Re: No Audio After New Monitor & GFX Card

Your inxi results did not show any onboard sound. Did you intentionally disable that in the BIOS? It might be worth a shot to go into the BIOS and re-enable sound if possible. The onboard sound can still be disabled in pavucontrol on the Configuration tab by just setting the proper Profile to Off. A...

Re: No Audio After New Monitor & GFX Card

Well, I'm stuck at the moment. A kernel upgrade might fix it.

I am very late to bed, so I'll check in tomorrow morning to see if there's any progress.

Good luck.

Did you delete the files in ~/.config/pulse and run pulseaudio -k as well?

Re: No Audio After New Monitor & GFX Card

Damn, they're all saying unplugged. Try disconnecting the HDMI cable and reconnecting it.

Go to the Configuration tab (two to the right of Output Devices) and try HDMI 1.

Re: No Audio After New Monitor & GFX Card

Okay. I think we need pavucontrol here. Install and run it, then go to the Configuration tab. The Profile that has HDMI settings will probably have multiple options. Hopefully, only one will NOT say (unplugged) that should get you going. If that doesn't help, first try deleting the files in your ~/....

Re: No Audio After New Monitor & GFX Card

Hi luxorium, and welcome to the forum. You're probably just playing sound to the wrong place. One way to check that is to start something with sound, then run pacmd list-sinks in the terminal. At the end of the output, it will tell you the active port it is (attempting) playing to. To configure thin...

Re: Neither ... nor, without neither.

Neither and nor must be used together, you cannot have one without the other, as my old English teacher from last century would say. Actually we also called him "the Fossil" because he was that old. Incidentally he also taught us Latin, which, we were convinced that, it was his first language/ Neit...

Re: No sound on my s/pdif output

Sorry uvlt, I thought I had already replied to your last post. I'm sorry you're have more issues with your system, and maybe they are all related. If you haven't yet done a new install, you could check for permissions issues with find $HOME ! -user $USER . If that returns a bunch of stuff, it can be...

The append flag was also removed from the tee command. That would be very important to prevent Target configured multiple times or whatnot.

Re: Startup Jingle

Hi chazb. This helped another user get system sounds (me as well, but I've since diabled them.) Open the Settings Editor (Menu > Settings > Settings Editor) and click on xsettings on the bottom of the left panel. In the right panel under Net, you probably don't have a SoundThemeName property so clic...

Re: Dell Inspiron 530s has no sound

Hi Russell55. I'd just like to slightly modify the very good replies you've received so far. If you end up needing to go to an 18.x version of Mint, start with 18 Sarah then upgrade it to 18.3 so you'll have the 4.4 kernel. 18.3 comes with the 4.10 kernel that is no longer supported and you'll end u...

Re: Font Shadows

Sorry. My only other suggestion is look in gtk* folders inside the ~/.config folder to see if there's a gtk.css file there that may be conflicting. If a gtk.css file exists in one of those folders, try renaming it to gtk.css.bak then see if your other edits work after restarting nemo.

Re: Font Shadows

That's as far as I can take you. Some googling may be in your immediate future. Sadly most likely, i made some alteration to the code; .nemo-desktop.nemo-canvas-item { color: #FFFFFF; text-shadow: 10px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.26)@desktop_item_text_shadow; } I increased the shadow to 10px but it still ...

Re: Insanely loud static noise on internal microphone - worked minutes after installation, doesn't anymore?

Hi jackson25, and welcome to the forum.

Your screenshot of alsamixer doesn't show microphone nor boost. Try hitting the right arrow key a bunch of times (more than 8 at least) to see if they show up then. Also, try the options when you press F4 while that screen is showing.

Good luck.

Literally first thing I tried a couple months ago. Never worked.
And did you make 8 the default?
