Re: Cloning my drive

I was rather hoping it would be a bit like the Macrium Reflect I used to use in Windows Since OP has used Macrium Reflect Free in Windoze...Op would already have a Rescue Disk...because you're asked to create one after installing the software...how else would you be able to Restore the OS in Windoz...

Re: TimeShift - what does it save?

I use Timeshift to create a Restore Point...which works but a System Image is so much better for many reasons.

Re: Cloning my drive

So can anyone let me know what on earth to do because it is getting very frustrating finding anything to work at a level that has some sort of GUI that is easy to follow. Had you followed my Macrium instructions...you wouldn't be having any problems as I have done this many times before...but you c...

Re: Cloning my drive

Hmm Bob have just tried making a Macrium CD but I am not getting the option for Linux on the rescue media so I am wondering if this is only available on the paid for version of Macrium Reflect?? I have downloaded the Mcrium to one of the Linux machines bt I cannot see how to oepn it and in any case...

Re: Cloning my drive

I am running Mint Cinnamon 18.3 and want to clone the drive. You do realize that you can Clone your HD (Hard Drive) using Macrium in Linux too...all you need is the Rescue Disk. I've used Macrium to Clone a spare HD in Windoze for years...a few years back I discovered that a System Image had more a...

Re: 4.13.0.26 kernal update crashed LM 18.2 Cinnamon

@bob466: well, you might try a microcode update first, before installing a newer kernel. Updated Microcode to version 0.23...then Re-Installed Kernel 4.13.0-26. Re-Booted and got the Mint Black Screen of Death with the cursor flashing in the top left-hand corner but no massage this time. A rollback...

Re: I'm sick of FUD and misinformation regarding Linux Mint

I've tried many Linux Distros over time either as a live DVD or in a Virtual Machine and Mint wins every time. Once you get the hang of it and that's not hard...you will never use anything else. It's easy to Install...stable and very user friendly...who the hell wants a Distro you need a Degree in C...

Re: Backup and restore on different cpu ?

Welcome to the Forum, Firstly forget Drivers...Graphic Cards and Hardware...you can create a System Image with Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk and Re-Image a HDD on another Computer...something you can't do with Windoze. You need to install Macrium Reflect Free on a Windoze machine where you can create ...

Re: Moving from NTFS to EXT4

I have an Internal HDD (NTFS) that was running as a storage HDD on Windoze 7 (Desktop) for about 4 yrs...when I switched to Mint I installed this HDD as a second HDD to see what was on it. As soon as I Booted the Computer I could open the HDD and see all files because unlike Windoze...Mint reads eve...

Re: 4.13.0.26 kernal update crashed LM 18.2 Cinnamon

You're not alone...seems many people are having the same problem. I just updated kernel 4.10.0-42 to 4.13.0-26 and when I Re-Booted got a black screen that said... [0.000000] [Firmware bug] TSC_Deadline disabled due to Errata: Please update Microcode to Version:0x22 (or later). The massage above mea...

Upgrade Cinnamon 18.2 to 18.3

On my desktop I have two HDDs...my main HDD Cinnamon 18.2 and my Test HDD Cinnamon 18.2...both 500GB. The other day I decided to Upgrade my Test HDD to Cinnamon 18.3 and if anything happens...I'll just Re-Image the Drive. I've never Upgraded...so I didn't know if I was about to wipe the HDD. It work...

Re: Cloud Backup - Your Preference and why?

For me it's Timeshift or Systemback to create a Restore Point and I use Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk to create a System Image which is stored on a External HDD. I've found both Timeshift and Systemback work well but a System Image as you know is so much better especially if your HDD fails and that co...

Re: Linux mint

It's easy to install...easy to use and runs like a Swiss clock. :D The first thing you notice when you install Mint...It's so much faster than Windoze and the Update Manager is also very fast...Updates are actually for the System and not full of Spyware/Malware like Windoze. You don't need to be an ...

No you haven't been hacked...this isn't Windoze. :D I've had this a few times and it's very easy to fix...you can do nothing and it will fix itself in a day or so...but it you're like me and can't wait...this is what I do... Open Update Manager...click Edit...Software Sources...enter your Password.....

Very easy to mount Windoze or Mint HDD with a live Mint Flash Drive/DVD. When you Boot to the live Flash Drive/DVD...plug in another Flash Drive and copy the files to it...easy. :D

Re: Windows 10 spying and data collection can be stopped with Virtual Machine? [SOLVED]

The only way to stop Microsoft spying on you is don't connect your VM to the Internet. Every version of Windoze has spyware and there's nothing you can do to stop it. You can turn off the Telemetry but Microsoft just turns it back on...so that's not an option. There's software that claims to stop sp...

Re: Roll back an update

I have Timeshift installed for this reason...among others and works very well. I create a Restore Point especially for level 4/5 updates...just to be on the safe side. Some time ago there was a kernel update...when I Re-Booted the computer I had no sound or Internet...so I clicked on my Restore Poin...
