Re: Cron Job Failing

Cron doesn't know /usr/local/bin/ by default.

Use /usr/bin/ or /usr/sbin instead.

EDIT: Nevermind. Don't know what I was thinking.

Re: Sound Problem On Cinnamon Dual Installation

My apologies. I use Xfce and thought the Cinnamon sound applet looked like the pic in this link: https://askubuntu.com/questions/75395/p ... -on-ubuntu

See if deleting the files in ~/.config/pulse/ helps with your sound issues.

Re: Sound Problem On Cinnamon Dual Installation

Hi vw98075.

See if this helps. Open the sound applet and go to the Applications tab. Now move the slider to the left until it is below 100%, then test.

Hi newbuss, and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, eijig hasn't been back since their last post. I think it is best for you to start your own thread and please include the results of typing the following in the terminal: inxi -Fxz and aplay -l Also please include any steps you've taken to try to r...

Re: Missing Grub screen at start up

You can also hold down the Shift key when the oem splash screen appears. This will force a grub screen with no timeout. Good if you only need grub occasionally. If you change /etc/default/grub as MrEen has shown then you must also run: sudo update-grub to make the changes effective. Thanks for that...

Re: Auto updates not working on Linux Mint 19

I'll have to bow out here as I'm still on 18.3 and don't have the cron.daily to check its settings.

Re: Missing Grub screen at start up

Hi palimmo.

In the terminal, run xed admin:///etc/default/grub and change the line:

Code: Select all

GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
to:

Code: Select all

GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
You can change 10 to any number of seconds you wish.

Re: Auto updates not working on Linux Mint 19

The Update Manager checks 10 minutes after booting and then every 2 hours after that with defaults.

The auto updater seems very finicky.
You just need to wait (up to 2 hours if default settings are used) for the Update Manager to check again (or run apt update in the terminal) and the check mark will eventually come back.

Keep the current one, and one previously known-working kernel is the usual suggestion.

Re: lost usb after kernel upgrade Mint 17.1

Hi 3pinner. You can remove the offending kernel via Update Manager > View > Linux kernels Afterwards, the Update Manager will offer it again, and maybe this time you could get exact details about the errors. One possibility is / or /boot is too full that could be seen with df -h and if so, you proba...

Did you try other methods of making the bootable iso?

Rufus is highly recommended.

Re: DVD Not Mount Without Reboot

Hi alligoodw. This is a guess on my part, but I'm thinking this is a power management issue. Your system is powering down the usb port when idle, and it's not waking up as you'd like when inserting a DVD. I don't have the know-how to safely correct this, but instead of a reboot, just unplug the devi...

Re: No sound from built in speakers

Now that you know how you can use hdajackretask, see if this post helps. What I'm thinking is instead of disabling a pin, use an override on an unconnected pin to see if you can get everything working.

Re: i've the latest cinammon mint but my laptop freezes often when on chromium

While I don't use chromium, here is what I would try: 1. Disable all extensions. If it still freezes, it might be a driver issue. See if there are updated drivers offered in Driver Manager. 2. Slowly add back the extensions with plenty of testing in between each. When it starts freezing again, you'l...

Re: The synaptic update manager is not able to complete updation. Exits with errors

I'm afraid this is probably well above my head. To me, this line: : not foundkg/info/grub-pc.config: 5: /etc/default/grub: has a correlation to this line in your grub: GRUB_DEFAULT=4 The =4 means your default OS to boot is the 5th entry in grub (0 is the first.) Upon re-reading and trying to underst...
