Re: The new shop
Hi Craig, The Store doesn't sell anything itself... it links to the items on the vendors (partners) websites. Say you're looking at a t-shirt for instance, if you click on it, you're redirected to Hellotux, who manufacture these t-shirts and you're then able to purchase it with them. ...which makes...

Re: text editor
If there is a decent TextPad equivalent out there for Linux, I haven't found it yet. I think people are assuming "notepad" (ie basic text editor) equivalence?! I have been an author (using Linux) for over 20 years and my tool of choice is Latex. Now that is not just one application - it i...

Re: Compiling razor-qt in LMDE
I can't add much to this discussion as I have not compiled it. However, FWIW, I did yesterday download an iso of Siduction (Sid) Razor-QT with Openbox window manager - ran it through usb stick on an old laptop with only 1Gb ram and "Holy Screaming Distros Batman!!!!" - I've never seen anyt...

Re: Mint Purple MDM theme with user list
Good job. I quite like the green one except, they are both a little bit "busy" on the right hand side for me.
I just have a preference for "flatter" backgrounds with a touch of variation in them, if that makes sense?
Still, nicely done.

Re: Crunchbang Mint?
I have the latest Crunchbang Linux Waldorf (testing) system installed on my Acer Aspire One 725 laptop. I like the minimal Openbox system, but I detest the look and would also prefer to have Firefox and Thunderbird (among other things) installed. Is there a way that I can give my Crunchbang system ...

Re: Burned Video-DVDs audio skips in home DVD player.
I do one more step than you do in creation of the DVD and have found any sync issues long gone. I use a program called ProjectX to DEMUX the downloaded/saved show. What that means is that it separates the file into two raw streams, one video and one audio. This is important because you cannot be sur...

Re: Memtest just shortened my life a bit...
Just a thought; have you checked your motherboard specs? Some dual channel memory can only be used in "like" banks. In other words, you cannot mix 2Gb and 4Gb sticks on the same motherboard. Try booting with JUST the 4Gb sticks inserted, if they work on their own, I would think the : mix i...

Re: DVD-playable AVIs without converting
There are approximately 200 different video codecs that are usually used with .AVI files. AVI itself isn't a video format, but a file structure and therefore it basically doesn't have anything to do with the video quality, method of encoding or anything like that. Read more about this from here: htt...

You talk about wanting to extract yourself from Windows and then converse about how to get apps to talk to an Exchange Server. Throw the damn thing in the trash where it belongs - seriously, it is not even "standards" compliant. Chances are that it is not up to him. Very few people mainta...

Re: Newbie Setup FTP/SSH
OpenSSH Server & Client is the way to go, particularly using "authorized keys" so you do not need to login all the time. I maintain many clients Linux machines this way. This may help: http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=2392 and there are dozens of OpenSSH tutorials on the web. r...

Change may come and change may go but me and Midnight Commander have been together for more years than I care to remember!! Takes a bit of learning to use productively at an advanced level, which I know all the quick fix junkies can't be bothered with nowadays, but it beats the pants off these "...

Re: GTK Applications in KDE and the Package Manager
For Qt apps, try installing "qt4-qtconfig" and run the app "qtconfig-qt4" and check the theming in there. Qt apps have setups that can be independent of KDE.Not sure why Clementine is messed up though, it's not GTK.

Re: Noob questions
Just FYI, cp does have a -r option for recursive copy, but, I agree with @mintybits that rsync is a much better (more powerful, more flexible) option for all copying other than the most simple stuff. You could have used "include" & "exclude" statements on rsync as an alternat...

Re: How do I use Alien to convert .rpm files
I have not used it for some time now, but, I think you will find alien does not handle files that have spaces in their name. Try renaming the Lacie download to "something.rpm" with NO spaces. Try alien again against the renamed file. I just downloaded from your quoted link and this worked ...
