Re: My biggest concern: looking for a how to in case it happens
So. If I use Clonezilla or Foxclone, if my machine has become a brick, I can set it back to its old self before the "accident"? Forgive my ignorance, but what if the machine completely does not start, just a black screen with neither Windows or LM ?

(SOLVED) My biggest concern: looking for a how to in case it happens
Since my first time with Linux I have been a devout believer. As a dual booter and someone who earns a living using his computer (I really cannot stay more than 15-30 minutes without it) I have one scenario that increases my heartbeat to where it should not be, given my age. Yes, having to reinstall...

Re: Need expert advice on how to do things properly
It sounds as a pretty new computer... Make sure the hardware is supported in Mint21 Yes, you are correct. I had the same issue with the one that I am using right now. I tend to buy a major one every 6-8 years and I am about at 6 with this one. Last time I had to install a newer kernel that, for me ...

Re: Need expert advice on how to do things properly
@spamegg Thank you.. that is why I am buying the machine I am buying with a cpu having as many cores as I can afford, for if I can dedicate 8 cores or even 12 to the VM with hard disk on SSD it should behave fairly well. Many users have 4 cores for their laptop, after all. But, you are right that I ...

Re: Need expert advice on how to do things properly
@Cosmo.. Thank you.. That is what I feared. And that is why l like the tool that does not require a full installation from scratch. However, it leaves some unpleasant message behind, sadly.

Re: Need expert advice on how to do things properly
I wonder, if Anaconda and Mathematica are Linux or Windows programs. I don't know any of them. If these are Windows programs: Then don't worry about a Linux upgrade in the host, it does not touch the internals of the Windows VMs. If Windows updates will play nice, is another question. If these are ...

Re: Need expert advice on how to do things properly
My new machine will have a CPU with 16 core and I will have 2 TB in SSD, 64 or even 128 GB of RAM if I find the way to shell out some extra $'s, and so i will be able to create a powerful VM which will be fast. you are a fortunate person That was not the purpose of the question. Maybe having the sa...

Need expert advice on how to do things properly (Solved without solution)
Hello everyone. SITUATION: For the last 3 years or so I have been using Linux Mint via dual booting together with Windows. In a few months I will be purchasing a new laptop and I do want Linux Mint to be my only operating system. Windows will be installed on a Virtual Machine and it will be a full l...

Re: Is it normal that FIrefox takes .. forever to upgrade ?
I am giving up.. Screw 20.3 I got up at 6:30am to work on the upgrade It is 9am and I could not even accomplish that for the downloading is incredibly slow. I will keep 20.2... Very disappointed. It is the first time Linux Mint really has left me down. Worst than Windows this time... I changed mirro...

Is it normal that FIrefox takes .. forever to upgrade ?
I am trying to upgrade from 20.2 to 20.3.. everything seems to go smoothly. But, once the upgrade process got to the Firefox package (going to the 96 version, I believe), it seems to take forever.. been waiting 20 minutes and it is moving incredibly slow.... Is that normal? For a package that is onl...

Re: What is the ideal way to install Mint so that major upgrades are "super easy"?
Thank you for your inputs. That confirms something I suspected all along. Could you allow me to re-phrase my question: Say that I want to re-install Linux Mint 20 or whenever I will need to install Mint 21 in the near future, again in dual booting. What are the sequence of steps I should follow? 1) ...

What is the ideal way to install Mint so that major upgrades are "super easy"?
Background. I have been running Linux Mint for almost 3 years now in dual booting. I think I can say that I have most of it under control. But I am terrified, yes I really mean it, to do a fresh installation for when I did it in going from Mint 17 to Mint 18 I had huge issues and I could not even s...

[SOLVED] How to change back grub to show me OSs with small icons next to them?
After upgrading to LM20, I have had a few, overall quite acceptable issues, most of which I was helped to address. I have only one minor request left in the tank. Up until the upgrade, Grub was showing a nice page with nice fonts and little icons next to Mint and Windows 10. Now it is just the basic...

Re: Should I worry about this error messages?
@ rene The initramfs "issue" is gone as you indicated. So thank you! for that. Everything seems in order, all my programs work, audios and movies play. I will try to clean the rest little by little. If I may take advantage of your expertise, the only other issue I have (and that started re...

Re: Should I worry about this error messages?
Thank you Rene. I installed Linux Mint 18 from scratch and then I upgraded to 19 and, today, to 20. Following your advice I was able to eliminate some of the error messages. However, the Initramfs error is still there. It does not prevent me from using the PC or anything (so far). For the file you m...

[SOLVED] Should I worry about this error messages?
I made the upgrade from 19.3 to 20 and it seems to work. However, when I start it, I get a lot of messages that I'd rather not seeing. Is it something I should worry about. - Logs begin at Thu 2020-07-09 17:54:21 PDT, end at Thu 2020-07-09 17:57:35 PDT. -- Jul 09 17:54:21 mrt-WT73VR-7RM kernel: Init...

Re: What is the best procedure to install a new Linux Mint, like 20.0 in dual booting?
@ arvy. Thank you for your reply. I have just one additional small question. Would following that process also take care of updating grub?
