Re: System76 - MeerKat

The Meerkat appears to be a rebranded Intel NUC. Memory and storage are easily accessed on a NUC.

Newly Installed Kernel 4.15.0.47 is "Active" and "Unsupported"?

I downloaded the subject kernel and rebooted, but the Update Manager-->View-->Linux Kernels lists it as "Active and "Unsupoorted" instead of the usual designation of "Installed" and "Supported until April 2023." Just curious about this change.

Re: Swappiness file seems to have moved??

Pjotr's instructions (https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... html#ID1.4) identify

Code: Select all

xed admin:///etc/sysctl.conf
as the command to use to access the text file to change swappiness values.

Re: Could not refresh list of updates--Your APT cache is corrupted

Thank you, philotux, for your reply. The image I tried to upload doesn't appear as being available when I use the Forum's Attachments > Add files window. Maybe I should start another thread to address this problem? Anyway, the Update Manager warning message has disappeared without any intervention o...

Could not refresh list of updates--Your APT cache is corrupted

This morning Update Manager showed two new updates available so I tried to install them, but got a message saying something like "switch respositories." I tried to do that, then got the message shown by the screenshot below: [img]file:///home/linuxuser/Desktop/Screenshot%20from%202019-02-18%2007-12-...

Re: LibreOffice won't open .docx file

OK, will do. It's just as well that I keep Firejail active in Thunderbird, because I just tried to open the attachment after quitting Firejail and the attachment wouldn't open. Strange, because I was running Thunderbird in Firejail in 18.3 and .docx attachments would open fine.

Re: LibreOffice won't open .docx file

BINGO! You nailed it! I moved the file to /tmp and LibreOffice found it and opened it. Success...thanks to you! What do you recommend for future attempts to open .docx attachments with LibreOffice in Thunderbird? Should I continue to choose /tmp as the file destination or should I just quit Firejail...

The search using the file manager doesn't find the file.

Yes, I'm using Firejail in both Thunderbird and Firefox.

Re: LibreOffice won't open .docx file

My email client is Thunderbird. When I click on the attachment to save it, the "Save Attachment" window shows it located in my Home directory. However, when in LibreOffice and use "Open" to try to navigate to the file, it isn't in my Home Directory.

Re: LibreOffice won't open .docx file

Thanks, ajgringo619, for your replies. I tried to open the attachment using Document Viewer and Text Editor without success. I tried to save the attachment and the Save Attachment window shows the file as located in my Home directory, but when I open that directory the file isn't there.

[SOLVED] LibreOffice won't open .docx file

I recently upgraded to 19.1 (Cinnamon) and now can't open a .docx file. With the previous install (18.3), LibreOffice would open these documents without fail.

I've done an internet search on the problem, but it doesn't appear to be a known issue.

How to fix? Thanks for guidance.

Help requested with slrn configuration

Are there any slrn newsreader users here? I had slrn working fine with 18.3 Cinnamon, but recently upgraded to 19.1 and now can't get slrn to run. Here's the message I get: Loading /usr/share/slrn/slang/slrn.sl Reading startup file /etc/news/slrn.rc. Reading startup file /home/ablebaker/.slrnrc. You...

Re: Is It Possible to Reinstall Just the Update Manager?

Many thanks to all of you for your helpful replies. I had assumed (mistakenly) that all of the kernels listed were included with the 19.1 install (and were taking up space on my computer--hence my interest in removing them). :?

Re: Is It Possible to Reinstall Just the Update Manager?

Here's a screenshot of the 4.15 kernels list window with the superseded kernels 4.15.0-22 and 4.15.20 selected. Note that only the "Install" button is active; there's no "Remove" button displayed. Clicking on the "Remove old kernels..." button does nothing.

[SOLVED] Is It Possible to Reinstall Just the Update Manager?

Is it possible to reinstall Mint's Update Manager without installing the complete operating system? If so, how? The problem I have is that with a recent installation of 19.1 Cinnamon, I can't remove old kernels using Update Manager-->View-->Linux Kernels. If a kernel window is opened, there's no opt...

Thank you for your reply and informative link. It would be nice to have the same functionality in both Desktop Layouts, but I know nothing about how difficult that might be to achieve.

Issue with modern desktop layout 19.1 Cinnamon

I've recently installed 19.1 Cinnamon and noticed a problem using the Modern Desktop Layout, if I right-click an icon in the panel, there's no option to Edit. This is evident only in the Modern layout; the Traditional layout works as it should. Any one else experiencing these problems or are they un...
