Re: [SOLVED] Constant crackling noise in Kernel 5.0

Yeah, I think we've done just about everything we can at this point. If you want to fiddle a bit more we can see what happens with this: sudo rmmod snd-hda-intel followed by: sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel I am thinking you'll hear the noise after each command. The first one may fail though, and if it...

Re: [SOLVED] Constant crackling noise in Kernel 5.0

I try to lower the volumes of both "Capture" and "Speaker" in alsamixer but no success. The noise is still there at start up and when I shut the computer. Just a one time crackling noise each time. Is there something that touches the sleep mode of the sound card during start up or shutdown else than...

Re: Sound problem with kernel 5.0

Hello again. It was the power saving mode. Adding the line to alsa-base.conf did the trick. Now the constant noise is gone after reboot. I still get the one time noise at start up though, but it is back to where I was before :) Any idea on how I could make that noise disappear on start up? A huge th...

Re: Sound problem with kernel 5.0

Hello deepakdeshp,

Thanks for your reply. If I may ask, what forum do you advice to post on?
I'm indeed still using 4.18 and it's fine by me. I was just anticipating :)
I'm of course open to any advice and guidance.

[SOLVED] Constant crackling noise in Kernel 5.0

Hello Linux Mint! I'm writing to you today because I'm having a weird sound problem with the Kernel 5.0. I hear a intermittent crackling noise. I'm not sure but I think it's related to something that was happening at start up only when I use the Kernel 4.18. Here is a video of that start up noise I ...

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 codenamed ‘Tessa’

Question about the future kernel used for 19.1? Would it still be the 4.15? I'm asking because I need the 4.17 for my touchpad to properly function. As for now it works only with limited function (no hard click only finger touch) and depending on which update of the 4.15. Like the 32 is ok but not t...

Hello Jerry,

It does indeed. No problem with the touch-screen. I have not tested the pen device.

Re: How to ask for a new driver?

Hi again, Sorry for the non complete post. My questions was actually a follow up from this thread I had the hardware section. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=266969 The summary of it goes like this: No driver available yet for my touchpad device. I was therefore wondering if there was a...

How to ask for a new driver? [CLOSED]

Hello.

I have a laptop where no Linux distribution can find the driver for the touchpad. Is there a place where I can ask for this?
The laptop is almost 1 year old.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Re: Touchpad not working [CLOSED]

A tad more info:

I tried Debian 9.4 and the same erratic behaviour appeared: the touchpad worked for some minutes (no right button though) and then after the first reboot, it stopped.
So patience is the key.

Re: Touchpad not working - not solved yet - please help

Hi thx-1138,

Thanks for a prompt response again.

I feared but expected it. Thanks for your knowledge in this. I'll wait for some updates in the future.
I have a wireless mouse I can use for now. Not the end of the world.
Thanks you community!

Re: Touchpad not working - not solved yet - please help

Hello thx-1138, Thanks for your answer! However; sudo update-pciids && sudo apt-get install linux-firmware -> linux-firmware is already the newest version (1.157.17). and for: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-all-hwe-16.04 It removed a bunch of packages and installed so...

Humble bump. I can't be the only one having that problem. Can someone experienced tell me if there is hope or is it pointless.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

Installing the latest kernel (4.13.0-38-generic x86_64) seems to have partially fixed it. I can't select text, but at least it works. Marked as solved. Wrong.. my touchpad actually worked for some minutes while installing the last kernel. After a reboot, it's not working again. Does that give out s...
