Re: Connection problems with bluetooth speakers

It might very well be. I don't remember seeing such a thing.

Hopefully someone will know how to prevent/bypass that.

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

I think what is happening, at least in that last case, is your pulse config files are getting corrupted. Delete the files in /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse (don't worry, they'll get recreated with a fresh set after the next step) then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal. I'm not sure why it's an iss...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

I use Xfce, so I don't have that Sound Preferences applet. That's one of the reasons I always suggest pavucontrol. It also has many more settings than any of the DE sound applets. The HDA NVidia is your HDMI sound. If you never use HDMI audio, just set it to OFF on the Configuration tab of pavucontr...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

We don't know for certain that closing Radio Tray is causing your sound card to change to another option yet, but as this is the card you want used anyway, it won't hurt to add this config: 1. In the terminal type gksudo xed /etc/pulse/default.pa and enter your password when prompted. Ignore the war...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Well, I installed and ran Radio Tray. Quit the program while it was running, then started a video. The sound worked fine. When your sound isn't working, run pacmd list-sinks again while something is attempting to play, just so I can see what might be wrong. I'll get the config change ready that shou...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

It's possible Radio Tray is bypassing pulseaudio, which would then prevent pulseaudio from accessing the sound card at all.

I'll try installing it and seeing what's what.

Next time this happens, instead of rebooting, see if running pulseaudio -k in the terminal gets things back to normal.

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Hi Amii_Leigh. There are a few way of tackling this. You should install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol.) When Radio Tray messes up your sound, go to pavucontrol's Playback tab and change it back. This should work while the sound is playing. It's too late if the sound is no longer pla...

Re: Mint 19 Right speaker and microphone doesn't seem to work

Good catch! I ran alsa-info right after I was testing my microphone and for that I needed my external speakers. That explains the muted internal speakers (since I didn't unplug those external speakers), but it doesn't explain the muted output for headphones. Maybe it has something to do with Auto-M...

Re: How can I generate a pdf-a document in MATE?

I believe so. Open the pdf file with LibreOffice Writer then click on File > Export as PDF... > and check the box for Archive PDF/A-1a, then click Export.

Hope that helps.

Have to tried deleting the speaker and starting over in the bluetooth app? Of course, this will require putting the speaker back in pairing mode.

Re: Mint 19 Right speaker and microphone doesn't seem to work

Wow. I just looked at your alsa-info script output and saw this: Node 0x14 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40058d: Stereo Amp-Out Control: name="Speaker Playback Switch", index=0, device=0 ControlAmp: chs=3, dir=Out, idx=0, ofs=0 Amp-Out caps: ofs=0x00, nsteps=0x00, stepsize=0x00, mute=1 Amp-Out vals: [0x00 0...

Re: Not getting sound from both speakers

Hi nezmah. I'm so sorry you're having this trouble. I'm hoping dpraznik's instructions get you cleared up. Once that issue is corrected, it appears there's no way to get the sound issue fixed at present. @dpraznik has submitted bug reports to the alsa and kernel developers. Whatever comes of that wi...

Re: Connection problems with bluetooth speakers

Hi jegger. I'm not great at fixing Bluetooth issues, but sometimes I get lucky. First, let's make sure pulseaudio is running properly. Paste back the output of running sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* in the terminal. All returned lines should end with pulseaudio. Also, many users report success by uninstal...

Re: Mint 19 Right speaker and microphone doesn't seem to work

It was my pleasure to try to help. I'm kind of hoping Takashi Iwai gets involved. He's brilliant with this stuff. In fact he wrote a lot of alsa and kernel stuff related to sound. Either way, I'm sure you'll get the help you need from one of those lists. Please do report success here when the time c...

Re: Mint 19 Right speaker and microphone doesn't seem to work

I had this reply ready in the other thread, but didn't want to interfere with trying to fix the dpkg issue. You both might also want to consider running apt remove oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms as it didn't help. nezmah, try dpraznik's suggestions first to fix the issue you're having. Based on dpraznik's...

Re: Mint 19 Right speaker and microphone doesn't seem to work

This might be interesting/revealing: In the terminal run speaker-test -t wav -c 6 and let it run for at least one full cycle then use Ctrl-C to stop it. I think you'll understand what I mean about cycles once it plays. Could you hear all channels or just certain channels? If you hear everything, the...

I'm thinking it's not going to work/help. See this topic for the same issue with the same machine.

Let me see your output for amixer as well please.
