Re: No system (events) sounds in Linux Mint XFCE 18 and 19

Hi Tomsat50.

For starters, are the 2 Event sounds boxes checked in Menu > Settings > Appearance > Settings tab?

This topic may help as well.

Re: Acer Chromebook R11 no sound

If you haven't already, I suggest you install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol.) I think doing that earlier fix may have set other options that you might find on the Configuration tab. If still stuck, start a video or something with sound and run pacmd list-sinks in the terminal and pa...

Re: Acer Chromebook R11 no sound

This will probably fix you.

Go to this page and scroll down to Audio: Alsa Use Case Manager definitions and just follow the instructions.

Good luck.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

So I found a somewhat official fix but I don't know how to implement it. Could someone please explain to me how to implement this... https://www.systutorials.com/linux-kernels/574154/alsa-hda-realtek-fix-headphone-mic-doesnt-recording-for-alc256-linux-4-1/ That is a patch to the kernel that as far ...

Re: Acer Chromebook R11 no sound

Hi tavorite. Let's start by seeing the output of inxi -Fxz and aplay -l please. Also, in case it's the app you're using that isn't configured yet for sound, does aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav produce sound or errors? P.S. Just in case, this is all done in the terminal. You can use yo...

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

One other thing worth trying is instead of model=laptop-dmic, see if model=laptop-amic in the alsa-base.conf file helps.

Or model=inv-dmic is another possibility. This one actually sounds promising, although it's probably because I don't understand what it means.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

Understood. Regarding your inxi, specifically this part: Audio: Card Intel Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 00:1f.3 This has been a problematic setup for many with Linux. In the cases I've tried to help, if fixed have all been resolved with vastly different techniques. Most re...

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

Hi esc11. Let's see the output of inxi -Fxz please. I missed that this was a new computer and I suspect your hardware might actually be a little too new to get things working correctly at this time. @sebastjava I have only learned what I know by trying to help people here with lots of Googling and a...

Hi pgc3411.

Chances are pretty good running apt update in the terminal will spit out some errors that will help diagnose your issue.

Re: Switching DE brings back old audio output issue....

Hi borg101. If you install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) you could try shutting off the card that has the Digital out on the Configuration tab. Another possible solution might be to run sudo alsactl store when things are working correctly and test. If it still flips, does sudo alsa...

Re: Sennheiser GSX1000 USB Soundcard from Mono to 7.1 in Linux Mint 19

Hi Feng, and welcome to the forum.

If you install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) you might be able to make the correct adjustment on the Configuration tab depending on what Profile options it gives you.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

I see in the new dmesg output that you did the DKMS Alsa upgrade. Is that something you just tried or had you done it before starting this thread?

Try deleting the files in ~/.config/pulse/ then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

That dmesg is your issue. I have no idea why it keeps trying to reconfigure over and over. Let's see if a sound related reload will help. Do each of these one at a time: apt remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio apt install alsa-base pulseaudio sudo alsa force-reload Then test your sound. If no differ...

I have to head out for a bit. Check your BIOS as well to make sure the sound input isn't disabled or something.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 - Internal Microphone not working

Give this a try. apt install alsa-tools-gui and once it's installed hdajackretask I'm guessing you will not have to select the device in the box in the upper left, but wherever it shows the internal mic, click on Override then test the mic. If that works, click on Install boot override. I don't have...
