I run your code, after about 5-6 minutes the computer froze up at the last line which was "unpack ghoshscript (9.26~dfsg+0--0ubuntu0.16.04.9 ., I didnt get the remainder. In addition to the solution Pjotr and Pierre already presented, make sure your root partition ("Filesystem" in Nemo) isn't full....

Re: Update Manager failing

A moderator should probably merge your two threads. Anyway: Check Update Manager Preferences > Levels, you possibly hid updates of all levels. Otherwise post output of this terminal command to check whether you've really got updates waiting: Lenovo-ideapad-100S ~ $ apt update Ign:1 http://mirror.in...

Re: User password rejected Mint

Don't abandon just yet - when you try to login in to the user account with the passowrd from your notes is it telling you the password is incorrect, or is it it just throwing you back to the login-screen with no message? - If the latter this is still fixable. Yes, level 3 updates should always be installed. And security updates of any level should always be installed too.
The update manager request to be updated, when I refresh, it remains empty, yet I’m seriously outdated. How can I update if update manager is broken.
Thank you Andow

Yes, level 3 updates should always be installed. And security updates of any level should always be installed too. I've been having problems with update manager, something isn't right, was locked out for OS for 9 months. I found the problem 2 weeks ago it was broken package and the grub needed upda...

Re: Linux distributions advice

you could try out the LinuxMint XFCE version https://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=266 or you could try using MX-Linux https://mxlinux.org/download-links/ or it's sister version: https://antixlinux.com/download/ as all of those are using the lightweight XFCE desktop, & which would be better suit...

Pierre has given you some good pointers on Distributions. I'm running LMC on my main computer and would like to setup a network between them to transfer data etc. NoMachine is a very easy method of connecting your 2 PC's once you have Linux installed on both.. https://www.nomachine.com/download/lin...

I don't know what caused the password prompt. Linux Mint boots in whatever mode you installed it in. That's UEFI for modern systems.
KO Xenopeek. Looks like a reinstall for me. Thanks you for your assistance. Andow

Re: Reinstall Mint Cinnamon

Disk encryption is only possible during installation. You can encrypt your home directory at any later time with the ecryptfs-migrate-home command (for which you must create a new temporary admin account first, because you can't run ecryptfs-migrate-home while logged in to your own account). If and...

Re: Reinstall Mint Cinnamon

That complicates it a bit. This sounds like you have home directory encryption, with an encrypted swap partition (which is needed with that). I'm not confident as to what's going wrong with user login. Does on login it actually say your password is incorrect, or does it just return you to the login...

Re: Reinstall Mint Cinnamon

If you only have Linux Mint installed on this system (so no dual booting with Windows for example) you can just boot from the original USB thumb drive and install Linux Mint anew and select to use the entire disk. That will overwrite all the partitions on the disk. As for encryption lockout, that's...
