Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

... I agree and it goes to what I was saying. Arguing about the 'year of the Linux desktop' or 'the year of ...' in general is in my view mostly pointless as you may just find the whole industry has changed underneath you anyway. What I was leading to was supposing Linux becomes the desktop standar...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

Only mucking about not being serious. Sure it can still be a foolish idea even if millions of people buy it. Besides the original comment was 'foolish people'. The end result may still be a success but it can still be originally foolish people that started it. After all aren't foolish people doing f...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

Linux would save businesses money as unlike Windows you do not have to retrain the user every time a new version appears. Sure my os updates constantly but the continuity is there to move up to the next version easily. A fair point to some degree but I don't think as big an issue as it would appear...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

Those extra expenses, if they exist at all, sound like they would be temporary. I have no reason to assume Linux admins are more expensive than Windows admins. And once people are used to Linux, it's not harder than Windows. Many people are only used to Windows because that's what they use at work....

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

What extra expenses? I'm not talking hardware, software, infrastructure costs there. I'm more leaning towards the costs of the administrators tends to be higher, Windows administrators are common as much (he, he just kidding), and the costs of maintaining the individual systems tends to be higher i...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

Not a problem I too tried to post a longer reply but it appears to have got lost. Maybe it will turn up eventually but for now I will await your reply. (Please skip the anime, emoticons, etc they don't help the discussion. Unlike a lot of internet users I assume you mean nothing personal so no need ...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

@Jedinovie Some of what you say is true but a lot of it doesn't relate to what I experience working here in the IT industry in the UK and from what I can see other parts of the world. Also your conclusions are, in my opinion, way off. Joe Public, we have learned, wants their computer to be used as a...

Re: Year of Linux desktop = 2017 = Intel doomed!

Sorry completely forgot something in your article that made me chuckle. The Pinebook!!!. Firstly it's Pinebook not Pinewood as you keep calling it (it's even in the link you had). Next it's not a Raspberry Pi (as you implied) based laptop it uses the PINE64 board which maybe builds on the legacy of ...

Re: Year of Linux desktop = 2017 = Intel doomed!

Sorry man sounds really bad over there, I hope you survive. What kind of classes do you teach? I assume it's IT/Tech related based on how definitive you were in the article. Chromebooks: I agree Chromebooks have been top sellers for Amazon for the last few years but you have to factor into that the ...

Re: Year of Linux desktop = 2017 = Intel doomed!

Hi just read you post and document and it was interesting and a real eye opener. First of all can I ask what kind of experience or expertise you have in this are as your statements all sound so definitive. Not that it really matters but it's good to know where everyone is coming from. I also think I...
