[SOLVED] How to change back grub to show me OSs with small icons next to them?

After upgrading to LM20, I have had a few, overall quite acceptable issues, most of which I was helped to address. I have only one minor request left in the tank. Up until the upgrade, Grub was showing a nice page with nice fonts and little icons next to Mint and Windows 10. Now it is just the basic...

Re: Should I worry about this error messages?

@ rene The initramfs "issue" is gone as you indicated. So thank you! for that. Everything seems in order, all my programs work, audios and movies play. I will try to clean the rest little by little. If I may take advantage of your expertise, the only other issue I have (and that started re...

Re: Should I worry about this error messages?

I ran dmesg | grep error and I received the following:

Code: Select all

    4.917349] EXT4-fs (nvme0n1p6): re-mounted. Opts: errors=remount-ro
inxi - Fxz .. I am not seeing anything suspicious at this point.

Re: Should I worry about this error messages?

Thank you Rene. I installed Linux Mint 18 from scratch and then I upgraded to 19 and, today, to 20. Following your advice I was able to eliminate some of the error messages. However, the Initramfs error is still there. It does not prevent me from using the PC or anything (so far). For the file you m...

[SOLVED] Should I worry about this error messages?

I made the upgrade from 19.3 to 20 and it seems to work. However, when I start it, I get a lot of messages that I'd rather not seeing. Is it something I should worry about. - Logs begin at Thu 2020-07-09 17:54:21 PDT, end at Thu 2020-07-09 17:57:35 PDT. -- Jul 09 17:54:21 mrt-WT73VR-7RM kernel: Init...

@ arvy. Thank you for your reply. I have just one additional small question. Would following that process also take care of updating grub?

Where can i find a new Mint logo with a nice metallic effect?

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a site where I could find the new round Mint logo with a nice metallic effect. That would be very appreciated. The new round logo in green does not look particularly good in a background and it is a bit childish as well. I wish Mint had something like Kali...

[SOLVED] What is the best procedure to install a new Linux Mint, like 20.0 in dual booting?

In recent times I have upgraded from Linux MInt 18.3 to 19 and now I am planning to do the same from 19.3 to 20 using the "automated" process that will be available in a few days. However, while that is fine, sometimes a fresh install seems to have some merit in allowing to clean up the sy...

[SOLVED] Dual booting systems and ransomware

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me what could potentially happen to someone who has a dual booting system (Windows 10 and Linux Mint) in case Windows 10 disk is attacked by a Ransomware "virus". I would expect that it should not be able to reach the Mint partitions that Windows ...

Re: Installing Julia in Linux Mint

@xenopeek.... Thank you. It works... I have a symbolic link that starts Julia. Do you know if I could create a launcher, i.e. a button that, once I click it, opens Julia? I usually create buttons for all my programs. That way I do not have to remember the name I gave them, although it is not all tha...

Installing Julia in Linux Mint

Hi. I have a version of Julia on my laptop which I got using Snap Store. That version is the second to the last among the stable ones (1.0.4 vs 1.0.5). I would like to install the latest release not under development (1.3.0). I can download the tar.gz file from the Julia Language site, but how do I ...

Re: Removing old Nvidia drivers

@catwezel
Thank you... The autoremove command works, but I wonder why when I open the Driver Manager I see so many entries like here. I would like to eliminate the old entries which I have not used in quite some time.

Removing old Nvidia drivers

Over a period of time I have accumulated a series of Nvidia drivers. I am using the latest and I would like to delete the old ones that I have not used .. forever. Is there an easy way to do it? I do not see how to do it from the Driver Manager. I suppose purge something could work, but I am afraid ...

I will try again later today, but the first steps are the same I used, only difference is that when I give the command ./julia nothing happens.
