Re: Very long boot time and error messages on LM19

Okay, brilliant. Thanks to both of you :D I tried thx-1138's method first and it worked for me. Regarding kernels, yes, I believe there was a minor version update in the 4.15 kernel yesterday, but the problems were already present in earlier 4.15 versions and whichever kernel LM18.3 had by default. ...

SOLVED - Very long boot time and error messages on LM19

Hi, Since moving from LMDE to LM19 XFCE I'm having very long boot times (Over 4 minutes). The following error messages are shown multiple times during boot [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CRTC:41:pipe B] flip_done timed out [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_depende...

Re: Wireless connection drops out (Realtek 8821AE)

Yes, I'm using the 4.11 kernel. Changing kernels didn't make any noticeable difference. I did do a bit more experimenting last night and came across your site's suggestion to set the BSSID field in network manager to the MAC address of the router. It's only been a few hours so it's a bit too soon to...

Re: Wireless connection drops out (Realtek 8821AE)

Hi, Thanks for that but that's actually the driver I referred to in my OP; sadly it didn't solve the problem. Searching this and other forums seems to show that some people can get these cards working just by installing the new driver and/or altering power management settings but for other people th...

Re: Wireless connection drops out (Realtek 8821AE)

The rtlwifi_new driver seems to have improved it slightly, but it's still dropping out after a few minutes. Power management is off. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Wireless connection drops out (Realtek 8821AE)

Hi, I've been trying to install Linux Mint on a new computer (Lenovo Ideapad 310 15-ABR 80ST) and I'm having trouble with the wireless connection which keeps slowing down/dropping out (though continues to show as connnected). The wireless card is Realtek 8821AE. There is no problem using Windows so ...

Re: Retrieving files from lost+found folder

Many thanks Cosmo, the context copy option worked. My data is safely backed up.

I've just looked at the Disks utility as Mute Ant suggests and its assessment is "Disk is OK, 2 bad sectors (37° C/99° F)". Are a couple of bad sectors fairly normal or a sign that the disk is dying?

Re: Computer stuck in busy box

Funnily enough I had exactly the same issue last night, could it be a bug? Anyway, I followed the steps Ben suggests. fsck did solve the boot problem but played havoc with my files. I've started a thread about that problem. here's the link in case you find yourself in the same boat: https://forums.l...

Re: Retrieving files from lost+found folder

Hi Cosmo, thanks for your reply. I tried copying first and I get the "Error while copying" dialogue box when I attempt to paste them in the target folder. If I click on "more details" it says "Error opening file: Permission denied". It seems that clicking the 'open as Root' option to open the lost+f...

Retrieving files from lost+found folder

Hi, I've been running Linux Mint 18.1 (Cinnamon)/dual-booted with Windows for about 2 months. This has mostly been without problem, but my computer has crashed twice during booting during the past week. Then yesterday my system failed to boot at all, stating that I needed to manually run fsck. I boo...
