. Reliability + usability. ...

Started my Linux journey a year ago with Linux Mint, and then I started trying other distros to see what was out there. I tried a lot, and liked certain features with certain distros but was never really happy overall. So, I'm back with Mint (something I actually enjoy using), and intend on staying ...

Re: [SOLVED]From Dual Boot to Single Boot

I was hoping that VirtualBox could run Windows well enough to finally wipe it away because right now it's just taking up space on my HDD. It would take space on your hard drive anyways in a .vdi (virtual disk image) file. Btw VirtualBox can start another OS on the hard drive. My initial concern was...

Re: Anyone using DuckDuckGo...

DuckDuckGo doesn't seem to find what I'm looking for all the time, and something tells me it builds part of its results from Bing's search, but the !bang system is definitely an innovative idea and I like it. Unfortunately this has been my experience as well. I wish that the search results of DuckD...

Re: [SOLVED]From Dual Boot to Single Boot

With VirtualBox I no longer see a need for dual boot. If you no longer have the keys for your Windows OS you can download an image to do "development and testing" directly from Microsoft for everything from Windows 7 through 10. Import the image into VirtualBox and voila! There are still a few comm...

18.1 (the only version I've used thus far) has a ton of screensavers. My personal favorite is Pac Man. Sometimes I watch that more than I use the computer :) .

Cosmo. wrote:Thunderbird 52.1.1 has just been arrived in the Ubuntu repositories (found in Mint 18.1). It took definitely far too much time, but the case should be closed now with this.
Working now.

Thanks for the update!

Re: Thunderbird - Unable add google account

I've experienced the same thing. I have 2FA on my account, and when TB takes me to the Google Log In, the screen won't allow me to proceed past my email address to login and verify. So, I'm using Evolution instead (not a bad option, but not TB either). However, I did have to go to Google and get an ...

Re: I'm impressed with Linux Mint

I agree. I installed Linux Mint a few weeks back (and also dabbled with other distros). I've found Mint to be the best not only as a crossover to Linux for those who are new to the platform, but as a great everyday OS.

There's a reason it's been #1 on Distrowatch for a while.

...to just live? I don't think this will work, there's too many emotive issues involved in this topic; hopefully, we can stay off of the obvious subjects that will get he thread closed (Religion and Animal Welfare), but I know it won't be easy ;) So, we need Medicines and Medical Treatments, but wh...

Re: From Dual Boot to Single Boot

Deactivate Windows before deleting it, if you decide so. You might need it again in a virtual machine. Thanks! I hadn't thought about that. Needless to say, but this also applies to any licensed software in Windows. In addition, it's a good idea to log out of Chrome, Firefox and all websites too. T...

Re: Evil idea- Linux Win 10 theme....

EVIL PLAN 1. Create Linux Theme with visuals as close to possible as Windows 10. (Having said that, for the intended audience a Win 10 background might be enough  ) Friends don't let friends install Windows  As has been said, there are some decent Windows themes that might help transitio...

Re: native Linux users

Perhaps in the future there will be native Linux users exploring windows os?
Why would they?
Some hard core gamers won't give up Windows. Windows is a corporate and commercial giant and many jobs require experience using their OS, MS Office, etc.

Re: Mint for life

Being a new Linux user myself, my first Linux install was Mint Cinnamon. I did some research before installing it, and I've tried some other distros that appealed to me, but Mint just has all of what I'm looking for. I think it is a good overall, well-rounded distro which I plan on sticking with.

Re: [SOLVED]Mint Box Mini Pro

I hadn't heard of the Mint Box until I saw your post - it does look pretty intriguing. However, I'm going to echo the comments of others who suggest less expensive options. For instance, I recently bought a used Dell Latitude 4310 off of Amazon for a little over $100 USD and Mint runs great on it. I...

Re: From Dual Boot to Single Boot

Thanks all for your comments! Your responses were along the lines of what I had been thinking, but I always like to get some feedback before making decisions like this. I don't have MS Office installed or anything really important (I had been using OSX for a while and then had a Chrome OS box for th...

[SOLVED]From Dual Boot to Single Boot

Has anyone gone from a dual boot to a Mint only box? I'm really liking Linux Mint which I currently have it installed on a Win 7 Pro machine, but I've found that I really haven't been using Windows much and I also have a concern with privacy and security. While I haven't wiped my drive clean and run...
