Re: Software problem or audio problem?

Speech Dispatcher provides a device independent layer for speech synthesis. It supports various software and hardware speech synthesizers as backends and provides a generic layer for synthesizing speech and playing back PCM data via those different backends to applications. source: Synaptic Have yo...

Software problem or audio problem?

I constantly use pavucontrol to manage my sound levels because I change to speakers to audio very often, and the levels varies quite a lot. I also use the terminal program alsamixer to control the levels of my audio at the boot up of my system, but because I restart very rarely, I find this not the ...

Re: xscreensaver/cinnamon-screensaver won't run when screen is locked

You guys seem to not care about this.

Anyway, I still had the same problem with the resolution being wrong when unlocking the screen, I don't mind using always energy(electricity), I DO MIND my monitor losing years of life, so in the end, this is the last setup

Re: xscreensaver/cinnamon-screensaver won't run when screen is locked

I fixed it myself. I don't know exactly what it was, but I uninstalled xscreensaver, then rebooted my computer which had an uptime of 4 days+, later updated everything except critical packages like the kernel, mesa drivers, etc; then made absolutely sure that the Cinnamon-screensaver, would be runni...

xscreensaver/cinnamon-screensaver won't run when screen is locked

This happened since one of the latest updates, I cannot say which one because I am not sure. I would lock the screen as usual (Ctrl+Alt+L) before going to bed (for example), and wake up and see the screen still locked with the dark background with no screensaver running What I tried to do: I found o...

Re: Headphone problem since installing Mint 18 [WORKAROUND APPLIED]

Why the heck Mint 18 has this problem?
I NEVER had a problem like in 11 years of working with a lot of POSIX based operative systems.

[SOLVED] story of UDEV /dev/dri/card0 not found

I FIXED IT YES Ok. This is going to be very technical; I wanted to connect my Kindle Paperwhite to my PC but it wasn't detecting it, even when plugging in/plugging off, dmesg didn't move at all. Calibre was mute too. Googling I found that I had to install some special file system and reboot; ok, wha...

Re: Is sleep mode also useful for a desktop computer?

Sleep is useful for a desktop if you want a near "instant-on" when you turn it back on. I use it pretty regularly. Your server software will NOT respond during sleep. The computer is basically off, except for power is still supplied to RAM so that it doesn't lose its contents. Note you should have ...

Re: Is sleep mode also useful for a desktop computer?

Absolutely. I always leave my desktop in sleep mode so I can start using almost immediately. Here's one period I used it for months till a power outage forced me to reboot. As you can see, the RAM usage was also well controlled during all those months by Linux. When I used sleep mode in windows the...

Re: Is sleep mode also useful for a desktop computer?

I have been using sleep mode for about 15 years and right now I use sleep mode with Windows 10 and a few Linux distros in a multi-boot scenario. You are wrong about the fans, sleep mode puts all of the internals to sleep, including all cooling fans. As long as you have the proper PSU for your Intel...

Is sleep mode also useful for a desktop computer?

Hello, I have been using Linux for years, and the last distro I used was OpenSuse 13.2 on my previous machine which was a Pentium Dual Core with ASUS motherboard. Two weeks ago, after 10 years, I finally changed my main desktop computer and bought a Intel i5 gen7 also with ASUS motherboard. I decide...
