Re: Mint 21
I would like to see mint 21 have no ability for people to use Snapd programs whatsoever. The whole reason I abandoned Zorin and Ubuntu was because of that. Snaps damage peoples' pcs IMO. I also want to see Mint 21 have more DE's allowed (Deepin and KDE for two examples) than just XFCE, Mate, and Ci...

Re: Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix Themes for Linux Mint
You right but it doesn't work too great with the light themes. And when I select the icon theme the Mint apps and settings icons use their fallback icons.

Re: Cannot shutdown or restart the system
I am still on 5.13.0-27. I cannot understand why the system seems to be confused. Can somebody shed any light on this? Please check this topic Una: Kernel 5.13.0-28 listed but not offered as update? . Maybe running the update mentioned in it will help with the issues you are noticing. Thanks. I man...

Re: Cannot shutdown or restart the system
To anyone reading. I solved the strange Kernel problem by manually installing a newer version, rebooting and manually deleting 5.13.0-27. The Kernel is now showing as 5.13.0-40 Unfortunately the reboot/shutdown process is still broken. The process however goes further towards completion. Keyboard, s...

Cannot shutdown or restart the system
I have a Ryzen mobile CPU. I cannot shutdown or restart the system. I was told the 5.13.0-28 fixes the issue. But strangely enough that version is not offered to me. I am still on 5.13.0-27. I cannot understand why the system seems to be confused. Can somebody shed any light on this? simon@HM60-PC:~...

Re: Kernel 5.13 series now available in update manager
Since I am running a Radeon RX6600 card 5.11 is too old for me. So I am looking for a suitable replacement that doesn't break anything in Mint. RX6600 card here on 5.14, runs perfectly. sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04d sudo reboot Great thanks :) I just installed it. Lets see how it goes...

Re: Kernel 5.13 series now available in update manager
Since I am running a Radeon RX6600 card 5.11 is too old for me Why is that? From what I understand all varieties of the 5.11 kernel are supposed to support amd 6000 series gpus like a boss. *scratches chin curiously* Yes 5.11 does support the card but not the earlier version which is used for the C...

Re: Kernel 5.13 series now available in update manager
I tested 10 different kernels on Mint 20.2 recently, even 5.15.1. I settled for 5.14.0-1005-oem (support to April 2025). It is stable and produced no system interruption, no video tearing/flickering/distortions, at least for me. Interesting. For what use case is this Kernel recommended? Since I am ...

Edge ISO for Mate or XFCE
Hi all
Since I have a Rocket Lake CPU I have to use the EDGE ISO to install Mint 20.2. I do like Cinnamon but was really curious to testdrive the other flavours. Is it possible to create an EDGE ISO for these too or is there a workaround to get the distro to load up with 5.11?
Thank you

powerline installation and set up
Hi all
I am not very experienced in Linux and would really love to install powerline for the terminal.
I found many different instructions and none of them worked. Does anybody have a reliable procedure for 19.1 Cinnamon?

Re: Ryzen 5 2400G Working Flawlessly on Mint 19 (so far!)
My hope has been with Fedora. I haven't tested it, so I thought it would be THE option to get kernels 4.17/18 and get decent long-term Raven Ridge support. Since you've mentioned Fedora Cinnamon earlier and now you're coming back to Mint 19, it makes me believe things didn't go so well. Would you e...

Re: Ryzen 5 2400G Working Flawlessly on Mint 19 (so far!)
So I am still on the look-out for a long-term, reliable distro. And I would really like this to be Mint 19. Seeing I have quite a few sound, display and ACPI issues, I am going to test a couple of the solutions mentioned here. To begin I have just added the pcie_aspm=off idle=nomwait options to grub...

Re: Ryzen 5 2400G Working Flawlessly on Mint 19 (so far!)
My challenge is that I use Mint as that reliable daily driver. Having to change the Kernel unless its from the Ubuntu HW enablement stack defeats the purpose of using Mint. Anyways, can't blame Mint devs for hardware support. I will wait patiently for LM 19.1 In the meantime, I am using Fedora Cinna...

Re: Ryzen 5 2400G Working Flawlessly on Mint 19 (so far!)
Thanks so much for this thread. It's good to know that there are solutions I am also using the cheapy ASUS A320M-k with Ryzen 1600x & Radeon RX570 I haven't been able to get LM19 or Ubuntu 18.04 for that matter to work acceptably with default Kernel. The issues: - random hard freezes (Cinnamon) ...

Re: Dual boot Windows and Mint 19 Tara issues
I am pretty sure you won't have a problem once you install Mint correctly. This all sounds like a botched install, especially since W10 keeps changing constantly so you wouldn't want to install alongside but rather manually create Linux partitions or - better- use a separate disk. Hard to say what t...

Re: Mint 19 Opinions and Reviews
Wanted to also give my 2c on this topic. I am a huge Mint fan and probably will always be. Mint is the most polished, thoughtful distro I know. I love the balance between consistency and the ever-evolving experience. But as of Mint 19, I have to find an alternative distro as my daily workhorse. I am...

Re: How do I install AMDGPU-Pro on Mint 19?
A good site that is updated regularly with info on testing Linux graphics and hardware performance is Phoronix. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=search&q=AMDGPU-PRO Thank you. That's great advice. Right now everything works so I won't go down the non-free firmware path unless I have to. D...

Re: Linx Mint 19 Hangs on Boot After Updates (UEFI issue?)
So I re-read the help text at the bottom of my BIOS, and I found online instructions for disabling secure boot. That does seem to be the problem. The way the help text reads, secure boot only works if Windows UEFI is selected, while selecting "Other OS" disables secure boot. Likewise, I w...

Re: How do I install AMDGPU-Pro on Mint 19?
Hi all, please excuse my laziness for not reading through the whole thread from the beginning. Aside from the correct way of installing the proprietary drivers, what is the current word for Mint 19 Cinnamon: should one use the non-free drivers from AMD with an RX570 or should I rather try to make do...

Re: Can't boot Mint 19
Tried the powersupply and even tried turning PSS off(which seems to be related to acpi) neither worked. Trying to find the IOMMU option. If you don't hear from me consider it failed. That said, I'll think twice to ever buy an ASUS mobo again. I still have endless ACPI issues and Kernel errors on Li...
