Re: Help: guvcview install errors (VHS to Digital)

Thanks for your kind suggestions. I have been away from the forum for a couple of days. After spending some serious hours working on this I have taken "the easy way out", at least for the moment. TLDNR warning: I have wiped the hard drive and dual booted with a minimalist install of Win7. I am using...

Re: Help: guvcview install errors (VHS to Digital)

Hi phd21, Thanks for your suggestions. I believe I found the source of the error. It seems that the packages libguvcview-2.0-0 and libguvcview-2.0-2 were in conflict, which I was able to resolve that in SynapticPM. It appears that adding the PPA and attempting to use the 2.0.6 version were the sourc...

SOLVED? Help: guvcview install errors (VHS to Digital)

I'm in the process of converting some old VHS tapes to DV, and installed guvcview from Software Manager via the repository (using LM 19.2) to facilitate the captures. Unfortunately, once installed guvcview would only display a progress “spinner”, but failed to open. I did a “complete” removal, then ...

Re: Mint as a starting point for remote Plex server

smurphos, Thanks for this information. The article " basic guide to using Ubuntu minimal" is very helpful and encouraging as I believe I can follow that example pretty well. The links for SSH and SSHFS are very welcomed too. Much for me to learn, but, sometimes an old dog can learn a few new tricks.

Mint as a starting point for remote Plex server

Not sure where to start, so I hope the networking sub-forum is the right place… I want to set up an older computer as a server to provide content delivery for an in-home only wifi network for Plex. While I have very little knowledge/experience with networking per se, I have used Linux desktops for a...

Indeed I did install Manjaro second. This is exactly the kind of step I was afraid of missing.

Thanks

Thanks for the input, and the reminder. I do have backups in place.

Love your signature graphic, as I now know the correct terminology for my condition, "chronologically gifted."

Solved - Removing Dual Boot LM19 and Manjaro

Would like to get some advice/guidance from forum members on removing Manjaro from dual boot with LM19. Recently installed Manjaro along side my LM19 installation to give it a try. Nice distro and enjoyed exploring, but am ready to get my SSD back to fully dedicated to LM19. After some searching on ...

Re: SOLVED: Kdenlive v. 19.04 bug / glitch Position and Zoom?

Thanks Racer-X... Didn't try "Composite and Transform" as the tutorials I had watched all used "Position and Zoom" that I accessed via effects list. After some feedback to this thread I did locate "Composite and Transform" in the context menu and was able to complete the task there pretty easily. I ...

Re: Kdenlive v. 19.04 bug / glitch Position and Zoom?

OK, I think I figured out the problem, and it appears to be my process/thinking. When setting key frames I had to make sure the zoom and position adjustment was set before hitting the add (+) key frame switch. This avoided the "blackout" of the screen described above. Even then I had to return to th...

Re: Kdenlive v. 19.04 bug / glitch Position and Zoom?

Tried using the appimage instead of the flatpak version, but got the same exact results. Out of curiosity I tried a rotate effect as it is similar and keyframe-able. It worked with out a hitch. I did screen caps of both effects (see pics), and noticed that there is an opacity parameter in rotate, bu...

Re: Kdenlive v. 19.04 bug / glitch Position and Zoom?

Thanks for that feedback. I'll try with Composite and Transform. I couldn't find Position/Zoom in scrolling through the effects list originally, but did find it with search. Given that, and your comments, I'm thinking it may have "slipped under the radar" during the refactoring for the new version. ...

SOLVED: Kdenlive v. 19.04 bug / glitch Position and Zoom?

Recently had my kdenlive app (flatpack) upgraded to version 19.04 from 18.12 that I used previously. Very happy and excited with new features and design. I had not tried before using keyframes in general and the "Ken Burns"/position and zoom effect specifically. After watching a couple of good tutor...

Sort image files by metadata

Hope this is the right place to be asking this question… I’m trying to organize many gigabytes of of photos for archival storage. The largest majority are “jpg’s”, though there are a fair number of “tiff’s” and “png’s” as well. What I would like to do is to use the files’ metadata so they can be sor...
