Re: BlueGriffon on LMDE ?

Hi, I personally downloaded the 64 bit installer labelled ubuntu 10.10 and it runs beautifully on LMDE. Now I should mention I am trackng testing and running Gnome Shell, but it shouldnt matter. Download it and run from the command line sudo ./BlueGriffon-1.2.1-Linux-x86_64-Install An amazing little...

I Tip my hat once more to the Mint team.

Hi, Although Im using LMDE, I couldnt resist trying out mint 12. Gotta say its top notch. The Ubuntu base doesnt fit my needs for my servers and terminals so Ill still be sticking with the Debian edition. Regardless though, its a really nice example of an excellent system. Id love to see the MGSE an...

How can I switch and update to testing for gnome 3?

Hi, I want to install a fresh LMDE and then change my sources to testing and update to be on testing. I want to install gnome 3. I tried doing this already with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it resulted in an unbootable system. I assume that there is so much gnome 2.32 on the iso and transitioning t...

Re: Update pack 4?

Firefox issues? I just download the tar.gz package from firefox's download page, and extract to /opt/ (replacing the old "/opt/firefox" directory). Bam, you have the latest version of firefox. Doesn't that create incosistencies with the package manager then for future updates/removals etc...

Re: Update pack 4?

It will probally be a while for this update pack. A few major things will be happening 1) Gnome three is really migrating into testing 2) Ubuntu 11.10 (superpowered sloth) is coming out on October 15th and if the Mint team is still spinning ubuntu bases they will be getting ready to release Mint 12....

The grass wasn't so green...

Hello all, Just to recount my linux tale to others, a small distro hopping adventure. Annoyed with a couple of small issues on my terminal running LMDE Gnome 3 (my other machine is a server running LMDE UP3, Gnome 3 and runs very well) I decided to try fedora core to see if it would run better. Fedo...

Re: LMDE Libreoffice severely outdated even with Update Pack

Fair enough, but my point is that update pack 4 could be 6 weeks away. If Debian stable and the other distros have already patched it (amazing since stable is downstream) why should LMDE users need to wait 4-6 weeks? These are the issues that the other thread named "LMDE is it worth it?" w...

Re: LMDE Libreoffice severely outdated even with Update Pack

ok sorry if that came off a bit surly, but it just struck me as really odd, considering that there is a chance of viruses or malicious programs being inserted through this avenue.

Re: LMDE Libreoffice severely outdated even with Update Pack

So the plan is to just leave a gaping security hole in all our systems because it doesn't correspond with the release cycle? What they heck is the latest security repo for if not for this kind of thing? This should have been fixed the week it was found, security, like health and safety just isn't so...

Re: Gnome 3.2 is out

This is all so hilarious. When KDE 4 came out it was the same thing, rattling sabers and furrowed brows. Like I mentioned earlier, they even forked the project, called trinity. Everyone was saying the exact same things, freaking out in the same way, saying "it was the end of kde" and they ...

Re: I need the ISO for the stable mint

Well two options here. The first is, give the new latest repository and the rolling distro a try, its actually very solid and stable. However I have a feeling you mean the Linux Mint which can be frozen at squeeze so it can effectively run Debian stable. For creating a LMDE box based on debian stabl...

Re: Gnome 3.2 is out

The Gnome 3.2 shell tablet/touchscreen optimized toy computer environment for absolute noobs uses Mutter as window manager, you cannot use compiz with it, but you can use Gnome 3 fallback, the functionality limited Gnome 2 wannabe with compiz. H Yeah, Ive been using Linux for over ten years. I reme...

Re: Could we PLEASE get a true idea of release for UP3?

I was in the same position, I couldn't get ffmpeg to install had issues with other packages, etc. Just in the process of re-formatting the box with Mint 11 standard  At least it is stable and everything works. These multiple repositories to get things is just confusing to us normal users. I h...

Re: Could we PLEASE get a true idea of release for UP3?

P.S. If I got the facts wrong or you feel Im over reacting because it will turn out ok, then you totally missed the point. Home end-users, students, parents, small buissiness owners should need to dig in this deep just for basic system stability or just to understand their system. I think my mother...

Could we PLEASE get a true idea of release for UP3?

Hi, I was under the impression UP3 would be released by now. Im already more than a bit annoyed that I installed LMDE shiny new respin and installed alll my normal packages only to find they came from multimedia and that repository has now been slated unfit and scheduled to be changed. I really don'...
