Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint?

Thank you! And, I totally missed you made a package. Thank you again. I was wrapped up in the code and trying to connect the dots I missed it. Linux has progressed so far with the desktops and prepackaged stuff I feel some of the new users will miss out on CL stuff. I try to play around with the CL ...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

No link. It is included in my MX install. Found it by accident. Been using MX for 5 months on my main machine and I keep finding new stuff. Just keep using it then. In a terminal window: mkdir ~/.local/bin wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/antiX-Linux/advert-block-antix/master/block-advert.sh ...

Re: Has anyone played around with MX Linux?

I haven't used Mint in years. I have nothing against it (what's not to like?) but I've moved on. I've been using MX Linux as my main OS for quite some time. I think it was back around MX-15 or 16. It just keeps getting better and better. I've found nothing to compare with it from my viewpoint. It's...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

if you want to learn something, learn how to make your own hosts file, then you have no worries about creating a .deb package IMPORTANT: people trying this in mint will not work unless you know what this means. look inside https://github.com/antiX-Linux/advert-block-antix/blob/master/advert-block.d...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

I know, but I just cannot stand the attitude: "You gave me A for free, but I wanted B, so you suck". It's just nasty. Anyway: If the OP (ME) knew how to build a .deb package from source code I never would have made my post. Github is a mess for guys like me due to the lack of clear instructions. Ye...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

Girls, girls....can't we all just get along? Poor etiquette to bicker on a thread where someone (ME) is seeking help! That being said, thank you to BOTH of you. GM10 thanks for the succinct, clear instructions. Flemur thanks for all the additional information. It helps. If the OP (ME) knew how to bu...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

FWIW, your hosts file has 57,086 lines and the antix file has 156,827 lines....I dunno if that's good, bad or neither. sure i can add more, i find that sometimes less is more :D but have't looked over the antix hosts to compare, is there a link to it? also my list is both ipv4 and ipv6 is antix ahe...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

I have MX on one of my machines and stumbled across adblock in the applications. Basically is updates and modifies the hosts file to block ads at the system level. I have searched and can't find anything equivalent for Mint. Anybody using an adblocker w the host file? I know I can manually edit/cop...

Re: Antix Advert Block for Mint??

updating hosts file automatically is tricky but i guess if you are just using it generically you can let the system do it for you. here is my file /etc/hosts backup yours and extract mine if you wish hosts_10_03_19.tar.gz this list includes : https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ http://winhelp2002.mv...

Re: Has anyone played around with MX Linux?

I tried using MX Linux off of thumb drive about a year ago. Tried to follow directions but was confusing. Couldn't make it persistent on the the (32GIG) thumb drive at all. Other than that it was OK to use. Haven't tried it since. If directions get easier to follow, then I may try it again someday....

Re: Has anyone played around with MX Linux?

Okay, after mostly using MX for 5 months I am really happy with it. Upgraded to MX19 last night and lost my sexy KDE desktop, which turned out to be a good thing. I found out I can use Cinnamon with MX and 19 fixed my printer driver issue. Mint still has a bluetooth issue where bluetooth won't see m...

Re: I need help with LARGEADDRESSAWARENESS....I think

Thanks guys!!

It appears to have been an issue with an older install of adb(I think). As I was working through the issue the phone came back to life and I never had to test the new install I did.

I need help with LARGEADDRESSAWARENESS....I think

Howdy, Hope I am posting in the correct spot. I am hacking( well, hacking, bricking, hopefully unbricking my phone ) and have run into a problem with adb sideload not being able to read the android image I need to install because it is too big. From the searching I have done I think it is because th...

Re: Has anyone played around with MX Linux?

After a month of mostly MX I have decided I like the way everything pretty much works without tweaking. I love the speed over Mint. I like the variety of software. So far I haven't run into anything that only has a tar.gz file for an install. I do miss how pretty and finished Mint looks. So, for now...

Re: Firefox settings

I found a solution that seems to be working. 1st off I noticed in the prefs.js file(after I opened it) the very top says any changes to this file while firefox is open will be overwritten when ff closes, or something like that. I thought that may have been my problem, I was changing the file w ff op...
