Re: Soundcards lost when I switch off

OSS is what was used in Linux before ALSA. When OSS went proprietary with the code, that's when ALSA took over. I'm struggling to find the reason snd-hda-intel isn't loading automatically, so we can correct it in the proper place. Let's see the output of ls -l /etc/modprobe.d/ and maybe that'll cont...

Re: 19.1 Mate and Banshee

I don't have Banshee installed. I had hoped "if the folder in question is in the "Music Folder" tree, rescanning the music library will add it to the library. (Just confirmed that this works.)." would be enough info.

Re: Need help configuring pulseaudio - terribly confused now

Gotcha. I don't use qmmp. I'm betting after the files regenerated in ~/.config/pulse, you then would need to restart qmmp. I'd like to also mention that SMPlayer is highly recommended by some on here. It does have a normalize option, and also remembers volume settings across sessions, from what I ha...

Re: Need help configuring pulseaudio - terribly confused now

Actually, part of what I did before (and did stupidly...didn't make a backup...and I know better than to do that, too) was to remove everything (except for the eq presets) in ~/.config/pulse ... that caused so much trouble, as it turned out.... Run pulseaudio -k in the terminal (or log out/in) and ...

Re: Install on used laptop gift

You said earlier: I have several OS on an external HD, so also tried plugging that in before start-up rather than the thumbdrive. Same result.

Now that you can get to the boot options, you can see if that external drive is bootable. It may not be depending on how the OS's were installed.

Re: Need help configuring pulseaudio - terribly confused now

I am sorry you're having so much trouble spooky130u. Audio on Linux has progressed a lot over the years but it still has some way to go before it's up to snuff. Without meaning to offend in any way, I had to chuckle a little when you mentioned wanting something to normalize the volume right after af...

No problem. Good night.

When you're back also include the output of dmesg | grep snd

Re: Soundcards lost when I switch off

All right. The extra info you've given might help. Let's see the output of running cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf | tail in the terminal.

Re: Install on used laptop gift

Try the F12 key when booting up. See https://community.acer.com/en/discussio ... -menu-keys

If that doesn't work, try F2. See https://community.acer.com/en/discussio ... -to-legacy

Re: Input USB device sound

Hi RogerA, and welcome to the forum.

Install PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol.)

Check it's config on the Configuration tab, and the input levels on the Input Devices tab.

Hope that helps.

Re: Need help configuring pulseaudio - terribly confused now

I had this happen recently and I'm not 100% certain that what stopped it was deleting the files in ~/.config/pulse then running pulseaudio -k in the terminal. Notice that 2 of the filenames end with volumes.tdb I can only guess that when your sound when to 11 (i.e. maxed out,) pulseaudio was confuse...

Re: Optical drive not recognized after Kernel upgrade

Hi fstjohn. This is the first I've seen anything about the optical drive on the newest kernel. I did help someone with a sound issue that turned out to be sound drivers not loading after their same kernel upgrade. The only thing I can offer is look at the results of running inxi -dx in the terminal ...

Re: Soundcards lost when I switch off

Hi JowiKrause. I'm pretty certain a reinstall won't be necessary. I think the first step should be to run sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME in the terminal to make sure everything in your home directory belongs to you. Next, delete all the files in the /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse directory then ...

Re: Thunderbird refuses to accept my Yahoo email account

Hi AZ. I'm wondering if you've set the Authentication Method as anything other than Normal password. I somewhat recently set up TBird to use with a Yahoo! email address and had no issues at all. The Normal password is how mine is set up and is the only thing I could spot that you might have had diff...
