Re: The pros of XFCE DE?

Depends on your workflow. Things i found great about Cinnamon: - You don't need to install a Dock. The new "modern panel" can work like that. - Great utilities to see all workspaces at once or windows opened on them a la expose style. - A lot of Alt Tab possibilities. About XFCE: - Almost perfect se...

Re: VOTE ! Mint-Y-LOGO... A New Version Of The Linux Mint Logo !

The new logo is more on the way, but i don't like the curves, should be simply inside a square (same borders and colors), It would look much much better.

I even think for the taskbar, Linux Mint should leave just the LM symbol, kind of symbolic style. it would make look the panel more classy.

Re: Cinnamon versus KDE

I'm really loving Cinnamon, i installed it on early September and i really enjoy it. I like it minimal feeling, and overall distribution of menus etc is great. The UI is really great and effects look great. So easy, you can keep focus on your tasks without getting crazy in between. The only thing Ci...

Re: Is Linux Mint ugly?

For the most part, I do not find Mint to be ugly. I mostly run xfce now and have used cinnamon extensively in the past. Once booted up, it looks like the competent, no-nonsense distro that it is. The wallpapers offered are wonderful though we live in a beautiful place and choose to put up our own l...

Re: Manjaro overtakes Mint in Distrowatch page-hit rankings

I gotta say it looks nice, i agree this kind of tricks probably help. I've been thinking on Manjaro for a while, what stops me is that i need a stable system. Mint never let me down on this, but Manjaro seems more enjoyable. I ran manjaro for a while when Mint announced it was no longer supporting ...

Re: nice icons

Icons depend a lot on the desktop, Papirus is my favourite for Xfce, on Mate Vibrancy looks really good and on Cinnamon my favs are Numix Circle (but they doesn't look good at all on Xfce's Thunar).

Numix Circle on Cinnamon.

MATE keyboard led indicator

Hi, I've been checking lately MATE desktop, and i like it. A question i got, are there anyway to make the Keyboard LED Indicator smaller? or any other app i could use? It's useful but really big icons, it contrast a lot with the rest of right side applets. You can activate it with DCONF, writing the...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

Hi again, I've seen that "free -m" or "screenfetch" shows very different results comparing with System Monitor in all 19 editions. If i remember well i didn't see this happen on 18.3 XFCE. For example, free -m gives me on start up on Cinnamon 650 while System Monitor 1.1 RAM. Based on free -m Cinnam...

Re: Linux Mint experience so far

I have to say recently i bought an Acer Aspire 5 and runs perfect on Mint 19 since minute one. I read a lot before buying the computer though. This one is an i5-8250U, 8DDR, intel graphics and a SSD 250 GB. It came with Endless Linux installed. It runs lightning fast.

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

Yes, it was the 64 bits version.

The thing is i don't really understand why all this talking about GNOME being resource heavy (a bit more than 1 GB people points in my readings) when 64 bits Xfce or Cinnamon are not so far away...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

I've been trying today from a pendrive Linux Mint 19 xfce. It works great, as usual, but it also uses too much Ram. 800 MB. I don't get it. The 32 bits version of Mint 18.3 i got on my old computer is on 200Mb at start up (before tweaking it was 350 or so). Not so much difference between 19 Xfce and...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

I installed some days ago Mint 19 Cinnamon on my new computer. It looks good after a bit of tweaking. But i still think it uses so much resources. Only Cinnamon running without anything else 1.1 Gb Ram. That's a lot. I like some stuff like the Hot Corners options, they are nice and useful but i stil...

Re: mint 19 cinnamon - adapta theme

I came back to post my solution, sorry, i just forgot to sudo apt upgrade. If you download it from their PPA there's no problem. I read somewhere than on Ubuntu 18.04 there was no need for sudo apt upgrade, but at least on Mint still there is. Thanks anyway! The theme fits perfect on Cinnamon, very ...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

You can't compete against Microsoft / Google. That's for sure. You need a lot of money, and there isn't. In my mind the only way to get big is to actually sell pre-installed devices. In this way you can make sure everything works out of the box with no hassle, people would have a cheap medium that w...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

Yes, An ancient one still works pretty great depending on your mission. I'm on an Acer Aspire from 11 years ago (Dual-Core 1.60 Ghz, 2GB DDR2, 250 GB HDD) and runs pretty neat on xfce with Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird etc. overall everything runs smooth. It even manage to run Ardour (Linux Prot...

cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

Hi all, I've been checking today Cinnamon desktop. It looks very good with lovely effects and all, it feels modern but following the standard old desktop (exactly what i like). But, what extras it has against xfce? i mean, i can put all this effects via Compiz and have a desktop that uses between 1/...
